Alpha 9.5 Patch 4 proved very playable and Alpha 10 contains the same, along with a bunch more fixes and features. The Different Flags mod, Save At Sea and Ship Upgrades are finally included, along with many other things. This will be the last Alpha release before we move to Beta.
See here for a quick overview of features, along with screenshots.

It's still an Alpha though and there will be bugs. If you encounter any, be sure to let us know. And make sure to save often! If you encounter any random problems or crashes, usually reloading your savegame will get you through properly.

Installation and Gameplay Tips:
- INSTALL BUILD 13 FINAL
- If you have Windows Vista, DON'T install the game to Program Files; security measures tend to prevent the modpack from installing correctly
Install to, for example, C:\Games\Pirates of the Caribbean instead
- Check out the controls in buildinfo\Default Key Assignments.txt
- !!!SAVE OFTEN!!!

The game tends not to work if:
- You have an Intel Onboard Graphics Card [workaround with Swiftshader Software Rendering - more info]
- You use ffdshow and don't have the game added to your "exception list"

3. Full Version Installation Instructions
This file is readily compatible with Build 13 Final and has been confirmed to install correctly.
It seems there is an error in the file that prevents RunMe.bat from automatically running.
If this is the case for you, do this manually.

To install, please follow these instructions:
1 - Install Build 13 Final (if you haven't done so already)
2 - Install Alpha 10 Full, following the instructions in the installer and allow it to run RunMe.bat
3 - Check if there still is a RunMe.bat in your main game folder and, if so, run it manually
4 - Install the Build 14 Alpha 10.1 Patch
5 - OPTIONAL: Tweak the controls and the game's settings to your liking in the Options menu
6 - Start a new game, select a storyline and ENJOY! :woot
 
4. Light Version Installation Instructions
This file is to be installed on top of Build 14 Alpha 9.5 Patch 4 or any more recent Build 14 Alpha 10 WIP version.
It seems there is an error in the file that prevents RunMe.bat from automatically running.

I'm thinking we might need to add some "Gameplay Tips" for people to see
so they're not TOTALLY confused when they start Alpha 10.
Please post here the subjects you think will require a tip.
Here's some examples:

- The game now contains a "Profiles" system, which groups savegames together per storyline and profile name.
If you start a new storyline game but already had savegames from a previous time you started that story,
you can create another profile by clicking the "Player" text and typing in another name.

- In Select Storyline, you can choose your player type (Merchant, Corsair, Adventurer, etc.)
This defines which of your skills will increase faster than the others and is indicated with tick marks in F2>Character.

- Hired officers contribute their skills also if they're not in your "active" officer party.
Note that they only contribute the skills that are correct for their type.
In the Passengers interface, you can reassign officers, see their effective skills.
The total effect of player + officers is shown as the player skills in the Passengers interface

- Hiring a doctor with a good defence skill and having medicine onboard will decrease after-battle casualties.
Wounded crew are shown as [healthy crew] / [wounded crew] in F2>Ship.

- You can pick your personal sails in F2>Ship>Sails.

- You can fly other nations' flags through F2>Relations. If it is a false flag, you can be recognized.
The chance for this increases if you are famous and as you get closer to friendly ships that are of an enemy nation.
Flying your Personal flag, the sea relations will be the same as your real relations.

- If you're confused on island names and positions, consult the Archipelago Map in F2>Inventory>Maps.
You can also buy island maps from the item traders, which will give you town and shore positions and names.

My sincerest apologies. It seems I made the stupidest of errors with this file.
Please check the updated installation instructions.
You need to install the Build 14 Alpha 10 Fix afterwards.
You notice the file icon? That's me shooting myself for being so *** stupid. :boom :modding :boom :modding :boom
 
I ran the fix. There was no runme.bat in the POTC file and now there are two program folders in the POTC folder. The second one is labeled "program new". The game loads but my question is is the fix in and how does the program know which one to use?
