<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" /> Hi to all yee pirates here! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />
Have a rum on me!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
I played POTC when it came out, and recently decided to give it a try again.
I did search and found this site a few days ago.
I have tried to do some mods in the past and know some PSP and 3DSMAX.
I am new here and would like to ask a couple questions, to help get an understanding of what I may be able to try to mod or help with here. Is there alist that tells what the build changes, before I try it and do my mods need some special code or tool to work with the build?
Also one of the things that I always wanted in the original game was a larger variety of cannons to choose from ans being able to add more cannons to some ships and all the cannons have no wheels can that be changed to ones that have wheels on the carriages?
Is there a mod or a way to add extra cannon sizes to choose from?
I noticed that there are some of you adding extra cannons to ships, can some one tell me how to do this or is there a tool or tutorial of some sorts?
Thank you in advance for any and all help! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />
First google potc wiki. there are many tutorials <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> or look at pinned tread in modding
Pinned: POTC Modding Wiki <--- Tutorials Here
to add cannon = With inez dias TOOL you can add cannonlocators to hullmodel. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
so you can get fire smoke and cannonball. on ship skin you can make empty cannonports.
so that they go with cannonlocator =First make cannonports on ship skin texture. you need tx coverter
and photo editor like paitshop pro, gimp etc that reads tga files.when you have cannonports
on ship use TOOL to add cannonlocator port and starboard =cannonl ,cannonr locators. start game
test fire ships cannons to see if cannonport and locator are in same place. you will see
that cannonsmoke make this testing little difficult.if you like to add 3d cannon, i do not know nothing about that, only it is not easy. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> ++read posts in potc modding .

i'm not 100% on this but i've been toying with idea of editing a ship like a scene to add extra canon to the model. i know they'd still need fire locators but it could be a possible way to do it.

most ship types need less canons to be more realistc from what i've seen

Thank you both for your replies, and the information.

I would still like to know if there is a list or guide that tells what the feature of the Build are or what it changes before I give it a try.

Sorry if I didnot explain right about the cannons. I meant that there are I think 7 Cannon types that you can buy for ships in the original game. 2-12pdrs, 2-18pdrs, 2-24pdrs, and 1 type of 32pdr. Is there a way to make a mod or is there one already to have more of a variety to choose from like 3pdrs, 4pdrs, 6pdrs, 9pdrs, 12pdrs, 16pdrs, 18pdrs, 24pdrs, 32pdrs, etc. etc. maybe even carronades? so you would have about 20 or so different types to choose from.

Yes Captain Spec. I agree that many of the Ships in the game have too many Cannons to be realistic.

Thank you to all for helping.

There is a mod already by KnowNothingBozo: It consists of 6 carronades & 8 long guns.

thanks for help!

Are we talking about the same thing? It has been included in the modpack since ... long. Pieters Pirate page is the place. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

About a feature list in our mods:
<a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net/index.php?showtopic=2378" target="_blank">Features added in Build 11</a>
A lot had been added since, but unfortunately, there is no readme on the internet about it. If you download Build 12, there <i>will</i> be a readme in the buildinfo subfolder. Basically, there is no good reason whatsoever to not get Build 12. It greatly improves the game in every way and doesn't add any truly annoying bugs. It does fix a lot of bugs in the game and adds an almost ridiculous amount of new features. Whatever you do, be sure to GET IT! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

On the other hand, we also have the Post Build 12 mods. Included in this modpack are a very big lot of mods released after Build 12 was released. It adds yet another ridiculous amount of great new features, but, unlike with Build 12, there are quite a bunch of strange bugs left. Luckily, the Post Build 12 mods remain a Work In Process, so we keep improving it. A new update will probably released somewhere this weekend, if I manage. A feature list of the mods in the Post Build 12 mods can be found <a href="http://pieter.piratesahoy.org/features.htm" target="_blank">here</a>.

If you want to make mods for the game, please base them on the Post Build 12 mods. Once you have any mod done, put it on the <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net/index.php?showtopic=978" target="_blank">Public FTP</a> or send it to me at <a href="mailto:pieter_boelen@planet.nl">pieter_boelen@planet.nl</a>. I will then add it into the next modpack update, so everybody can enjoy your mod in addition to all other great mods that have been made. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

To mod for the Build, you don't need any special software. You will need to be able to edit .c file, but you can do that even with the standard Windows Notepad. That's what I use and it works fine. If you want to edit models or textures, however, you will need some additional programs:

<b><a href="http://legend.seaward.ru/tools/ConvertorTX.rar" target="_blank">TX Converter</a></b>
Converts between PotC's .tga.tx files and readable and editable .tga files.

<b><a href="http://legend.seaward.ru/tools/ModelView.rar" target="_blank">GM Viewer</a></b>
Can display PotC's .gm 3D models.

<b><a href="http://home.arcor.de/swigard/Downloads/TOOL/" target="_blank">Inez Dias' Tool</a></b>
Very useful program for editing PotC 3D models and converting them to other fileformats. (Info <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net/index.php?showtopic=3310" target="_blank">here</a>)

<b><a href="http://www.chmaas.handshake.de/delphi/freeware/xvi32/xvi32.htm#download" target="_blank">HEX Editor</a></b>
Can change the texture's filename a model is using, so you can make a copy of a model using a different texture. This is useful for changing models/textures, but without overwriting the old files.

<!--sizeo:3--><span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:100%"><!--/sizeo--><i><b>Other useful programs:</b></i><!--sizec--></span><!--/sizec-->
<b><a href="http://pieter.piratesahoy.org/downloads/ftp_commander.zip" target="_blank">FTP Commander</a></b>
A program that allows you to access the PiratesAhoy! Public FTP, where you can download other people's mods and upload your own. The FTP is already predefined in this version of the program, so you just need to double-click on it in program's screen.

<b><a href="http://winmerge.sourceforge.net/" target="_blank">WinMerge</a></b>
Program capable of comparing folders with each other. VERY useful when you want to compare two different PROGRAM folders. This program will show you all the differences, enabling you to merge two different PotC versions into one version without overwriting anything.

I hope this helps you. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

What ever happened to directing people to Pre Build 13 and having mods developed on that code base?

I'm sorry, Petros. I am very busy at the moment with schoolwork and don't have as much time for PotC as I would like. At the moment, all I can do is make Post Build 12 updates, but I don't have enough time to also make the Pre Build 13 right. Once my examination period is over though, I will gladly try and work on the Pre Build 13 as well again. Don't worry: It's not out of the picture. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />
Maybe Screwface has time to fix his random quest generator in pre 13. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

The only problem with the random quest generator is something I didn't do right. It'll be fixed with the next Pre Build 13 version. Maybe, since Petros wants it so badly, I will try to make one tomorrow. I'll have a bit of time then, but not much... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Thanks Pieter Boelen for links and help i try to put it to good use. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

Is the build and mod packs seperate things or the same? sorry if this is supid question? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

That's an excellent General Info and Links summary that answers many a FAQ. How about making this sticky or even putting it on the PA main page?

I plead guilty of neglegting that as well (it is SOO more tempting to create something NEW <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> ). But now that New Islands & and Buildingset are sort of complete I'll tackle some old bugs again. Have already started on the missing boarders and the Surrendering questpirates.

One day we'll squash all the bugs <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

(Just kidding <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" /> )

To Captain_Augast: The Post Build 12 modpack is sort-of an add-on to Build 12.1, which is an add-on for stock PotC. Confusing, huh? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

To CCC: I can't make stickies. I am no moderator. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

what is Pre build 13?
i've heard of it, but i dont know a thing about it.
does it have anything that the Post build 12 modpack doesn't?
where is it?

The Pre Build 13 is the first start to the eventual Build 13. Basically it is just the old November 21 release with some additional bugfixes, but it isn't working great yet. It most certainly does NOT contain any features the Post Build 12 modpack doesn't have, because the Pre Build 13 is just a supposedly more stable, but older version. Somewhere on the Build beta forum, there is a thread I made about it.
