Can't start game D:

Sjarko

Landlubber
Hi everyone! You might remember me, probably not, but I decided to play this lovely mod again. Anyway, I can start the game normally, but when I choose a character, it starts loading, and then crashes. Anyone know how to get rid of this? Please help <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Was that before or after installing any mods? What mods and in which order, if you did install them.

Well, it does it with and without the build 13.3, and that's all I have. Btw, thanks for the fast reply!

Did the game work on that computer before? What graphics card do you have?

This computer has never had it on him beofre, and I don't know what graphics card. It is a laptop, so it's ingtegrated, if that helps.

Please tell me it's no integrated Intel. That virtually never works. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />
Check in your Control Panel what you have.

Uuuh... Yeah, command center? Sorry, don't have much experience with this :X

Maybe try in dutch, might help me <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Ok, found it, it is intel, and since it's a laptop most likely integrated. I'll have to use another PC I geuss!

I'm afraid so, yes. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Alright, finally got it to work, but noticed I was missing something. So I got Alpha 14.6 and installed it, had one problem, no preset.bat. No big deal, I think, though now I get a runtime error after starting game. Any way to fix this? Thanks in advance <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Fix? FIX? Wait a couple more days and install Alpha 9. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" />
It's done and seems fairly stable; uploading is just proving troublesome. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

ho! hold on there mate! How did you fix this? I have the same problem with integrated intel on a laptop. I can run Age of Pirates just fine, but PoTC crashes as you described.

I think he manage to install it to a differente PC, ButterCutter.

For the preset.bat file it's require for the game to run smoothly for alpha 6. But how come is it missing in the package, it's shouldn't. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Cheers, <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I thought preset.bat was for Alpha 7. Ah... that was <i>sooo</i> long ago; just don't remember anymore. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

I got POTC to work on an intel GM965 integrated card. I had to use swiftshader:
<a href="http://www.transgaming.com/products/swiftshader/" target="_blank">http://www.transgaming.com/products/swiftshader/</a>
Super easy - just throw two .dll files (and an .ini file if you want to change defaults) into the game directory.

It still has some quirks: I initially got it to run on 1024x768x16 resolution, low textures. Then if you try to change to 32 bit color or different resolution or high textures it may crush. Then go back to the original setting and it still crash - always at the same point, giving a message about cannot reading some memory address. Fiddle with it a bit and return TO THE EXACT SAME SETTING and it works fine again. Go figure.

Figuring this has something to do with memory handeling, in the swiftshader ini file I lowered the vid memory to 256 MB and now I play on 1024x768x32 with high textures. Only tried the stock game and build 13 so far and had no more crashes (about 30 minutes playtime). I only feel a slowdown when lots of lightnings are flashing, but the frame rate is still good enough to play (duo core2 2.0 GHz laptop). The only nuisance is the swiftshader logo that is stuck in the lower left of the screen where the action menu is... it is half transparent, so it is tolerable.

On to installing build 14.9...

That sounds REALLY interesting! Could we include those DLL files in the Build mod download? Or as an additional fix-download for people with an Intel GFX card?

You do not want these dll in the game directory unless you want to use software rendering. I am still messing around with this (installing 14.9 as I type). If some of the more technical guys can have a look at this and better understand the setup options, you could add this to the FAQ with a recommendation.

It'd be nice to have those DLL files available as an additional download for those people with Intel cards. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Edit: Okay, got it downloaded. Unfortunately makes the game extremely slow. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />
