Editing engine.ini should work, unless you have the game installed in Program Files, or the file is marked as read only. Are you just running the stock game? What operating system are you running? Video card?

i tried 1920 by 1080 on my AOP2 and i put it back to 1024 by 768, all it did was expand the picture and cut off the top on everything.
im running windows 7 64 bit, i3 with 4 g of memory and a gtx 750 ti with 2 g on the card, on a 39 inch vizio at 120 hz, standard picture is 1080 i all the time.
i dont mind the black bars on the side, picture still looks good.

The game engine does indeed cut off the top/bottom when you use widescreen.
Doesn't bother me on PotC though, but perhaps AoP is worse there. :shrug
