I submitted my final version of Centurion to POTBS this morning! For some reason I can't seem to find the FTP info. Could someone send it to me so I can upload the model?

Ok it's uploaded, what's next? :-D

It's under /KrisWood/KrisWood-Centurion-Final

Thanks for uploading it! Now you'll just have to wait for some kind soul to take on the conversion process.

You might want to post some images to tempt our modellers... ;)

Hi

The kind soul will need the FBX plugin for Maya to open the file though.

Pictures would be nice :onya plus doesn't it have to be converted to maya 5 format? is that what the FBX plugin does?

Hi

Krisswood.jpg

No need for the plugin.......imported with 3DS.......exported as OBJ......took a few hours but all the parts are realigned, (needs checking though), as they were all scattered when I got it into 3DS.
I'll upload to FTP in a mo as a Maya 5 MB file then some kind soal has the job of finishing it off :whipa

By the way we need the textures to go with it.

I've some concerns with obj export. object names, materials, maybe hierarchy might get lost. The fbx plugin is free, I believe.

Hi

All the part names are in tact but they all have the same meterial..........our models use Lambert so it'd need changing anyway, so that's not a problem.

Can't find the FBX plugin to download.

Here are the Maya 6 plugins for fbx, I don't know if they'll work with 5, I seem to remember them working but it's been years since I tried:

Edit: Ok the maya 5 plugin is on that page too: http://images.autodesk.com/adsk/files/gmk_fbxplugins602_maya50_windows.zip

Hi

The plugin works......but same as 3DS .........all the parts are scattered. Only difference is the uv map isn't lost by exporting as obj..
Ill re-upload it later today.

Cheers

UPLOADED NOW :doff

No problem.........................It gives someone a head start to get it finished.

As for renders of the ship to build interest, here are the most recent ones:

(Note: The artwork on the tafferel has been removed since that second render, to simplify the custom texture space and to make colorization easier)

Just downloaded the file, what a beautiful ship! And an accurate one too, I just picked up my copy of the golden ocean http://thierrygagnon.com/IMG/jpg/golden-ocean.jpg by patrick O'brian, and compared the centurion on the screen to the centurion on the cover, and every detail I looked for matched! right down to the mouldings and the fighting tops and the bitts around the foremast :onya However, textures will be neccesassary to take her any farther, the objects would certainly need to be divided differently to use the textures common in the build mod. about the artwork on the taffrail, could you send us the verision with it still in place? there are no colorization problems to worry about here. ;)

Regarding accuracy of your illustration, the artist probably worked from the same sources I did:

Specifically this one:
http://collections.rmg.co.uk/collections/objects/66403.html

I also worked from these:
http://collections.rmg.co.uk/collections/objects/66188.html
http://collections.rmg.co.uk/collections/objects/68158.html

http://collections.rmg.co.uk/collections/objects/139609.html
http://collections.rmg.co.uk/collections/objects/385618.html

and I have this one though it's not available on the web site:
http://collections.rmg.co.uk/collections/objects/81480.html

I ran out of time for stern decor or I'd use the drawing of the stern above. I can give you the deco texture that still has the tafferel images but someone would have to remap it.
