Hey there everybody,

I won't drag this out if it's already posted somewhere but I was looking for a helpful tutorial on character modeling (I know how to use max) or tweaking should I say, using TOOL. Now either the search is a useless function or nobody has had this up.

I just tried to mix two characters and it just goes to black when I try to load him in game, what needs to change to accommodate this model? Cause if I can't get it to work there's no sense it taking it a step further and retexturing him. Basically:

I put the head from Soldier_Eng3 on Pirat11's body. The animation still runs fine but I am not sure which files to send with it into game (Soldier 3's or pirat11's!?) if that might be what is causing the problem. Or which head file to use to begin with since the main gm has a head in addition to the head gm file. I'm a tad confused to say the least... Any help is appreciated.
 
I don't really know about this. Everybody who used to modify character MODELS (models; not textures) has not posted on the forum for quite a while. You could try to PM Sir Christopher Mings. He might know. The best person to ask would be High Sea Lass, but I haven't seen her around for even longer. Still you can try sending a PM.
 
Ok I worked it out, sometimes thats the best way, trial and error. I got it into the game alright, its a little strange cause I'm still not sure why there is two heads per model... Anyway I'll tamper with that next, in the meanwhile does anyone at least know why when I bring models back into TOOL from 3ds max its all broken? The mesh that is... Just checking, I might figure it out but then I might not so if anyone has anything to say on the matter, that would be great. Cya.
 
Haha, Success! Got him back into TOOL from max altered yet unscathed! Problem solved, not that anyone is on right now but... Way to reinvent the wheel. hehehehehe, Ah the possibilities.

Yeah, I'd like to see screenshot as well. Myself tried to add tricorn to stock Blaze, but it has failed horrendously while TOOL tried to reapply animation data.
 
in case you don't know how to make a screenshot, use F8 or printscreen! they'll end up in your main directory.
 
Yes indeed, I can modify the models and get them back in, however I am no animator so to actually build ENTIRELY new models or add foreign vertices to the mesh would mean I'd have to reanimate. I will add a screenshot soon, I'm working on texturing, but it won't take long. Then I can upload him. He's one of the unsung hero's from pirates of the caribbean, well... kinda.

Nobody has ever been able to make completely new characters. High Sea Lass got the furthest: She made some character head swaps and remodeled these characters, such as Blazie and Piratess.
 
Good guess, there is a really good base character for him, but no I am working on Pintel. Ragetti will come soon they can't be apart, but being quite amused with Pintel throughout the trilogy I couldn't resist. After these two, if I have the time I might try making a combined pack of Barbossa's chief crew members,

Koehler
Twigg
Grapple
Bo'sun
Jacoby
Clubba
Mallot
Maximo
Scarus

Plenty to choose from but the last 4 being more obscure than normal I might not bother with them. As cool as Jones and his crew were, they weren't played up as much as Barbossa's men, remember jacks jail partners going on about them? There wasn't anything like that with Jones just suddenly POOF, there he was. These guys were the best!
 
Jacoby is the little bomberman <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> with his strange hat. Bo'sun is that really big black man with the golden spots on him. En grapple is the guy with the grapple, who almost kills Will (Kill Will <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> ) in the siege on Port Royal.

Yep that about sums them up, the last four are, like I said, obscure. But they went through the trouble of giving them names anyway. If anyone is interested there are small blurbs about the crew under barbossa here:

A quick question, while I'm doing the best with the textures I have, I was wondering since I've seen a few textures floating around from at worlds end, does anyone have some sitting around or at least could get some to me, I'd love to have Pintel's cause the ones for Barbossa's model sure look like they came from it, can't top that quality. Thanks.
 
i think mallot looks pretty cool. at least in his undead form. barbossa is from the stock game. i know that, as i've met him in dungeons quite a few times while playing it.

Barbossa is from the stock game? I know there was pirat10 in the original, but pirat11? He looked a little different to me, sharper and slightly more detailed. Maybe its just me... Oh well, I've started moving forward without it anyway, I'm taking a different approach to the texture.
 
well, i've played the stock game as short ago as last week. i'm sure i saw him. i already knew he was always in the stock game, but i did think it was kinda odd to see him as an enemy. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

note: come to think of it, i didn't meet him in a dungeon. i met him on a boarding deck. foes in dungeons are always skeletons in the stock game. anyway, i saw him about three to five times.
