City of Abandoned Ships Bugs

No, we're not going to try and fix them any time soon. But making an inventory would be good.
We can send that off to Playlogic or seaward.ru once we've got a good list and hopefully they can make a patch.
If not, maybe we could do something about them once Pirates of the Caribbean Build 14 is done.

Would anybody be interested in supervising this effort? I can't; firstly due to my lack of time and commitment to the Build mod,
but also because I don't have CoAS and can't say anything truly sensical about any of the bugs reported. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Yep good idea. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Somebody start posting the list of the bugs, I insist! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

I just checked Playlogic's official forums, there has been a lot of activity there the past couple of days. There is a list of known bugs up, but I am not sure how accurate it is.

Sorry to start such a topic, but I think the game has a huge potential and should be improved ASAP, so I will start with the bugs I have found in the German version so far.

Chars and Quests:
- Peter Blood doesnt get any key in the first mission (open chest to get sword), so this story-line cant be played as the guard will kill you
UPDATE: Key is very small and lying on the table in the main hall... well, little hint where to get the item would have been nice...

- Spanish char (no matter specialization) starts on a ship. You cant interact with nothing, nobody comes, you cant go to worldmap etc. -> story-line cant be played either
- "Find the spy in Port Royal" : This kind of mission description sucks, I have no idea, where or how to find this person.
- Neutral Nation going hostile if you cant fullfil a governer mission... honestly, as said before, I cant find the spy or in the 3rd mission this harbormaster guy in the enemy town, so I will never get my rank with this nation.
- I have completely NO IDEA where or how to find a main quest and there is no obvious hint where to go or to find

General:
- Gunnery skill: even if the skill is low... Im standing with a frigate 50 yards away from a MANOWAR and fire broadside and my gunners hit NOTHING... seriously. You could throw the cannonball onto the deck, so how should they have missed with the guns?????
- Crashes: I noticed, IF I have a crash to desktop, it happens when I leave a building manually. If I go with fast travel everything is fine. Also, sometimes when trying to board a ship -> CTD.. havent found a good reason for this
- Friendly harbor opens fire for NO reason (I leave town, suddenly fort opens fire, i am neutral and havent shot or hit anything before)<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

And these...

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->1. Playing as Peter Blood i cannot remove equipped weapons, although i can replace them buy just click"equip" on another weapon.
2.It seems like the mission log sometimes misses to add info about a mission you get, i've noticed this a couple of times.
3. Playing as Peter Blood the guards in the town sometimes goes invisible, i noticed this when i accidentally somehow managed to get stopped by one for carrying arms, the problem was that there wasn't any guard nearby.
4. Playing as Peter Blood and doing the mission for the moneylender where you need to find this guy that loaned money from him under a false name. You need to go to the shipyard after you've spoken to the innkeeper at the tavern, when you get there and confront the man that loaned money under a false name, you get three dialog choices. I chose the first alternative where you urge him to repay the money, but he just leaves the shipyard and is no where to be found and he has not re payed the money to the moneylender. At this point the only thing you can do is to reload the a saved game and select another alternative. If you don't a save game before you've spoken to him, all you can do is to restart the campaign/character.
5. Playing as Peter Blood and carrying unequipped weapons the guards can still "see" them. They will take them from you which kinda sucks. The only weapon you can carry around is a dagger that you get from one of the slaves in the slave camp when you give him medicine for headache.
6. As mentioned before, it's really hard to hit with cannons if your accuracy skill is low. I opened fire with a frigate and didn't hit a lugger that was close by.
7. Playing as Peter Blood at the slave camp island (the one you start on) some guards can instantly kill you with a heavy swing. This will get very annoying when you are close to completing the escape. There is also some "special" guards (captains i guess) that is really hard to beat. When you later in the game will try to take over a Frigate so that you can escape, you will need to fight a captain. This captain can kill you with one shot from his gun. he can also kill you with 2-4 light strikes. Perhaps a damage reduction on some of the guards/captains would be good?
8. I do not think this is a bug but it's something that i think the devs should look into. Fighting several enemy's is almost impossible, at least at low lvls. The health regeneration some enemy's have is insane. For example i was attacked by 3 bounty hunters as Peter Blood. The fight started and i did my best to kill them, although it was impossible. They regenerated faster than i could do damage to them. This is something i find to be outright game breaking to some extent... Fighting 3 enemy's is hard enough, and fighting them with this ability to get full health in matter of seconds does not make it easier...<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Hi,

some bugs and suspected bugs:

- game does not load from the starting screen(with P Blood I think),

- save icons in the saves list can disappear (not the saves themselves, save date and time remains)
AND they do come back after a while,

- moneylender jewels in "find jewel" missions seem not to spawn sometimes. Suspected bug, maybe I`m not searching well enough,

- after defeating enemy skipper you can`t leave his cabin IF you loot chests there,

- game crashes if there are many ships/squadrons close to eachother. Can`t say yet if it is everytime. The problem is probably triggered after exceeding a min no of ships which I do not know,

- rarely, but it happens, game CTD`s. This seems random, I see no set situations where it always happens.

FAQ from Seaward.ru
Q: the Governor has given the task to find in a city of the enemy spy. I am not cut how to pass this quest.
A: There are some variants: 1) It in the house. Search all houses, including city buildings (including shipyards room and etc.) and the second floors of houses. 2) it on city streets. Interrogate townspeople, learn.

<!--quoteo(post=319417:date=May 13 2009, 01:17 PM:name=Thagarr)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Thagarr @ May 13 2009, 01:17 PM) <a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=319417"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->- I have completely NO IDEA where or how to find a main quest and there is no obvious hint where to go or to find<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
The main quest is connected with beggars (Search in Port Royal <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> )

Not sure if this is really a bug, but the game won't run on Windows 7 Release Client 1. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" />

Are you certain that is a software issue and not a hardware issue?

They're not gonna get away with bugs this time! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p2" border="0" alt="pirate3.gif" /> They got away with their own people but us english speaking people.. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" /> they're not gonna get away with this! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" /> Now report more bugs and then line them up and mail it to 'em! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p2" border="0" alt="pirate3.gif" /> They gonna have to do a patch and get their crap together!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Patience, young lad <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> You dont even have the game yet. Almost none of us do, therefore our right to complain about the game is a bit overrated hehe <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
Bugs are never intended and Seaward.ru is not PlayLogic, they are our friends. If we help them in a good manner, they will listen. If you think positive, positive things can and will come to you <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/trio-pirates.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":trio" border="0" alt="trio-pirates.gif" />

Hi all,

a bug re officers:

- multi-skill officers should be able to be SIMULTANEOUSLY assigned to several roles. This according to a russian ver player(Skeletor).
Also, if you carefully listen to your crewman when starting a new game, this is mentioned clearly.
But in CoAS 1.3 as released by Playlogic, this does not work! Shame, as it is a brilliantly functional gameplay idea, particularly for small ships.

Regards, Oldtimer

I have a problem with the moneylender quests.
I took on a mission for the moneylender, that is to bring in the money he lent to a person.
I found that person but whatever answer I choose, the mission failed.
I had principally only two options, either to let him go or to demand the money, in that case "mission failed" popped up.

In the official playlogic forum some users complained about not beeing able to hire additional officers despite having enough money etc. The confirmation window appeared and then back to the statistics window.

Greetings Ahab

I just capped a ship and returned to sell it. I check my stats, and my character has (-1) next to all attributes and (-5 or -<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="8)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> next to the other stats. Why is this happening?

The reason can be covered in different problems. You can have a ship which does not correspond to your skill of navigation (look in your navigation, and you see what level of navigation you must have for some level of ships) , you also can have overweight of things or bad health.

It's the ship. When I switch to a different one, it goes away. However, I don't understand why my personal physical skills would suffer when I am in command of ANY ship. Physical strength and endurance have NOTHING to do with the ship you are on (IRL).

Hey there, I had the same problem and 'sordid' pointed out that this has to do with being 'too low level' to take command of high class ships. The reason why the negative modifiers go away when you take command of another ship is probably due to the fact that it is a lower class ship than the one you captured.
The way you can sort this out is buying a tartane if you dont have any other ship available apart from the one you captured and then the modifiers will be gone, this way you sell the ship yo just captured for the normal price.
