Great news !

They have decided the COAS will have the very successful and much appreciated Engine.exe - "<i>crash to desktop at random</i>" feature implemented, and the release is postponed to <a href="http://www.play.com/Games/PC/4-/6781949/-/Product.html?searchstring=abandoned&searchsource=0" target="_blank">March 6th 2009</a>.
Date according to Play.com

Long time no see, Ledhed! Since I've not been available to play VCO in so long, and I've not seen you or Navy about. I've been biding my time here, once again modding AoP and looking forward to the release of this here fine looking new game.

I have been looely following the COAS saga. Mostly because I though it was just an addon. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but here goes. Is COAS an addon to AOP or is it a standalone program? Meaning will I need AOP to play COAS?

Greg.

Standalone game. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

I just took a look at the new website for COAS, looks nice, I didn't know you could pick between three characters. I found it amusing though that in the pictures of the ships, under the crew icon, it had a picture of that female character from AOP, I forgot her name.... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

It made me wonder how much of AOP could be exported over into COAS. It would be pretty neat to import the two characters from that game into the new one.

Her name's Beatrice Devlin. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Officerpuppy, I dont see why not. It must be based on AoP. Afterall, it´s a follow-up on the Corsairs(AoP) series - and Seaward.ru made the SlIB series as well?

CoAS uses an updated version (Storm 2.<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="8)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> of the AoP engine (Storm 2.5), which is itself an updated version of the PotC one (Storm 2.0).
All model files in those three games are compatible to at least some extent. We actually have some CoAS content in the Build 14 Alpha, I think.
The main problem is having access to the PROGRAM folder.

AoP2/CoAS is an updated storm engine. Version in use for Russian version of the game is Storm 2.8.

VERY impressive stuff with some of the updates its gotten. VERY pretty graphics, though I must admit that the Corsair 4 images we've been seeing makes these games look old and dried up.

Some Screens: <a href="http://www.4players.de/4players.php/screenshot_list/PC-CDROM/15473/Screenshots/30868/0/Age_of_Pirates_2_City_of_Abandoned_Ships.html" target="_blank">CoAS</a>

A long waiting end next week....I hope.

AoP 2: CoAS is an UPDATED version of the Storm 2.8 engine? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

Wtf? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> I thought I read from somewhere that it uses Storm engine 3.0? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

...they downgraded the engine for us english speakin' folks? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

Something's fishy here. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Wtf? I thought I read from somewhere that it uses Storm engine 3.0?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

No, no, guys. Just Storm 2.8 which is update of Storm 2.5 engine. The Storm 3.0 has different game mechanics and... it is fundamentally different. This engine was designed for Hack'n'Slash games with sea battles on a background of gameplay; specially for games like <a href="http://www.ag.ru/games/age_of_pirates_captain_blood" target="_blank">'Captain Blood'</a>. Maybe only for Captain Blood <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" />
