Corrupted Saved Games

Hi, firstly would just like to say what a great game this is. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

I thought I was one of the lucky ones who hadn't experienced any problems,
but then I found after hours of gameplay it crashed and all of my saved games would ctd if I tried to load them.
I made a point of saving regulary having read about crashes and bugs, but it was all for nothing.

Back to the start (which isn't such a bad thing I suppose)

Does anyone know if this is a common problem or if my saved games are salvagable? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

I've had problems with corrupted saved games, generally if the game crashed while it was trying to save; the saved game would then be corrupted. Once it failed to load that saved game at all; other times it seemed to load correctly but weird things started happening later during the game. So these days, I routinely save just before boarding ship after finishing business in port, and keeping the saved games from the last two ports. I also save from the world map just before entering a battle.

But I've never had the game suddenly decide that all my saved games are corrupt. Not even when I made the mistake of continuing a saved profile created by version 1.41 after I'd installed the version 1.50 patch - there was occasional weirdness later in the game, but it didn't reject the saved games entirely.

Did you ever succeed in loading any of those saved games before the crash? If so, they may be intact and it's the game which is broken. Copy the whole saved game folder to somewhere else, then uninstall and reinstall the game, copy the saved games back, and see if they'll then load. If that fails then it is indeed back to the beginning...
