Crashing on World map

Hi please help I've tried modded and un modded vertions and they both do the same I can travel from Bermuda to say nevis ok, and fight on land and world map local to them all day with no problems. The problem comes if I try to sail west or south from nevis on the world map will go for 1-2 mins then crash Engine.exe I only ever crash on the world map never in battle or on land.

I'm running windows 7 x86
I've tried the compatibly also turning all setting to low
My specs are
AMD Phenom 8750 Triple core 2.40GHz
5 GB Ram
Nvida Geforce gt220

I had that problem for awhile, and it just went away after a week or so of playing. The entire cycle happens whenever I install a new version of Cmod or GoF. I you haven't already, I'd just give it another few days and see what happens.

ok I've tried reinstalling as well so just keep playing it and loading when I crash or just avoid crashing?

What happened with me was that I just saved frequently and restarted the game after a crash. I have absolutely no idea why or how, but eventually the crashing completely stopped.
