Dialogue and Quest

I think all of these must be calibrate......

A part of fantasy can bring more possibility for the futur story but I think it's must not be the main part....Dont forget that we are not limited to ONE big quest....Having just one main quest give to the game a short life because after playing the quest, the player will turn to another game.....We can build many quest line and/or a dynamic society......

I prefer the dynamical society with many small quest because this way allow the player to use is own mind and choose is comportement and the PNJ will adapt themself in fonction....These way allow you to choose to acte like a hero or like a psychotic pirate.....With the avantage or inconvenient who came with both...We can give to the player every possibility to act like a pirate but include the consequence that came with is choices, the same for those who play like a hero........It's not easy to build,it take time to build but I can do that.......
//********************
Some blood or the sailors who are propelled into the air by the explosion of a bomb, I think it is indispensable .... But I think the dismemberment is not essential.....The option of regulating the amount of violence is a good idea......

blood and guts everywhere is insanely disgusting and would certainly take away a lot of value to the game itself. Nudity should not be allowed at all and prostitution (as in AOP2) should not really be a feature because, well........... THERE'S NO POINT AT ALL!

We talk about Pirates or Mickey Mouse ????

That is good thinking Acknuth. We need to have something for everybody. How to get the disney movies in there will be difficult.

About the brothels I don't know maybe an idea that they give an health boost or accuracy or whatever just that it makes your stats improve for a while.

About dismembering did you guys played Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway. If not try look up a movie where they use grenades. It's not disgusting but looks good actually they lose body parts you can see them laying around but you wouldn't get the feeling of wanting to throw up cause it's not really that disgusting. No dismembering would be crazy also getting a cannonball to the head should be instantly fatal (off course)

i think this historical thingy is going out of hand, do you want to make a porn game? showing different positions? and how a real navy man fuck a woman. because historically they were there too? there is no need to add it, but mentioning they existed is another thing.

adding suggestive talking, clothing would be enough (I think) people have enough imagination. its the same for dismemberment, do you like to make a disgusting game? even as a option i assure you, it attract a lot of sick people, and it will ruin the game reputation. (not people who actually like to play a real game, people who like to see A LOT OF BLOOD.)

just remember history is full of useless things that dose not need to be mentioned.
i am afraid if this goes on, the next thing would be a research on the number of prostitute on the street for every town.
( a little aggressive but its how i feel.)

edit: i don't like ERSB rating of game goes sky rocket like 40- 45(because of chance of heart attack.) (i always exaggerate, you know that by now :p)

Hi there !

@Omega:I agree with you that we can build a very interressant game without going in the extreme, for that we need many goods story for Gentleman AND for Evil Pirate....A good commerce system and strategic battle (on sea and on solid ground)...All of these are indispensable

We must have a flexible reputation system who can allow to corrupt officials...I then called the minister of my area asked him for advice...;)

A part of blood and erotism is welcome but we not have to exagerate......For myself I have less problem to make a game with little too gore and violance than a game little too soft.........But we can calibrate to please every one.....I still think an option of regulating the amount of violence is the better way to please every one......The players will be free to choose....Also I always agree to let the player choose what is good for him....

In 2012 (even if the futur game will surely not be release before 2013 or 2014)....If we want to give adrenaline to player, they must be in an eyeful because official editor are not shy to give them......Official editors are just to cheap to give good and long story and the choice to be gentle or evil......I'am personally bored to have to follow a strict quest line.It is more important if we think pirates where free to acte like they wanted......

Dont forget, google translator is my best friend here,so if I say something that make nonsense that not me it's him !:wp

Violence and nudity do not ruin the game at all. It seems people rather want the realism instead of being spared. Have you forgotten Assassin's Creed and Game of Thrones? Both very violent, and both implemented with brothels. In Assassin's Creed the brothels are used for your own advantage, as it can in this game. Buy your crew a tour to the brothel, and the moral will increase. This would be a way cooler feature than just paying them extra cash, like in POTC.

Game of Thrones? I don't think I have to explain the details of the prostitution and brothels there. But they are both very good examples that the story and gameplay are both more important than graphics and spareness. Besides, nudity in games? It doesn't look that good, never really did. As long as everything makes sense and are connected, it doesn't matter if it's a bit violent or naked.

Alfred Hitchcock used a very famous aphorism: "There's two people having breakfast and there's a bomb under the table. If it explodes, that's a surprise. But if it doesn't..." - If brothels, nudity and violence make sense, then why not?

I suppose this can all easily be dealt with by a trigger? As for nudity, I don't see the point... But a general "adult" theme, like corruptions, brothels, etc, is now pretty mainstream...

Same thing with fantasy: I would appreciate some fantasy elements, here and there. Why not simply have a flag on quests, places and NPC, and the ability to turn them off? Quests, characters, convesations would disappear. A vanilla version of a place would be loaded. It seems easy to implement?

Well I think it is not very hard to deal with. :

-Just first make the basic realism game. With in the options menu enable/disable for bloodlimbs getting off etc. etc.
-then release an DLC with the fantasy pack for the people who like it, and the people who don't like it can just say: "hey iam not goin to install that" :dance

I totally agree with your first point! :onya

Once the basic realistic game is up and running it should be possible for everyone to coexist. The fantasy stuff could be added as side quests so that if one does not want to go there one can just walk past the trigger point. There is a quest in POTC with Davey Jones and the Kraken. One does not have to do it if one chooses not to.
There is no good reason to make some people feel left out.

Hello everyone. I'm new here but the idea of a good Sea Dogs sequel just keeps my mind spinning..

First of all I have nothing against fantasy, Lord of the rings as mentioned is a good example. But to be honest I never got a hold of the Pirates of the carribean movies, fell asleep during one of the sequels, don't even remember the storyline of the first on. That's why I was utterly demoralized when I played the game. Even the music was from Sea Dogs, but than you had skeletons and stars emerging from killed enemys, naw! And whats next PotC 5? It should be optional but I don't think its what should be top priority.

Too much blood on the other hand could be disturbing too, I mean most games handle it with various death animations but sooner or later they will get repetitive too, so just a nice stab between the ribs a bit of ragdoll falling and a bit blood..

Anyway the more customizable it gets the better. Make sliders for just about everything from 0%-100% fanatsy/ blood/gore/realism/ what not saves modding/ ".ini thouroughly searching"-time afterwards. In other words more accessible for wider audiences.

I don't know but before starting any serious quest-lines I can imagine there are a lot of items, upragdes, interface elements that need text/ description maybe thats where it should start off. For example how funny/serious should they be?

One last thing: you don't need too see any nipples and stuff but running a brothel or just visiting it is probably where the comedy best kicks in - the gouverneurs daughter will not be ammused of course! But seriously it should be part of the world and of the economy as well (oldest business in the world baby!), I don't remember anybody complaing about it for Tropico2 or anybody complaining about a certain side quest involving a Slave in a certain game.

I'm not native english but think I could handle it.. so for stuff like that count me in just seeing what you archieved with New Horizons makes me wanna be part of such upcoming project no matter how small my part would be.

Good night and keep brainstorming - it won't hurt

It would not only frustrate people, it would also mean no peg legs and that's just wrong in a realistic naval game. So bring on the dismembered body parts flying around the deck. Peg legs for everyone!

Peg legs were uncommon, unless you were a cook. And some of them used a crutch instead.
