Guide DWIC Mission (Dutch Gambit)

Ben Coats

Freebooter
Pt. 1
talk to your brother in prison on Martinique, he tells you of an English Privateer, you can go look for him in Barbados or Antigua....if you dont want to do either of those, just go to Willemstad, Curacao to the DWIC (Dutch West India Company), there they will offer you a mission, to escort a ship to Philipsburg, St. Martian, go to the harbor master and tell the guy you're ready to set sail. once there you run into two pirate brigs ships keep your escort near the fort as possible, while the fort guns take out most of the pirate ships crews to where you can board, after you've taken both ships go into town, where your escorted party will pay you and send a letter to the DWIC man.

Pt. 2
after escorting From Curacao to St. Martian, return to Curacao and get another mission.
you will need: Spanish Flag perk.
In Curacao go to the DWIC and talk to the leader again, he gives you an important letter +5,000$ gold chest to give the Banker of Santiago, sail to Santiago. (Remember to CHANGE YOUR FLAG To Spain before entering port) you wont need your boarders for this, also STORE YOUR Weapons/Money in you cabin except for a small rapier (you have all of it taken from you in a few min.)
go to the Bank and talk to the banker, walk outside and meet a guy, you're knocked out and taken to a house. talk to the guy in the room, he leaves, get the Harpoon and meds from the chest. kill the guy coming in and take his stuff. run down the stairs and kill the other guy, and take his stuff and your captured equiptment is in the chest. go to the tavern and stay the night then back to the banker and talk to him, he tells you what to do, then sail back to Curacao.

Pt. 3
After returning to Curacao you talk to your boss, he tells you what to do. you have 7 days to do nothing (actually more like 20 days)
A. leave port and sail around.
B. stay in port gather supplies (meds/food, trinkets/ammo) and do jungle fighting to build up your skills, spending your nights in the tavern.
your fighting skills need to be about 25%.
after a while return to your boss @ the DWIC in Curacao he will tell you that you need to kill a capt and steal his ship and bring it back, he gives you two men to help with the job. (after accepting), as soon as you walk out of the building Longway appears, talk to him and go to the ship. Sail to Cartagena and land on the beach down from the city, run thru the jungle (MAKE SURE YOU DO THIS PART @ NIGHT).
get in the city and go to a unlocked house (SAVE HERE) and fast forward to morning. go to the tavern and talk to the bartender he tells you the capt is upstairs waiting for you, go up talk and then fight/kill him. leave town and go back to your ship.

Pt. 4
when you get back to your ship from Cartagena, sail toward Trinidad and the ship you're to take is the Mirage (AKA) "Flying Dutchman" it is in a cove between Cumana and Trinidad. (CHANGE TO YOUR PIRATE FLAG) sail up to him and blast away with canister fire to get rid of his crew, then board and take the ship. (CHANGE YOUR FLAG BACK TO FRENCH) and then sail back to Curacao.

Pt. 5
Curacao DWIC gives you another mission.
1. go to St. John (Antigua) land @ a harbor not port, @ night, go thru the jungle to city gates, then to the drug store house and talk to the man there.
2. go to the little shack near the port by the tavern and talk to the other guy.
3. sail to Dominica and engage, board and kill Fleetwood
4. sail back to Curacao and get your reward.

Pt. 6
1. go to the DWIC officer and advise him of your progress, next day go to the Gov. mansion and get rewarded.
2. go to Martinique and get supplies/crew if needed or just sail around for a week.
3. go to the DWIC officer and get your next mission.
4. go talk to Abigail then to her father.
5. talk to the Portugese man. (i could not find him when i got back, wasn't in town or house)

Pt. 7
Cordinates for sailing to a mystery island, you have to use your Chronometer and Bassoule to help you locate the place on the world map, otherwise you'll just sail around, once you reach the spot, go to open sea, and you should be able to beach @ the island. after you get what you came for sail back to Curacao and talk to Soloman, Abigail and your boss. (didnt do the portuguese man part YET)

Pt. 8
after you talk to Soloman, Abigail and Lucas (DWIC boss) you can either hang around in town (i stayed 15 days and nothing happened so i sailed to Martinique and back, soon as i arrived in port, i had to see Lucas, who told me there was a bounty bout to be placed on my head by the Brits, i was to go to Antigua and kill a traitor (the drug store owner)
@ Antigua
1. you can sail into port
2. you can land @ a beach

once in town/jungle go to the dungeon/cave and come to the wine cellar, where you encounter a man, who you talk to, then he draws his sword, you kill your target and his assistant, after that you loot the corpses getting the Drugstore keys, and log book, loot the chests, then go up to the 2nd room and talk to the Alchemist who tells you about healing and stuff like that, and gives you the alchemist box. leave and then wait bout an hour and come back to him where he will also gives you latin words to know (written down in your log book)

Return to Curacao and talk to Lucas to finish the quest. you can do it one of two ways:
1. give the ledger to Lucas and get the ship and a rifle
2. keep the ledger and get only the ship.

I'm not sure if keeping the ledger in the long run helps or not, seems you need a cypher to read it (where ever that might be?)

that ends The Dutch Gambit Quest. (This is The BEST way i know how to play it and did)

Isn't it the alchemist in -yours now- drugstore? Dam, I also finished the Dutch Gambit, by giving the ledger... so I am not sure. Didn't think of that, until now.

for part 7 the portuguese man was in the house for me (in the room upstairs). It is also far better to sell the skull to him (you get 500000 pesos) as Salomon doesn't seem to care too much about it and from the dialogs it seems that Salomon would sell the skull to Lucas who would then sell it to the portuguese man anyway. If you give the skull to Salomon you only gain a little bit of reputation

i also don't think keeping the ledger will help you. I found the thing to decipher it in the dungeon (you can actually loot the sand in the dead ends in the dungeon) but you basically just find out that Lucas is an assehole which doesn't really change anything as he sails to Holland after the last mission

Important. When you first time talking with Longway, be polite (choose the third option in the dialog). In future this will allow you to hire Longway as an quest officer (like Tichingiku).

You can find the decyper paper in dungeon, out of the wine cellar at tunnels. but i dont know keeping it effects the game. im still playing.

Mates, I'm on the last part and I cannot find the keys to the drugstore anywhere; the corpses do not have it, and its nowhere else to be found. All I got are bunch of logs and letters and I don't know what to do next. I even found the cypher but it doesn't really help much. SOS!

From the steam forums:

"The keys are there. In a chest near a table if I remember correctly. But the only way to get into the drugstore is through that cave."

also "In Dutch Gambit for the Dutch, the key is on Murdock's body. Just wait for other bodies to disappear, in case they are in the same place and you cannot select Murdock's body for search."

Hope that helps! One of the many reasons I stopped playing that game. Hate the quests.

Thanks for the reply man. I started the quest with the English privateer, and unfortunately I cannot find the keys anywhere really. Searched the bodies as well as every possible spot inside the cave, but to no avail. Also there isn't any chest inside the cellar, so it seems like my game could be broken.

You have to enter the drugstore through the dungeon / cellar and search all chests in the drugstore. If the key isn´t there, then there is something wrong / broken in your quest. Good luck!

Some remarks about this quest (my version is vanilla 1.30 ENG with The Caleuche DLC, I don't have the latest DLC's The Final Lesson and Flying the Jolly Roger):
At Pt.3
Store your ship/ships in the Port Office (preferably not on Curacao) before starting this part. The reason is that when you return to Curacao at the beginning of Pt.6 you will learn that English fleet had attacked the colony and your ship has burned down as it was commissioned to fight them off (they are giving you the Meifeng as compensation). I have lost a very good upgraded 4th rate ship of the line that way and had to revert from save. In Russian version of walkthrough they are also mentioning that all the ships they had stored in Curacao were replaced with Longboats (Tartana), but this didn't happened to me. I had two Man-of-wars (2nd rate's) stored and as I am at the end of Pt.7 I can access them and take them back. The funny thing is that at some point after Pt.3 you can't store ships in Port Office - they say there is "No deck space left" at the moment, even though it is completely empty (even other cities). I hope this will get unlocked when I finish this whole quest because I can't go to Spanish colonies with my Man-of-wars that I stolen from their gold fleet.
Update
Yes, after I completed the whole quest Port Office started to work properly again.

At. Pt.3
Lucas asks you to go and leave your ship at Port Office. After you do that ("store" your "fake" ship which will later be erased anyway) you go back and talk with him again and then after you leave the DWIC office you will find Longway running towards you in the city.
- in Russian walkthrough they made a remark that sometimes all citizen space in the port may be occupied and Longway can't be spawned. The workaround is to use your action command and fast forward to the night time before exiting the DWIC office.

At. Pt.7
On the island I have found 3x Manga Rosa plant (1 at first shore, 1 in center jungle, 1 at entrance to the cave), this may come in handy later on.
Rewards:
0. You get to keep your 100 gold nuggets in every option.
1. Give only the money to Salomon (you will receive amulet "Seafarer's earring" and your reputation will get lower), sell the scull to Joachim Merryman-Portuguese (you will receive 0,5 mil), Lucas at DWIC will give you another 50,000 and amulet "Pilgrim".
2. Give the money and the scull to Salomon (you will receive amulet "Holly water" and your reputation will get a bit higher), Lucas at DWIC will give you another 50,000 and amulet "Myrmidon"- this item can be crafted and I had instruction for it for a longer time.
3. Keep the scull for yourself. It gives "-20" point luck proficiency and Russians in their walkthrough are saying it is useless artifact (doesn't resurrect the dead officers as the scull in AoP2:COAS). Anyway street vendors can offer up to 175,000 for it (depends on the players skills). I don't know how long the Portuguese will wait if you change your mind and decide to sell it either way. So far I had checked scull with the lighthouse keeper and with Fadey on Guadeloupe and with Indians on Dominica - no action towards the scull.
Update
It turns out that in order to start Caleuche DLC mission you have to sell the scull. I have sold it to Joachim Merryman about 10 game months after finishing Dutch Gambit. 7 months after that a beggar sold me amulet to start DLC quest (unfortunately my Santiago Lighthouse keeper is broken and isn't speaking). I will try to use use a previous save, maybe I will get lucky and another Lighthouse keeper will have required information.
