Favorite Ship Names

"Schrikverwekker" means something like "Scare inducer" in Dutch.

Sorry, but no, no and no! Zeeland is the old Dutch name for what is really called "Sjælland" (not very international, eh? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> ) and hence the english name Zealand. But don´t worry, we DO realize, New Zealand is named after the wet area you refer to (Australia was, afterall, discovered by Van Diemen) and NOT "Sjælland" <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Zeeland just means "Sealand", which is quite an appropriate name for a Dutch province which consists of a lot of water around a lot of island thingeys.

The ones in yellow are my personal favorites... especially <i>Phalanx</i>... I can see a connection between a hull bristling with guns and a formation of soldiers with shields raised and spears leveled.

My favorite ship so far is the Light Frigate. I like the maneuverability coupled with the firepower. I have one that has 32 lb cannons. I call it "Sir Walter Raleigh's Revenge" With 351 troops I can board anything after a few grape volleys. My standard convoy has that and a Ship of the Line - to carry troops, loot and supplies, mainly.

Henry Avery

argh, i've been aboard the HMS warrior! very nice, but kinda neglected. my favorited will always be the Shark, for cutters and the like, Seablade, for Schooners and such, and my flagship, always called the Crimson Blood, but only with the pirate corvette and above. i'd name brig types the Shark as well. the only exception i ever made to this was calling the warship i owned the Floating brick.

My ship names tend to be somewhat of the goofy side. In other games like WoW, LOTRO, SWG, etc I've tended to name my pets very odd things, for example in SWG I always named my combat droids Billy, its just dorky and funny when someone was killed by Billy lol. In POTC I name my ships goofy things too like:

The Lollipop Express
The Gnu Canoe
SS Minnow
and my personal favorite for my Flagship - The Foo Foo and in the case of very large ships, The Foo Foo Deluxe. When POTBS is finally released I plan on using the same goofy names. Would be really funny to sail into a battle as captain of the Foo Foo Deluxe and have people on the other end lol'ing and then whoop thier ass. It's one thing to be owned by the Blood Galleon or the Black Death or the Black Lotus or some other cool named ship but I bet it would be devistating to an online player to be owned by The Foo Foo Deluxe lol

My favorite ship's names are by order (french first then translated in english):

* Ombre de la Mort - (Death's Shadow - actually a frightened black Heavy frigate faster then death!)
* Faucheuse - (Death ripper - another black Heavy frigate that always escort my admiral ship)
* Sans pitié - (Merciless - My scout ship, a pretty fast Frigate)
* Sombre missive - (Black mark - another scout corvette)
* Redoutable - (Dreadnought - A big warship with 70 guns on three decks)
* Impitoyable - (Reckless - Another big Warship with same number of guns)

Thoses ships are what my enemy's call the Black squadron.
Sometime two or four warship and/ord battleship join the squadron when i'm scouting and plundering english Towns and ships.

Are you French? Cool! See? We DO have French members! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

i like 7 Provinciën, the ship of Michiel de Ruyter the Dutch most famous sea hero.. only we dont have his ship <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> .. i dont what its doing in the caribbean but i like the name..
i also like Black dragon and Appa

Then what about a little push to it? Eh? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/slap.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":slap" border="0" alt="slap.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> ..just kidding. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Anyways my favorite ship name is Plunder & Pillager and that name originally came to me from very old computer game named "Plunder & Pillager" and that name i usually like to put on ship (usually Corvette SS) what has
the most piratey feel. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" />

i like corvettes. they where better in the stock game, but they're still good. i've always been a fan of the pirate corvette, not just for the looks, but because it's got good firepower and speed too. when the enemy is trying to land a hit on me, i'd be whirling around in circles around him or on the spot itself fireing from all sides. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

I command a red sailed ship called "The Crimson Tide". The Tide has been many ships, but the sails always mean one thing: red waters.

hey, that was my old ship name! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> i like the name 'Pampero' too, or Time Bandit, which you may know.

The name of my deadly Pirate Ship is "Black Night"(Ship Model Black Pearl from 14.7) under the command of Cpt. Kain Pire(Sparrows Model)

i'm normally captain hook, as it most closely resembles my own character (in some RPG), except that i don't have all the fancy gold stuff on my jacket and hat.

I normally resemble me, but sometimes I resemble someone else. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" />

I like to use all the old dk shipnames and its name ranking system. The 1st grade ships would be named after the king, queen and princes in latin, like "Christianus Sixtus", "Fredericus Quartus" etc

The 2nd raters down to frigates would be named after parts of the country, like "Laaland", "Sjaelland", "Jylland"(Jutland), "Ditmarsken" etc

The 3rd raters (corvettes) would have names after heroes and 4th raters (brigs) would have names after important instances in the society, like "Lougen"(The Law) "Indfoedsretten"(Birthright), "Mandommen"(Manhood), "Proeven" (The Test) etc

The smaller vessels, like Mail Schooners, and courier ships would be named after animals and fables, like "Justitia", "Hvalfisken" (Whale Fish), "Soehesten"(Sea Horse) "Neptun"etc.

Armed merchant vessels in the East Indian Trading Company had the right - according to old tradecustoms - to be named after the larger cities, like "Kiøbenhavn"(Copenhagen) and "Aros" (Aarhus) while rich merchants was given the right to name their ships after noble persons, sea-heroes and religious/mythological figures like "Grev Rewentlow"(Count), "Odin", "Freia", "Tordenskjold" etc.

I name my ships according to these rules <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
