Well, I was on my way to pay the man for the ship, but missed the deadline. How do I go from here, since there's no one to talk to like the walkthrough says. Is it over?

Yeah, you are now out of the storyline and are in free play. To get back into the storyline you can go back to an old save and try again from there, or just start over again from the start.

Pitty. Kept playing a while trying to find out what to do next, and i've got quite a nice fleet, officers, inventory and money... Guess i'll re-start then.
