Game crashes at each 'New Game'

Hi guys, I have just installed Pirates of the Caribbean (again, this time on this computer as it's such a great game).

The installation went without any problems and I can load the game up without trouble. What is strange is that whenever I press 'New Game', the loading screen will come up, but then the game will just shut itself down completely, without any error messages. I obviously do not have any saved games either, meaning I cannot play the game.

Please, could somebody help me solve this problem?

I have noticed that running Nero appears to be the cause of many problems, but my system is not running this program. I will be grateful for any help at all.

Thanks,

Michal

(This is, by the way, my first post, so please tell me if I have broken any rules)

First of all, welcome to the forum. No, you haven't broken any rules, unless they're rules I'm unaware of. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Can you please <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?showtopic=9234" target="_blank">enable error logging</a> and tell me what's in the generated system.log, compile.log and possible error.log after the crash occurred?

A few questions:
- Did the game work before with those CDs?
- Did the game work before on that computer?
- What version of Windows are you using?
- Did you install any modpacks?
- Do you have something like an Intel Onboard graphics card?

Hi!

The game has worked before with those CDs, however never before have I tried it on this computer. I am using Windows XP, have no modpacks and I THINK that the graphics card is Intel Centrino Duo? If not, then I don't know what it is =[

I did what you tell me about the error logging, caused the game to crash as it has been, and refreshed the Pirates of the Carribean program files, with three new files appearing.

The first one was called DrvMgt.dll and had this message (I have deleted the seemingly random characters before and after the message):
TLOSS error
SING error
DOMAIN error

- unable to initialize heap
R6027

R6026

abnormal program termination
R6009

R6008
- not enough space for arguments
R6002
- floating point not loaded

It also said 'Cannot be run in DOS mode' at the top

The other file (called 'compile', so I'm assuming it is the compile.log you are referring to) merely said:
Init encounters complete.
Init weathers complete. 10 weathers found.
PauseAllSounds
ResetSoundScheme
proc_break_video()

SETTING MUSIC: music\Coridor.ogg
ResetSoundScheme

bool CreateParticleEntity()

!!! Reload to 216
LoadLocation(ref loc) Tutorial_Deck

Finally, the system.log said:

I hope this helps you, and thanks for any help!

EDIT: I have also noticed that in the engine.ini file, under script, it says 'debuginfo =1'; could this mean a debugger is causing the problem?

DrvMgt.dll? Huh? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

I don't see anything particularly strange in system.log and compile.log. Intel Centrino Duo is a processor, not a graphics card. I think the problem is probably somehow hardware-related. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Hmm perhaps you're right, which is strange since this computer is miles better than my previous one =P

But the DrvMgt.dll file doesn't look too good... =/

Hmmm, the only thing that I can actually think of doing is downloading a saved game from right at the start of the game, loading it, and seeing if that works; however I doubt it will

DLL files aren't openable in Notepad; you'll just get gibberish. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />
