    All,

A part of my ongoing HD development series to upgrade the graphics and quality of the game, I recaptured ALL ships in 4K HD before importing the portraits.

All the ships will now have cinematic views with exceptional quality and clarity.

This is a simple modification I agree, but when you are running everything else at resolutions well above 1920X1080, the original portraits really start to show their age. The benefit is obvious no matter what preferred resolution to which you play the game.

Preview listed below of the quality you will expect for every ship in game.

    BONUS:
What is the name of the ship and its ship class type as seen in the front picture of preview?
If you know the answer, you are an old CoAS player and a true Sea Dog.

    Cheers!

    All,

Just a small update for the few of you that were asking.
This mod is still alive, is just taking time to extract the models as I work on other projects and a normal life.

Right now I have completed 41/173 HD ships portraits in GOF Eras.

This texture portrait set will be compatible with GOF 2.0, but several models were changed or added in Eras, as well as some of the hull skins, so it will not be a perfect 1/1 match, but will be REALLY close.

Also, this mod upgrades EVERY ship in the directory, so if you are playing the complete stock version of GOF Eras, you may not even see some ship types as they were initially disabled by MK. (Constitution Frigate comes to mind here).

That is the advantage of this texture pack, because GOF uses nearly everything.

I had to reduce the final images to 1024X1024 (Maximum MIP quality, 32-bit) to make the size reasonable for download. 2048X2048 is just to high because it would push the download well over 3.8 GB alone just for ships.

Each individual ship image file when finished is 5.33 MB, so when all 173 ships are done the total size before compression will be over 900 MB.
The actual download zip size should be much less, maybe 450 MB or so.

If a player has a specific request for a ship portrait that they use as their "flagship" in ULTRA High Resolution (>1920X1080) I can provide it directly, as all of the master files before reduction are well above the 1024X1024 standard.

Small note, I have extracted over 50% of the 170+ ships now for proper portraits while I was overseas.
This project is taking a lot longer than I originally anticipated.
End quality will be the same as the rest of the HD mods.

    Update:

I have around 110 ships now extracted and completed.
Released mod will be ready in roughly two weeks.

    Looking nice!

I don't remember if I had seen them already before, but those flags are certainly also VERY nicely detailed. :onya

All WIP projects are currently archived indefinitely.
In the case of this particular project it was 95% complete, which is highly unfortunate.
Final download size was WAY TOO LARGE right now for most users anyway (>1 GB).
It is possible that at a future date all my additional work and more be released (along with additional credits for supporters), but this will be dependent on the survival of the Akella pirate game series and potential Storm Engine 2.8 external projects beyond the scope of this website.

The files remain in my archives, project WAS completed.
My work may merge with another old modder in the future who has requested the data.
Conditions will be partially dependent on the interest in POTEHO.
