I don't want Age of Pirates...here is why:

I know, I know, it'll probably be the best game I have ever owned. Yet, I want to freeze time, let things be as they are now: AoP on the horizon and the greatest community of modders still going at it, modding PotC to perfection.

My reasons?

1. When AoP is released, I'm 80% sure that it won't reach New Zealand stores for about a month or two. It is kind of an obscure title, so it may be even more than a month. I mean they just got Sea Dogs here (though its in the classics section)! During that time, I would hate to visit my favourite PA forums because everyone would be discussing their adventures in AoP and I'll get jealous.

2. Even if I do `pre-order` it and get it very quickly, I can guarantee I won't be able to play it. I'd miss being able to see crewmen on deck, I'd hate not being able to access my cabin and so on.

3. Imagine getting this game and realizing it's not what you wanted? With PotC it was easy, you just mod it and off you go. What if AoP has a dirty big proverbial lock? The horror. I'd rather keep my dreams.

Well, I think I should stop myself and close the gash that spews this mindless drivel. Time to get on with my life...

One thing I have already been told from akella though, it will not be locked it will be the same as POTC with many scripts everyone can play around with.

Actually after the release i imagine everyone will start with porting over the current mods that are not in AOP so you probably wont miss out to much n the modding in the forst instance. All the new modders will need a couple of months to get up to speed anyways

Any of us who played and enjoyed Sea Dogs is DYING to find out what Akella has in store for us in AOP, I think even with the mods we've been making to PotC... BOY do I want to get AOP! The new website looks really nice, and the screenshots are just marvelous... Kiwi... Matey... While the file _structure_ they have said will be similar, the `engine-specific` calls will be different (that is, almost certainly will be) because they are using an upgraded engine.

Besides, there will be their own implementation of a number of features we've done or are doing, so it'll be quite the project to merge together.

I dont think I'll buy Age of Pirates either.At least not right away.I'll be more on a wait and see basis.

Just for me there is not enough of anything really "new" from what we already have in POTC to make it worth paying for a whole new game.

I also am not a real big fan of Akellas products after having been burned twice by that company with two other games that were more like Alpha versions that were sold to the public.Mostly because half the features in the game were broken or did not work at all.They put out 1 or 2 patches that really fixed nothing and broke more than they fixed and still left most features in the game broken.Then completely ignored the communitys calls to fix the game right.

These 2 games were "Age of Sail 2" and "Age of Sail 2 Privateers Bounty"

I only bought POTC after the community modded the crap out of it.Then it made the game worth playing.

Dont get me wrong Akella made a decent game with Sea Dogs and POTC.And they do seem to really be improving with their customer relations and actual support of the games they make.But I still have that nasty taste in my mouth from the 2 previous mentioned games above to keep me from rushing out and buying anything they make.
 
But there is a community still playing Aos and PB online.
Even if they are buggy, there is no other naval simulation on the market, that allows you to sail online.

We know the bugs and do the best with it. Some restrictions are in the game. just roundshot and no boarding in AOS just four player in PB.

The AI of both games is crap, so just the online play brings the fun.
(Sailing in a Battleline with the officers of your fleet, changing broadsites with the Enermy - great!!!)

So you are right about the support of akella, but the ideas for games, taking place in the age of sail, are still the best.
 
I got PotC (german version) as a present from UbiSoft some weeks ago. Before that i never played a pirate game. But i like PotC despite the bugs and unfinished features since its a very nice little Carribean Morrowind.

For those who are stuck with the unsupported never patched European Version that doesn't work with your great build mod here are a couple bug fixes and tiny mods that i made during the past few weeks (all in German, tho): <a href="http://www.spieleforum.de/forum/showthread.php?t=194152" target="_blank">mods and bugfixes</a>. Besides this seems the only German forum that i found dealing with PotC, if any German speaking refugees need a harbour <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" />

I guess when AoP comes out, i will buy the US-Version, there is no point in using the European version missing out on the great build mods. You guys here really made a game worth playing out of PotC. I hope that Akella implemented at least some of the important key features of the build mod into AoP. I really like the cabin idea, the dry dock in the ship yard and other stuff thats really missing in my version, not to mention more gameplay, better quests ...
 
Which build does not work with you? I´ve got a German version as well and I installed B11, then B12 on top and it works just fine.
 
I had also no Problems with German Version of PotC. You Just have to install R11 before R12. Otherwise it won't run.

Fiatil - if you hate fun, just leave the gunballs in port and attack other ships. - you surely will get sunk or conquerred each time.
