Improving relationship with nations

Hey I just found out you can actually improve your relation with the nations after you turned a pirate! Please pardon me if its an old discovery, but I haven't seen posts about that.

This is how it happened: I started taking over colonies, built churches on them, then go inside and started donating money. Every 2 donations of $1000 or so raise my standing with the nation that previously own the colony by 1 rank (e.g. if its the church on San Dominigo, Spanish reputation is increased) Eventually I was able to befriend the nation again and land normally in their other colonies.

Hope it will be useful~

what do you mean with building churches? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_confused.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="icon_confused.gif" /> i've never used the buildingset mod though, if that's what you mean. and i always thought that you could only improve your personal reputation. seems like a handy thing to know, but i usually prefer to stay in my predicaments to see if i survive them. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

AGE OF PIRATES, Morgan. Age of Pirates! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" />

fooey. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

a-hrrm. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> anyway, most of us don't play AOP. too buggy and worse gameplay than PotC with the mods.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" /> Morgan ..you made my day once again. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

yeah, typical case of duuuuuuuuh. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> woops. me is doofus. etc.

(Teal'c speak here) Indeed. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

I found that out when I made a large donation to a church (it may also have been Santo Domingo, it was certainly one of the Spanish ones). According to the "Character" screen, my reputation with Spain went to "Hero". I could walk freely into any remaining Spanish colony, Spanish ships didn't attack me at sea, but they did attack one of my other colonies - and it wasn't even the one I'd taken from Spain.

There's also someone at Isla Mona who can improve your relations with nations, for a price...

Also note that the next time you take over a colony, everyone will hate you again. Including the nation you paid off, either at church or at Isla Mona.

Okay, apparently there is more to what works in AoP than everyone first thought. Apparently there are some additions to the game that don't come into effect until late game, when you've taken over a city and put your own governor into control. You can actually rebuild all the run down buildings and start using them. Like the church, whorehouse and other things that everyone thought were just switched off. I've not played far enough into the game to verify this, but apparently the game becomes both a city building/strategy game further into it than most folks actually play.

Hi,

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->but apparently the game becomes both a city building/strategy game further into it than most folks actually play.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

That's because the game becomes unplayable through broken escort & trade missions etc....things that work fine at the start of the game suddenly stop working. So most people give it up before they get to use the building upgrades feature.

Well, hopefully this work I'm doing with the russian AoP mods will bear some truly useful fruit since its pretty obvious that the russian modding community didn't give up on AoP and went ahead to get more stuff fixed than you can shake a stick at, else there wouldn't be so many popular and HUGE mods out there like Secrets of Far Seas and City of Abandoned Ships.

Hi,
The Russians have made a very good game out AOP with the SoFS mod , but that too has the same mission problems.

You can find this guy on any or most islands in the tavern! After you talked to him and paid your money it takes a little while to take effect! Isla Mona can only be accessed from the beach on the left if you're not having the second half of the map which I haven't found yet!

So it's one of the people that sits at the many tables then?

Indeed he is. He's a random occurrence and can appear in other city taverns, but is most reliably available at Isla Mona if I remember correctly.
