Installation problem

Randy

Landlubber
Hi,

A few days ago I installed AOP on to my computer--no problem. I then installed patch 1.5--again, everything went well. However, after installing the No-CD (No-Starforce) crack things are not working correctly. I took the game disc out of the machine, rebooted, and double-clicked the AOP icon to start the game. Instead of loading AOP, a box appeared on my screen with the Starforce company logo on it; it said that in order to launch the game additional libraries needed to be loaded. It gave me a choice to click on a "yes" or a "no" button in order to load the additional library (software, I assume.) I clicked no because I thought that clicking yes would install Starforce on to my hard drive. After clicking no, the box disappeared but AOP did not load.

Should I have pressed the yes button? I obviously don't want Starforce on my system. Did I incorrectly install the No-CD crack? I installed the No-CD crack to my AOP program folder.

I'd really like to play this game and I would appreciate any help with getting it to launch on my machine.

Thanks very much!

Randy

It looks like you installed the game with Starforce included and that is a no, no!
You have to uninstall and remove SF. You get info. how to to do it on Boycott Starforce!
Then you reinstall 1.41 and 1.5 and after NOCD and that should get you going!
.......And never install Starforce!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

Nosie: I think Randy is alright. He installed the game, tried to run it, and got the Starforce box. Correctly guessing that this was it trying to install Starforce, he clicked "No", so the game quit. This is fine. Remember, Starforce isn't installed when you install the game, only when you first try to run it.

Randy: You were right to press "No". You <i>definitely</i> should not have pressed "Yes", that would indeed have installed Starforce! Note that there are more than one NoCD patch. If you've installed the version 1.50 game patch, you must also get the version 1.50 NoCD patch. I got mine from <a href="http://www.gamecopyworld.com" target="_blank">www.gamecopyworld.com</a>.

Alternatively you could get the Supermod, available elsewhere on this forum. As you've installed the version 1.50 patch, you'll need to uninstall Age of Pirates, re-install the game, do <i>not</i> install the version 1.50 patch, but install Supermod instead. This includes the NoCD patch and most of the version 1.50 bugfixes. It also opens up a few buildings and allows you to go out into the jungle. It's not perfect as it has a few bugs of its own, but I find it preferable to stock version 1.50. Be sure to get all five updates for the Supermod and install them in sequence after installing the Supermod.

Grey Roger and Nosie,

I used the 1.50 No-CD crack from gamecopy world, but perhaps didn't install it right. I'll try again--if that doesn't work I'll go for the Supermod.

Thanks for your help!

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" /> Notice the link in my sig.
That is the one I used AND IT WORKS FINE!

I also used the version 1.50 NoCD patch from Gamecopyworld and it worked properly.

The patch consists of a RAR file, "AoPCTv1.50.rar" which contains "ENGINE.EXE" and subfolders "Modules" and "program". These should go into your "Age of Pirates" folder. "ENGINE.EXE" should overwrite the existing one, while the contents of "Modules" and "program" should go into the similarly named subfolders in your "Age of Pirates" folder, again overwriting existing files.

Nosie's patch seems to be a single zipped file, "protect.exe", which presumably simply replaces the similarly named file in your "Age of Pirates" directory. Installation should therefore be quicker and easier than the one from Gamecopyworld!

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/diomed.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dio" border="0" alt="diomed.gif" /> I let you know about my little secret:
When you unrar the NOCD Patch, do not overwrite the
the org Engine.exe!!! Unrar into a folder you make up
and replace the Engine.exe created with the one in the
game. Take the old one out or rename and than put the
NOCD ENGINE.EXE in. It has the same Name as the org. file.
..And the one in my link is the same as the one in
GAMEBURNWORLD! Just another name!!!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/slap.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":slap" border="0" alt="slap.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

I don't understand. You seem to be suggesting keeping the original "ENGINE.EXE" file as supplied with the Starforce infested game. The game will then have its original "ENGINE.EXE" plus the "program" and "Modules" folders from the patch. Is there a reason for this? Does the original "ENGINE.EXE" not make any Starforce checks? Does the patched "ENGINE.EXE" cause problems?

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" /> I wrote replace not keep!!!
I have the habit of keeping files in case something
goes wrong!! The Engine.exe has a link to the SF crap
And that has been changed in the NOCD version.
Furthermore I found that overwriting does'nt always work,
so I replace that file!
In the case of overwriting the Engine.exe and things go bellyup
you be reinstalling!!! I only put back the org. file and start again!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

Grey Roger and Nosie,

Thanks for your replies. I'll go ahead and try the No-CD version you used, Nosie. I must have applied the No-CD crack incorrectly. Here's hoping for a successful installation this time.

Have a great weekend!
