List of Development Roles

    Ahoy mates! :aar

    This thread is intended to outline exactly which roles are available in the Hearts of Oak development team, as well as keeping track of who does what and showing where we have vacancies.
    The team will be split into separate groups, each specialising in particular areas, to make sure everyone knows what each other is capable of.

    Below is a list of the groups and individual roles' descriptions (the names of each role are in square brackets). Members added to each group will be listed beneath them.
    If for some reason you are part of the team but not listed here, please let me know.

    UPDATE JAN 2014:

    As part of our new system to encourage active participation, all new applicants will be given a "Provisional" role when they join up.
    As you complete tasks for the team, you will eventually be promoted to the group(s) of your choice.

    • Coordination and Management
    - [Coordinator] - Members willing to take on a management role in the game's development, ensuring that all teams are working together efficiently, and compiling content when necessary.
    Due to the nature of this role, coordinators will be named by appointment only.

    • Creative Support and Brainstorming
    - [Creative Support] - Members contributing in-depth ideas and concepts to the brainstorming threads.

    • 3D Modelling and Animation
    - [3D Artist] - Members with experience in Maya, 3DS Max or similar, who can create high-quality models for various parts of the game. Includes modellers who also produce their own textures and animations.

    - [Animator] - Members who can work with modellers to help bring their creations to life in the game. Includes those who can animate characters and objects to create cutscenes.

    • Terrain Sculpting
    - [Terrain Sculptor] - Members able to generate vast, realistic landscapes for the game.

    • 2D Texture Artists
    - [2D Artist] - Members with experience in Photoshop, GIMP or similar, who can produce high-quality textures for models and user interfaces. Also includes concept artists and shader artists.

    • Programming
    - [Programmer] - Members with suitable programming knowledge, who can help to develop the game's behind-the-scenes code functions.
    UPDATE: Requires knowledge of the CryEngine SDK, or a willingness to learn.

    • General User Interface Developers
    - [GUI Developer] - Members with experience in creating flash content or similar, who can create various GUI elements for the game.

    • Music and Sound Effects
    - [Music and SFX] - Musicians, composers, sound effects artists and voice actors who can create appropriate sounds and tracks for the game.

    • Quest Writers
    - [Quest Writer] - Members with a creative flair who can come up with exciting storyline concepts, and work with the other content creation teams to make these ideas come to life.

    • Quality Control
    - [QC Advisor] - Members with extensive knowledge or expertise in particular subject areas, who can offer support and advice to the content creation teams.

    - [QC Tester] - Members testing Alpha and Beta versions of the game, to help iron out bugs and ensure various features work as intended.
    Members: NONE - This post will not be open until we release the first version of the game.

    • Game Promotion and Advertising
    - Members who can promote the game's development through various media, both to deliver news updates and to help recruit more developers.
    Coordinator: TBD

    If you wish to apply for any of the above, please do so by starting a thread to introduce yourself and your intentions. You may apply for more than one role.
    Some existing members will be placed within these groups to start with; if you want to apply for another role or do not want to be included in one, please say so in this thread.

    Additional Note: If you want to be listed on our CryDev project page, please make a note of the different role names below and apply for the corresponding role on that site.

    I will, of course, try to contribute to the management and coordination as well, just as I know you will, but it'll be great to not have that as my primary responsibility this time.

    Fantastic work Armada, the list is a brilliant idea, and that ribbon addon is looking better every time you add to it mate! :onya

    I rekon I should be on there somewhere, maybe a Documentation/PR/Promotion group? I don't think there is really a need to add a new ribbon for that though, News Gatherer should cover it. I would also be willing to work with Brynn a bit, that is if he would like some assistance from a rather temperamental barbarian. [​IMG]

    Good to hear. Apparently I made the same mistake for several other people, so that's fixed now.

    Please note I've removed some people from the Modders group if they have been assigned one of the new groups and have not participated in any of our mod projects (PotC Build Mod, AoP2: GOF etc).
    All the new groups have the same permissions as the Modders anyway, so nobody loses out. ;)

    Thanks. Good point about a promotion group, too. I could probably add one to the list without creating another ribbon, as you say.
    And of course there's no harm in you giving Brynn some assistance. He did say it's not a one-man job. :onya
