Major breakthrough with Akella

Okay, so I'm finally visiting and posting for real once again. I've got some commentary, some questions and some suggestions -

Commentary:

I love what I've seen as far as the community coming together off and on here as this topic has aged. Lots of interesting things said, great suggestions and successful communication with our counterparts from the other side of the world. Thats flat out awesome in my view of it all. I feel its just great to see this all finally start to come together for the community as a whole. I myself am still silently working on my own little side gigs here and there, just have been very involved here at home and not able to spend time here or on some of the other games I love to play or within the communities I normally haunt.

Questions:

So, we've now got the tools and are just waiting on a more extensive explanation of how to use them. Thats rad. Where do I snatch a copy of those bad boys so I can start poking and prodding at them?

Suggestions:

Keep yer sails reefed and don't drop yer anchors just yet mates, from all I've seen there is piles of idears and fun to be had yet with our favorite games. Be paitient and enjoy the show!

Back out of hiding.... Again.....

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Wow!! You've been a member for a long time! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

As far as I know, the tools Akella supplied PA with are in the "Downloads" section (link at the upper right of the forum), and are listed in the "Modding Tools" category under "Akella's Modding Tools". You'll need to PM Pieter for the password to access them.

As for your suggestions: I agree - I think it's all more just concern for continued growth of the forum, and since the bills are paid until either end-2009 or early 2010 (I think), closure shouldn't be on anyone's mind.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> All ,
Good news... we have recieved answers for the questions sent to Seaward/ru & Akella .

It includes more detailed answers and model examples for locations, items, ammo(a nice new character model fully rigged with skeleton & locators <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> )and an Island example.

So I'll let Pieter see it first (where is he? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />o) )...and let him release the contents to you.

Anyway just to let you know where we're at with the job.

Where's Pieter? He's right here, still at home. I leave on Wednesday. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" />
I have uploaded the file to <a href="http://www.piratesahoy.net/build/tools/HelpFiles.rar" target="_blank">here</a>*.
Now let's hope we can REALLY get to work! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

And yet another HEARTY THANKS to Akella and seaward.ru! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

* For whatever reason, I can not link to off-site files with the Downloads section anymore, but uploads must be under 10 MB.
In other words, there is no way I can get this file onto the downloads section. Same story for Build 14 Alpha 8 then as well, of course. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Ah.. your here, good

Yeah we'll have to get stuck in now and try to get some use out of what we have.

Best of luck to you, then...
About the reply from seaward.ru, that's indeed good news. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" />

Luck to you Pieter, enjoy the cruise time.

The news of new examples and information is incredible!!

Finally some real support for us around here.

An additional little snippet I've been able to glean from the russian Seaward.ru forums is that EVENTUALLY the programs directory in CoAS WILL be unlocked for modding.

Even the russian fans are champing at the bit about that, so much so that questions about WHEN it will be unlocked have been named a lock and delete the thread ultimatum from thier forum moderators, with a forum ban if the same user keeps asking in new threads.

I think an <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> is in order here! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

One thing I've learned over the years - mad Russians should always be appeased, lest you desire drunk Russians instead <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> . Maybe there is hope yet for CoAS to be modder-friendly. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Hi,
First successful model exported in gm from Maya,(well..mine anyway).

This is one of the batch of nine models that Peter Willemoes very kindly bought and donated to us <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" /> :-

The Guillotine.

I'll do the rest of them ASAP. (Gallows next). <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

Hi,

Damn it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> ....can't add that model to a scene because it's got more faces than any scene it can be added to seemingly <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> Too much damn detail.

That's amazing, Damski! Too bad about the poly-count. Any chance of optimizing the thing? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Here's a message from <i>flint</i> that explains how they reimport GM files in Maya 5.o:<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Hello.
Oprimal way to export models in Maya Tool GM to VRLM - 3d Max to OBJ - Maya 5.0 OBJ to GM. Unfortunately exporting cities and 1-class ships impossible. Need source this models in Maya.

You can make attempt ask them seaward under a signature. I don`t know whether the conclusion of agreement is possible not Russian <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> . But this protses will be long, paper docs in post to your and he sent in Moscow for post. Source models in DVD for sent post for your.

Plus responsibility, on non-proliferation of materials in unplaying formats.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Not entirely sure what that last part means, but the first part is clear enough.

GM > Ines Diaz' TOOL > VRML > 3DS MAX > OBJ > Maya > GM

Hi Pieter,
Back already?

I don't know about optimizing it .....might be easier to remake it using some parts of it. I'll have a read up on reducing polys though first.
At least we know not to go mad with detail when making our own stuff now.

As for that ...theres no harm in trying to get permissions etc. Could ask Edward Zaitsev about it. After all it was Akella and Seaward who gave examples showing how to make Islands etc.

That is way cool! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" /> Sorry to hear the model is being problematic, but you'll get it sorted out! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thwalkplank.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":walkplank" border="0" alt="thwalkplank.gif" />

Looking forward to seeing it in front of the French Governor's mansion! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

Very nice guillotine Damski. Was the info you used to make that included in the new content pack we just got?

Looking very forward to playing with the new modelling tools, after I get the work I'm trying to do on translating SoFS done that is. Anyone have a set of partially translated files I can work with? **grins**

Cap'n Drow

Hi Cap'n Drow,
I hadn't made any part of the model, Peter Willemoes had them converted to obj. file format by the author, so they just needed to be exported to gm. Up to getting the example files we've never managed to successfully do that.

But after looking at the examples we got ,I then knew to add the locator to the scene and what to call it to give it it's model type.

As for translating SoFS .....have a look at the...'Secret of Far Seas vers. 0.8.0.225, english version - work in progress', thread. There's still a bit to do on that translation. The files are on the FTP.

We could very much use the guillotine in the original Bartolomeu sidequest on the Havana town square.

So might I get a link to the current FTP and the login info kindly?

Thanks!

Okay, so which directory would the stuff for AoP and CoAS be then? Or do we have additional logins for those games as well like we used to?

Thanks again!
