Medium Priority Making Better use of Indian Weapons

I have made these changes:

1) Autoloot excludes bladearrows to prevent from getting more arrows than you could carry.
2) Now also Pchar and officers switch to tomahawks (if they got one!) when trying to hit with an bladearrow.
3) Pchar, officers and NPC:s do this also when hitting at an blocking enemy. Earlier only when hitting the body.

Tested and works.
Confirmed - I tried it last night. :onya

Would it be possible, instead of switching to tomahawk, to use whatever procedure is used for quick-equipping (e.g. if you press the "F" or "1" key) and choose a melee weapon for PChar that way? If I'm carrying a nice sword and a bow, I want to use that sword when I close on the next Indian, not the tomahawk I looted from the previous one. Otherwise I just have to press "1" myself to equip the sword.

I tried the obvious possible exploit, which is to give a bow and some arrows to one of my officers, take away his gun so he has to use the bow for ranged combat, then see if he spawns a tomahawk. He doesn't. Which is fair enough, but it was worth checking. xD (This means it's not a problem to ensure that officers use their best swords rather than tomahawks. I just don't give them tomahawks.)

Thanks for the work on this. Now I just need to acquire some curare and tar in order to try out the specialised arrows...

There's no limit on how many arrows an officer can carry. I can kill an Indian at the temple, loot his three arrows and give them to an officer, then kill the next Indian, loot his arrows and give them to the same officer.

Sounds strange - officers should have the same restrictions as the player.
I mean if it works for other ammo...
I'll take a look at this when I finally get home.

Here's the fix: officers can't take more than 3 arrows (without a quiver).

Can you link to that in the Fixes thread too?
I want to be sure I don't forget.

Any chance of also having a fix so that player and officers, instead of being forced to use a tomahawk, use the best melee weapon in their inventory? Indians used tomahawks because they hadn't anything better, but Robin Hood switched to a sword when the enemy was too close to shoot. ;)

Update: I don't know if anyone ever arranged for the Aruba trader to sell the bow accessories. But if you now play "Ardent" through to completion, the reward for the recently added "Inca Temple" section, is a bow and all the extra bits - quiver, curare and tar.

Bows are nasty! A single hit may not do much damage, but you won't just take a single hit as it's the only weapon which can be reloaded while you still have weapons drawn, and it reloads quickly. If you can't find who's shooting at you and kill him quickly, you're minus a lot of health by the time you're in tomahawk range.

Indians might not have lootable quivers but I occasionally find one who has 4 arrows available for looting.

Nobody did. Still on the wish-list.

So now we've got Levis' unfinished Apothecary quest AND your storyline to give you the items? Better! :cheers

Good to hear they're actually a challenge! :woot

@Jack Rackham, does that sound right to you?

NPC:s could get 4 arrows. Can't say exactly what happens. My guess is that several things are
happening at about the same time. Like an NPC getting the arrow you shoot at him and getting back his
own fired arrow. (Which temporary had been taken from him.)

Anyway I have added an extra check to prevent that now. It's tested and works. Max 3 it is!

I have noticed that while the natives have arrows only about 1 in 4 has a bow to shoot the things. This means that most natives attack you with their fists. Then the tomahawk is even more rare.

@Jack Rackham: Do you know if it is intentional that not all Indians get a bow?

@Hylie Pistof: You are referring to the random natives in jungles? Or specific quests?
Any chance of a savegame?

They only get a tomahawk when they start attacking you with bow and arrow.
Maybe that doesn't happen if they don't have a bow?

I'm not sure what's intentional.
Just looking at the code now. Seems that the "gun probability" affects Indians too, which means they may or may not get a bow.

Do you think that is a good idea? Or shall I override it and ALWAYS give them a bow?
For now, I'll add a 100% override for Indians.
