was looking over at one of the russian forum (potc.ru) and some guy has put an article from their version of pc gamer there and in it was this ( courtesy of bablefish)

Caribbean Basin, 18 islands, the half dozen of politically active sides, play peace with the claim on the independent life, the management of its own colonies and the human interface.
The fact that the developers call the "unique system of the development of character", so usually is ordinary which is simple the horror of what - that. You look themselves, diagram following. For combat and fulfillment of Quests the characters obtain experience. When its a quantity reaches the specific value, characters obtain experience. When its a quantity reaches the specific value, characters rise in the level. Raising the level the player can select to his hero one or other ability or another and improve already existing. Everything.
Then another is much more interesting. To us obeshchana the possibility of the development of its own colonies. For the moment of visit by this author Of "akelly" the management - interface yet not was prepared however in developerov in the plans to organize him for manner Heroes of Might and Magic, that one cannot fail to greet. From the same series the hire of the officers, who command the ships of your squadron and lead your colonies. All this together, from one side, it complicates game, and with another - makes it deeper and it is more interesting.
By separately tasty seem the razrabotcheskiye promises of the relatively "living" peace, which functions without the interference of player. To implementirovat' this thing in reality where is more complex than it can seem. It is here important to consider a very large quantity of inevident at first glance factors. Because it is very simple to make a static peace. To somewhat more complexly create the closed system, that functions according to its laws. It is entirely complicated to make such system, which, living its own life, would know how adequately to react to the user activity. This system with its entire apparent independence must be developed according to the `well-defined` and strict rules. Because, the nedoupravlyaemye parts of any system in the final analysis of it push off according to Ashby's law. Sunset in the game is completely improbable.
Essence "corsairs 2" miraculously manage without the rigidly assigned topical line. Player swims aboard his ships, he deals, it is married the governor daughters, it carries out tasks and seizes colonies for himself or one of the existing in the game European countries. When all colonies pass into the possession of what - that side, game solemnly will end.

ok most of it is hard to understand but the last part got me wondering, the capture for yourself OR a country... puts a little twist on it methinks <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Yes, it certainly does!

I think this new game looks very interesting - and rather like what the modders have already done to PotC - BUT as you say, with some new twists...

Some of the Russian modders have come up with some great ideas too. There is a movement afoot in the PotC Modding section to translate one of the Russian Mods so we can play it... Rico and Alan_Smithee are working on it, I think, with Sailor Al.

I think it will be fun to add that 'Empire conquest' angle to SeaDogs2/Corsairs2. Borrowing from 'Pirates'(Microprose) isnt a bad idea, and i'd like to see some more like treasure maps and the finding lost family etc.

I think that with 'empire conquests' it needs to be pretty difficult. In 'Pirates' and at present in PotC its too easy to attack/take forts - also which ever world power you are campaigning against should get really mad with you and launch counter invasions. So getting a good game balance here is very important.

I'm sick as a parrot over the available Mods for PotC - sadly the only machine i have powerful enough to run PotC is my xbox(might change in a few months). And all the great things in those Mods is making my mouth water - cant wait to try them out <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate_plain.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p3" border="0" alt="pirate_plain.gif" />

Yeah, but even in Pirates! i thought it was pretty easy to take over towns, its just that there were soooo many of them to take over that took all my time up <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p:" border="0" alt="pirate2.gif" />

In Pirates i used to enjoy trying to turn the whole caribbean to one flag(usualy english or dutch) - the main barrier to this was getting old and being forced into retirement, not the fact that taking forts was too hard.

Still having the option to do it was a great idea, and Seadogs2/Corsairs2 would definatley benift from it - so its all good news <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p:" border="0" alt="pirate2.gif" />
