Maps for the dungeons

Machado

Landlubber
I just bought the game, it's old, but it's realy cool.

I play now only the normal version of the game. (I'm planing to play it the second time with the mod.)

So my problem is, that fight with the skeletons in dungeons is hard, but sometimes to find the exit from it, it's even harder and frustrating, 'cause sometimes the skeletons tends to keep reappearing for some reason.

I read somewhere that there is maps for the dungeons, but a I couldn't find it anywhere.

Also I found dungeons and caves hear:
Oxbay Dungon from the shippyard and the port (are they connected?) - hard like hell
Oxbay Cave - not so hard but couldn't find a sword.
Redmond Dungeon - find a highlander, but got killed
Douwesen Cave - same as with the Oybay cave

I also find a mission after gambling in the tavern of Douwesen. I freed a woman from the pirate and I help him to find his lover. I go to Falaise..(<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />), and after a scene in the tavern, she told me to get her to the french governor, but the town hall is always closed for some reason. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />((

Thanks for any help. This site rocks.

There are Dungeon maps in Pieter site : <a href="http://www.s31clan.com/privateftps/pietersmods/" target="_blank">http://www.s31clan.com/privateftps/pietersmods/</a>
look in 'maps'

Skeletons don't reappear in all dungeon. For exemple in Douwesen they don't. In Oxbay they do - sometimes you can meet a dozen of them at the same time if you took the wrong decision at a moment...

I thought there were always skeletons in all dungeons in the original game. Perhaps I'm wrong; it's been <i>aaaages</i> since I played the original game.

The original game contained a fair few bugs. I don't recall the Falaise de Fleur townhall always being closed being one of them though. Try spending the night at the tavern and try again after that.

Yes, the skeletons were always here when you enter a dungeon in stock PotC ; we are talking of them reappearing while you are still in the Dungeon. Some are generated in some places, just like soldiers when there is a fight in town. So you thought you had clear all the way, and try to go back to the exit, and you run into new skeletons, some times a lot of them... Try this in Oxbay : fight your way to the grot and then in stead of leaving the place and getting to the harbor walk all the way back. You'll understand what we are talking about!

Ah! And they don't regenerate at the Douwesen dungeon? I see; didn't know that.

Speaking of maps : if someone would knock off a mapmaking adventure going through the jungles on all the islands, he should be rewarded with a big kickass smilie from me. Jungles...mm...just suck!

i could do that. i've been thinking of the idea for a long time. i'll have to do a bit of in-game research for some on the jungles though. i'll draw some nice and piratey maps. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> shouldn't take too long to make the first ones, but the ones that require research will take a bit longer. maybe a lot longer in some cases, as i might keep getting lost like everyone else. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

I think this would be a nice addition to the Build.

I fear however that it is so large a project that it won't be completed.
There might even be some duplication in what is finished.

I propose that we keep this, or make a new topic just for maps.
Anyone willing to try their hand at it should choose an island and let us know so that we don't have duplications.

I would be willing to try KhaelRoa. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" />
It is a really confusing Island.

Maps would be good. I could post them on my site on the maps page. Also: A lot of the jungles are copied from one island to another, so if you have done the jungles of the existing islands, perhaps you could just do a copy-paste job to make the maps for the others. Would also be nice if we could add the maps to the map interface so that you can view them ingame and perhaps even see your own location on them. But that would require quite a bit of work. Would be cool though. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

well, i'll do FDF, QC, oxbay, redmond, conceciao (although i'm not sure about this one), isla muelle, basically, most of the old islands. remember though that they will be just simple pencil drawings. it will probably be some time before i deliver the first batch too, because i've got a big drawing project going on which i want to finish first. i'm at least one third done with it. i might find some time to draw a map or two in between though. i'll go fetch some paper!

Morgan, you may be all by yourself in this project and get to all the islands.

Then again, someone else may come along, become interested in doing something like this, and find that you have already claimed all the major islands for yourself.

My point with my earlier post, was that it would be better to just pick <b>one</b> location at a time and do the map.
Once done to the highest Build standards, then go on to pick another location.

i'll see what i can do. i'll just draw a simple map of them, showing the routes and some eyecandy as well. should the secrets of the islands be added as well or not?

Version with and without them perhaps? Draw the map, scan it, add the secrets, scan it again. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

okay. i presume those maps will be buyable in-game? the secret ones will of course be harder to find and-or more expensive. i'll see if i can smuggle a sheet of paper to school. or... from, in a more piratical manner.

In the worst case, the maps will just be posted on my site and people can choose which one to view. Ideally, they will indeed be buyable ingame. Depends on whether somebody would actually put the buyable ingame function to the game.

they'll be pretty big though. expect them to be the width and height of the short side of an A4 sheet of paper. or should they be smaller? it would be useful to have a specific size.

Resizing on the computer is always possible. But we don't want to lose too much detail when making the maps screen-size.

i think the size i mentioned earlier would be just about right then. it seems to fit on my relatively small screen, holding the piece of paper next to it.

Excellent idea. When I have graphics work done, I would put them ingame, unless someone else is ready to do this.

pirate_kk

That would be great, Pirate_KK! We already have the <a href="http://www.s31clan.com/privateftps/pietersmods/maps.htm" target="_blank">dungeon maps</a> that could be added. Once the interface and code has been written, it should be relatively easy to add additional maps.
