After conversation with locals, I often realize that the conversation costed me 5000 gold. It mostly happens with people who want to give me an advice, regardles of whether I wanted to hear the advice or not.

You got your pocket picked. That's an intentional feature.
When you notice, you can talk to the thief and see about getting your money back.

There is a clue it happened immediately after the dialog closes.
It is more obvious at lower difficulty though.

The Options menu contains a toggle to control this mod.
If you don't like it, you can disable it there completely.
