My PC Hates Disk 1

I'm having a bit of a problem with Disk 1. Half of the time my disk drive doesn't even read the thing. When it does it doesn't really make the best noises, or the normal whir of when it's working. It doesn't have any problems with any other game or Disk 2. After a few tries I managed to make it past the install, but it still complicates things a bit. Is there anyway I can play the game without disk 1? Say, a No CD patch, or a way to copy the files from the disk and play off of that?

I had the same problem with a new game years ago. I mailed the CD to the company and they sent me a new one.

Sadly it's not exactly a new game. I've had it for about half a year. There's no visible damage to the CD though, in fact it has one of the best looking surfaces of all the ones I have.

That shouldn't matter. If it's defective, and you send it to them, then they should replace it.

Really now? Is it a standard thing, or do I have to do something to activate it? I've already got it installed, it's a must have for the game of course <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> . Oh, and since you're here already, I'm having another unrelated problem with the build. Seems everytime I use the quicksave thing, I get a bad save. The first one was fine, but every one after says "Bad Save" and I can't load it. Any idea what's wrong?

If you have the Build installed, you don't need the CD to play.

I think the quicksave feature is a bit screwed up - if you quicksave and get a "Bad Save" icon, actually your game is okay - but the only way to load it is if you quit the game and then go back into it again. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> I <b><i>THINK.</i></b> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/oops3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="ops2" border="0" alt="oops3.gif" />

Hmm, quicksave still seems a bit buggy. I did a quicksave and quickloaded it, and found I couldn't move. Couldn't open up menus or anything, so I reloaded the game. Went to the load screen, and the latest savewas about half an hour prior. It's a shame really, it's a nifty feature.
