Nathaniel Hawk Campaign

Redbeard

Sailor
Hello! Newbie to the AOP2/Corsairs/POTC series. I've played AoP2 and POTC/New Horizons freeplay quite a bit, so I understand the basics pretty well. Sea Dogs TeHO and Peter Blood in AoP2 each terrify me, I have never tried a campaign before. I figured I would try the standard campaign in POTC New Horizons, namely Nathanial Hawk.

However, in Sea Dogs TeHO, you have a time limit for quests. You take to long in freeplay and you ruin later quests by not doing things as was suggested. For instance you need to make like 500k in 3 or 4 months, or you will not be able to continue the campaign correctly.

How does this work in Nathaniel Hawk's campaign? I went to Port Royale, but I'm worried I need to go straight to Barbados or I will mess up the main quest.

Can I go about trading, and taking charter quests for months and get a better ship and equipment WITHOUT messing up the main quest? Can I just do what I want in between missions, or is there a time limit in place?

Most missions don't have a time limit. I don't remember (m)any parts in the main quest that do.
If there is indeed a time limit, it should be mentioned in the dialog or the Questbook.

People have done free play alongside the main quest for years and we have always encouraged that.
I can't remember anyone accidentally breaking the main quest by failing a time limit.

There are a few sidequests that do have a time limit, but those are not crucial and aren't related to the main quest.

Long story short: I think you'll be fine. :doff

Correct. You can take as long as you want to get to Barbados, or for that matter, any other destination during the storyline quests. You can indeed do trading, take cargo or escort quests, or even take side quests, and the storyline should continue. I've routinely completed "Tales of a Sea Hawk" by mixing the main story with various side quests.

One of the side quests is "Hard Labours of an Assassin", which triggers when you first enter Sao Jorge tavern and which does have time limits. You'll be told what the time limit is. Also, a couple of the other main storylines have time limits on some missions and again, if you're playing those storylines, you'll be told the time limit. But if you have not been told to complete a mission in a certain time then you can take as long as you like.

Thanks guys! I was worried I'd have to rush things to get the story done. Now I can take my time, practice my pathetic fencing and sailing skills, and get the necessary ship and equipment for me to feel comftorable during the dangerous main missions. :)

To Each his Own really forced you to keep moving. Anyway thanks for the quick replies!

We like giving players the opportunity to do what they like.
So if they want to do some free play between the main story, I don't see a reason why they shouldn't be able to do that. ;)
