New character

Very very nice indeed. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Ok Jack all done.

The beta texture from the previous pic has now been tweaked and polished, I have also done two other variations in Black and Navy as per request . I kept the colouring subdued and simple both because it looked better that way and I got the feeling that was what you were after. I also gave him a new face lossely based off of Tim Roth as well as a slew of fixes and finishing touches which nobody but me will ever notice but you will appreciate them subconsciously. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

Anyway check out some pics at...

<a href="http://daede.i8.com/POTC/Stephan.html" target="_blank">http://daede.i8.com/POTC/Stephan.html</a>

I hope he meets with your approval, if so let me know if you have any particular preferences/ideas for his ingame portrait and I will incorporate them as best I can and upload to the FTP within the week.

Cheers,
Daede.

Can we have him as is, plus a version with a plain black coat (pirate doctor) and one with a plain navy blue coat (naval doctor), too, with suitable variation in breaches and waist coat?

Many thanks and keep up the great work. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Mate, excellent work. Superb. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Just what the doctor ordered (pun may or may not be intended). <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

I agree with your comments on your linked site that the more sombre colours do work better for this naturalist/doctor character. These models are indeed what I was after and I think you've really hit the nail on the head. Also, whilst I mentioned him as a guide I was not necessarily after THE Stephen Maturin as an individual character, so yeah, I'm accepting this model as a doctor/naturalist/scientist/philosopher/etc. whom I hope to meet some day and invite him to join my ship.

Once again, excellent work there matey, and many thanks.

My shout, cheers <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/beer2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":beer" border="0" alt="beer2.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/beer2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":beer" border="0" alt="beer2.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Looking very nice indeed, just like your other skins. Great job. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

If you're wanting to do another two skins on request: How about Pintel and Ragetti? The two funny pirates from Pirates of the Caribbean:
<img src="http://captainjack.t35.com/RagettiPintel.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
I've been requesting for those two characters in the game for quite some time. I'd like them to replace the two cursed pirates that try to take the chest from you during the main quest.
Don't do this unless you want to though. And unless it isn't too complicated. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Allright Jack I have uploaded to FTP...

<a href="ftp://ftp.piratesahoy.net/Daede_-_Stephan_Maturin-esque_Naturalist_-_v1-0.ace" target="_blank">ftp://ftp.piratesahoy.net/Daede_-_Stephan...list_-_v1-0.ace</a>

Enjoy.

Pieter I will have a look through the models tommorrow to see if I can find two with the right shapes, will see where it goes from there. To get the raggety look to their clothes though may involve alpha maps and I don't know if POTC supports Alpha channels in their character textures, do you? Otherwise it should be a fairly simple job assuming I can find appropriate models.

Cheers,
Daede.

P.S. Jack is all that for me <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" /> Cheers!

Matey, once again many thanks.

Yeah, all those "schooners" of ale are for you unless you'd prefer "pints". Pace yourself there matey, cause we'll be on to the rum next.

Cheers, <i> from Sydney Cove in the colony of New South Wales </i> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Pieter,

I have chosen the victims... er I mean models for Pintel and Ragetti, I am using Old_man2 and Man1_1 respectively and have finished the heads. It may be a week or two until I get time to do the outfits though as I have yet another Network 'Baldur's Gate' marathon this saturday and then will need to rent a copy of the POTC movie to get the correct colour schemes etc as I couldn't find a good full outfit pic of Pintel online.

In the meantime just for laughs I have whipped up this pic to show off the new heads.

Due to the models used Pintel has cut his hair a bit shorter and Ragetti has let his grow, these textures will no doubt undergo some further tweaking when the outfits are finished so should be considered Alpha versions. I hope they meet with your approval.

Cheers,
Daede.

P.S.
To answer my own question POTC does support Alpha Channels although I won't be using them in these textures.

Hehe. Looks funny! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
Shame about the long hair on Ragetti though. Couldn't you swap a hear with another model? I know that ahs been done before... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
BTW: Would it be possible to give Ragetti his wooden eye? If not, never mind.

Anyway: Thanks for taking this up. I'm sure they'll turn out great, just like your other skins. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

There -is- one model that uses two different eye textures, but it`s the pirate guy wearing the bandana, with the long hair and scar over one eye. otherwise all the texture images have only one graphic for both eyes.

I don't think hair has ever been swapped, only entire heads.
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->BTW: Would it be possible to give Ragetti his wooden eye? If not, never mind.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
The model probably maps the single "eye" image from the tga.tx file to both eyes so that won't work without actually changing the gm (model) file in a way not done here before.

<!--quoteo(post=136275:date=Dec 17 2005, 06:35 PM:name=Petros)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Petros @ Dec 17 2005, 06:35 PM) </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->I don't think hair has ever been swapped, only entire heads.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Woops. I meant to write "head", not hair. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> All,

Just a quick check in seeing as there has been some discussion.

There are only two heads that offer non mirrored eyes and neither of them are head swap friendly, which is to say I could swap their head but you would end up with big gaps in the model etc so no go there I'm afraid. I did look at using the Corsair2 model instead of man1_1 and whilst it would probably end up looking cooler it would not end up looking like Ragetti in any but the most abstract sense. There is only so much that can be done on a texture level and unfortunately Ragetti's lean body shape is a more defining characteristic than a slightly discoloured eye (which is all you would be able to notice in game if I did use one of the non mirrored heads).

Pretty much the same goes for the hair, Man1_1 and the other models that use the same base are the only lanky body shaped models in the game and I couldn't find one that offered short hair or that could be head swapped for a short hair model, sorry. If it's any consolation Ragetti's character look in all of the early pre production sketches I have seen show him with long hair, it appears that was how he was originally intended so we can pretend this is how Ragetti was really meant to look but didn't for reasons unknown to us(Wow what a lame cop out).

Having said all of that I am not happy with how Ragetti is turning out anyway, the lanky model I mentioned is very poorly put together(thats two cop outs now) and I am having to make a lot of adjustments to the texture to try and compensate which is making the whole process more difficult than it should be(don't worry though I will not cop out of doing these textures entirely). As such there is a chance that I may scratch this model and try on a different one but I don't like my chances of finding anything better.

Anyway this is where I got up to before I put all this aside for the gaming marathon I am in the process of...

This is very early days and much tweaking is still required, the whole thing looks way too cartooney at the moment and all that will change when I get a chance to come back to it. I only posted this so you could see the model in its entirety and hopefully why I chose to use it.

Hopefully I will have the time to finish these off next week sometime but I can't make any promises as I will be moving house within a few weeks so my free time is kinda going kaput, but I will finish them as soon as I am able.

Cheers,
Daede.

Looks quite good to me. Certainly better than I dared hope for. If you manage to make it even better, that'll be great. His face is a bit reddish though. Ah... Well... I suppose that's what you get for being cursed. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />
