    Absolutely brilliant! :onya

Did you make her stern more blueish than before? Fits nicely! :woot

The base colour for the stern is still black, but the supporters either side of the shield take up quite a lot of it and are dark blue with golden heads.

I do recall a version with a built-in cabin, but clearly this was not integrated into the upgraded model currently in the game.

Indeed. The most important for me is to let her as quest ship. If for that, you must change some code, feel free to do it.

At the moment the Pirate Fast Galleon is effectively the earlier periods' equivalent to the Crimson Blood. You can't buy it, you can't encounter it at random, it normally only appears in its own quest, but it is available as a repaint in the shipyard. I can easily enough put a stop to that (just get rid of its 'refShip.Model' line in "Ships_init.c"), if you want - especially as there is now another repaint available for the Fast War Galleon.

To clarify, the only question is this:
Do you want players who buy a regular "Fast War Galleon" to be able to repaint her into your quest-only version?
It will not be available for regular purchase nor will it be encountered anywhere that you did not intend.

    Yes.

I have on my PC a copy of everything from my previous PC, including an install of AoP. It won't run, of course, but it means I can get GMViewer and Animation Viewer to look at models from AoP, so I had a look at some of the ships. One of them is almost identical to our original Fast War Galleon, except that it has "E R" on the platform round the stern, marking it as an English galleon, though a bit odd - I can't remember off-hand exactly in which year AoP was set, but I'm certain it was in the 17th century, so "E R", Queen Elizabeth I, would have been dead by then. But the ship also had the same coat of arms on its stern as the original "bortoutFsGaleon2". So that coat of arms was indeed English.

That ship model was definitely sourced from AoP.
I doubt they had your eye for historical accuracy while making that game.
Or any other commercial pirate game for that matter. ;)

The fast galleon came in different versions over the years. There was the original COAS version and the POTC version. The POTC version did have cabins too. Armada and I worked on it in 2013. Then in May 2014 De Zeeroovers gave us their version of the fast galleon and we dropped our version and used theirs. Due to a hard drive crash I no longer have any of those older files so if you want to install a cabin to the current fast galleons you will need to find a version of POTC from before May 2014.

So basically, what I want is the old "b14_beta3full" archive, which dates back to April 2014. Fortunately, I hoard stuff. :treasure:

From first experiments with "GMViewer", it looks as though those ships have chunkier bowsprits without sprit topmasts. Where are masts assigned? Is it possible to use that hull model with its cabin, along with the newer mast set?

Masts are set with locators in the GM files.

I haven't tried to resurrect the original AoP fast war galleon (called "Galeon_h1" there, which is probably why the texture file in PoTC is still called "bortoutGaleon_h1.tga.tx"). But I did look at it with GMViewer, and it appears to have the same masts as the version I found in the "b14_beta3full" archive. So my guess is that @Hylie Pistof and @Armada improved it one way, adding the cabin and transparent windows; while De Zeeroovers improved the masts and rigging instead. What would be nice is if someone who knows how to mod ships could take the improved hull and improved masts and put them both into one fully improved model.

For comparison, here's how the two versions look. Disregard the flags; for the purpose of this quick experiment, I didn't bother changing "Ships_init.c", so the flags on the older version are wrong.
    fastgalleon3_old.jpg fastgalleon3_new.jpg

But this exercise has had one immediate result. See the discontinuity on the bow on the new version? That's because, when I created "FastGalleon3", I copied the entire model from "FastGalleon2" and changed the hull model to use texture file "bortoutFsGaleon1.tga.tx". What I didn't realise is that the bow is a separate model and also needed to be changed. I also didn't notice the problem, thinking the bow was supposed to look like that, until I resurrected the older version and saw how it should look. So I've now corrected the bow model in both "FastGalleon3" and "FastGalleon4", and updated the upload on the FTP site. Next time you see "FastGalleon3", it's going to have the correct bow.

I've also found this by pointing GMViewer at my old AoP install:
    galeon_l1.jpg
Anyone want that brought into PoTC as well? Our "Fast War Galleon" is AoP's "Heavy Galleon". This is the AoP "Light Galleon". I'm considering putting into the "Early Explorers" and "Spanish Main" periods as a light merchant ship, primarily for England given the paint scheme, though France and Holland could have some use of it as well.

Those versions with visible cabins were the work of Russian modders; can't remember the specifics, I'm afraid.

As for any ship additions, I won't stop you.

I think it's already in POTC as it looks just like the ship I retextured to be the Golden Hind.

It certainly looks similar to the Golden Hind, but I don't see a similar generic ship in the PoTC line-up. There are the big Spanish galleons, the fast galleons, and the Revenge variants.

You agree that players can repaint a regular "Fast War Galleon" into the pirate version? Or do you want that disabled?

    The current status is:
The Pirate Fast Galleon can not be encountered at random on the high seas. It can not be bought in a shipyard. But if you have acquired a normal Fast War Galleon, you can repaint it into the Pirate Fast Galleon, like this:
The choices of paint scheme, shown at the top of the picture, are the original Fast War Galleon, the new red Fast War Galleon, and your black Pirate Fast Galleon. You can repaint any of them into any other of them. Do you want the Pirate Fast Galleon to appear as a repaint option like that?

Bartolomeu agrees with the ship's use like that.

I also agree, on the assumption that their stats are identical.
If not, then it is the "Santiago" situation where repainting should of course not be supposed.

They're pretty close. "PiratFastGal" has 18lb carronades by default, while other Fast War Galleons have 18lb long guns. But "PiratFastGal" has MaxCaliber 18, so you won't end up with inappropriate weapons - it's allowed to carry 18lb long guns, it just doesn't get them to start with. The other difference is that "PiratFastGal" has MinCrew 68 while others have MinCrew 45, which probably won't do anything drastic. MaxCrew is the same on "PiratFastGal" and other Fast War Galleons, so you won't end up with excessively high crew by repainting from one to another. Other stats are also the same.
