New weapons I've made.

Colosseum

Freebooter
Storm Modder
I've made a few new weapons to go into the game, 5 new swords. Problem is, the tutorials for adding items don't take into account the new way the initItems.c file is organized... I can get my weapons to show just fine, however. I added the icons onto the free spaces on items8.tga.tx, thinking it wouldn't affect anything, and then when I started the game, there weren't any icons for gunpowder or bullets that were in my inventory.

Anyways, the 5 new swords are as follows:

<img src="http://www.ipa-consolidated.net/potc/jackaubrey.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" />
Jack Aubrey's Saber
The sword favored by the famous Lucky Jack. He carried this sword against the French privateer "Acheron", in 1805

<img src="http://www.ipa-consolidated.net/potc/franklinrapier.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" />
Franklin Rapier
Forged in Boston at a smith sponsored by Benjamin Franklin, these excellently crafted American sabers cut through anything.

<img src="http://www.ipa-consolidated.net/potc/swissguard.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" />
Swiss Guard's Saber
These light swords are carried by the vaunted Swiss Guardsmen, who are sworn to protect the Pope and the Vatican.

<img src="http://www.ipa-consolidated.net/potc/horseguard.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" />
Lifeguard's Saber
These excellently crafted blades are used by the British Life Guard heavy cavalry regiment. How it ended up in the Caribbean is unknown.

<img src="http://www.ipa-consolidated.net/potc/imperialguard.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" />
Imperial Guardsman's Rapier
These types of swords were handed out to Napoleon's Imperial Guard officers during the latter parts of the Napoleonic Wars.

I don't have them textured and hexed for world model views, but I figure it doesn't really matter since you can't really see the sword's hilt very well. If someone who can hex wants to do this, that would be great, too.

Thanks!

Nice swords. The hex is just, open the gm file, search/find .tga and then fill in the texture name of the tga.tx file. !!! IT HAS TO BE THE SAME AMOUNT OF SIGNS!!!

Yeah, I know how to hex (I've done it alot modding Half Life 2), I just don't feel like messing with it because the last time I tried it it didn't work and messed my game up. :p

You know what would look cool? Retexture Nocholas Sharp's saber of the Squall and give it a completely new icon.
<img src="http://www.hrw.com/si/social/si_beginnings/si_washington/si_img/02gwswrd.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" />

George Washington's sword! I know that it would realistically impossible to use it, but hey the description could be:
"Because you served so courageously at sea, General Washington presented you with his own sword!"

Could you not just say 'George Washington rewards you with a sword made after his own'?

That too! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

wow, those are mighty fine swords you made there, nice job <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Nice blades.

I wished I knew why the pictures for gunpowder and bullets went missing. What happens if you start a new game?

You can also try using the older update with the old initItems.c file. Apprently the August ones mean trouble. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wacko:" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

Matey you should add this one as a special one off blade:

<a href="http://www.historicalfencing.org/Macdonaldarmory/montoya.htm" target="_blank">Inigo Montoya Rapier</a>

A classy blade for a classy swordsman made by MacDonald Armouries (Maestro Paul Macdonald's company). Apparently even fencing masters have a soft spot for the Princess Bride...

Nice work. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

A little early for this don't you think? 1691 is long before Jno. Aubrey, Napoleon, and Be Franklin were even thought of.

Yeah, so? When do you supposed the time period for walking skeletons and poisonous monkeys existed? Its a game...

LOL. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

wow......very nice!
would you by chance be able to make Commodore Norrington's promotion blade? THAT, i think, should be a blade that EVERY British Royal Navy fan aspires to get. perfectly balanced, gold filligry [sp?]........making me drool just thinking about it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jackhat.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j2" border="0" alt="jackhat.gif" />

You know what... I'm surprised that DOESNT already exist in the game... it being "pirates of the caribbean" and all that, ya know?!

yeah. unfortunately, Akella decided to cut out all the best First Person RPG bits in the game, and leave the scrappy ones, with a few exceptions....

I think that <b>YourObed't Serv't LordNelson</b> still has a valid point. Yes, it is a fictional world, with some magic sprinkled on, yes, <i>HMS Dauntless</i> is based on ship from later era... and so is <i>HMS Interceptor</i>, but there are no things blatantly predating their era.

And those swords are blatantly predating their era. I mean, we constantly have clock telling us precisely when we are, and suddently we have the opportunity to get the sword from the future? Wouldn't it strike anyone as... odd?

*mimics Jack Sparrow*: but they're a bunch of pretty knifes....Swords! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jackhat.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j2" border="0" alt="jackhat.gif" />
