I am a frustrated Pirate...while I am waiting for Age of Pirates to get fixed...or put to sleep... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huhh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:k" border="0" alt="huhh.gif" />


I was wondering about this game and how it compares to the gameplay in Aop ...is it open ended or linear ?

I read the faq but its confusing as to my options to just free roam or not.


I like to get some feed back from fans of the game and the Mods they reccomend...also a hint as to how to actually buy one...Amazon doesn't show any currently ( new ) .

I'd prefer owning the disc vs a dowload.

well, you do have a main quest, but you don't need to follow it, and do anything you want when you want. after you finished the main quest, you can continue playing and join the pirates to become the fear of the caribbean, for example.(if you have the build that is. i highly recommend it!) that's the point where all the limits are gone.(as i said you don't have to do the main quest, but it can help in terms of cash and ships). there are plenty of sidequests, so you wont be bored. be warned though: the gameplay is a real pain at first, but after some practice, trying things and lots of advice, it should go fine.

Freaking frustrating....a three year old game because newer games suck moose farts...and cant get it right .

Pirates of the Caribbean without the mods is a nice game, but buggy. Basically Age of Pirates with less good graphics. Not sure if AoP or PotC was bugged worse. I think AoP might be bugged worse, because I managed to finish the unmodded PotC without running into any really weird or bad things. I don't have AoP nor do I plan on getting it. I am quite happy with PotC. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

As unimpressive as the Pirates of the Caribbean game might originally have been, this has all been changed with the Build mods. As far as I'm concerned, PotC is now the best pirate game available. Build 12.1 fixes a lot of bugs and introduces a lot of new features that make the game much more worthwhile. Build 13 is just about to be finished and will add even a whole lot more features. Once you get the game and have played it for a bit, I can HIGHLY recommend getting the mods to greatly enhance the fun. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
 
note that you should first install build 12.1 before you can install build 13 (i think). this is because it would be way to large to download for people with a slow internet connection.
 
Well build 13 is curently in beta form(8 soon!) but very soon should be a full release. I think it will be available as one download at this point also(no more messing around with many install steps).

So hoi! ledhed and welcome - if you can get lucky with buying PotC you will find it streets ahead of pretty much all other pirate games out there. Its a shame AoP wasn't given a bit more time to be finished - that could have taken PotC crown, but maybe pathces down the line will fix all its problems?

I got PotC recently for PC(i had been a PotC xbox player before) - cost me £5 on amazon in the uk, and imho in this age of rather bland games its been easily keeping me happily occupied. And i've been pretty amazed by all the stuff thats been improved in the game via the mods, definately worth the effort of trying to buy imho.

Soon Pieter should have one easy download for new gamers to PotC. So all you will need is the game and the Build13 final release. check Pieters pirate page(in his sig) for the current steps and stages involved in playing a modded game of PotC. Good Pirate fun awaits ye!
 
As soon as the final Build 13 is released, it'll be available as an all-in-one download though. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

(i believe there will also be a smaller download not including 12.1(full) - so more like the prebuild13+beta in one package - for folks who dont have broadband)

Count on about 300 MB for the final Build 13 download. I will make a smaller version as well though for installation on top of Build 12.1.

I think the UbiSoft version might be the European version of the game. I know it says UbiSoft on my European version of the game. I'm not sure who released the game where, but Bethesda and UbSoft both have something to do with it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />
 
i hope i can install it! i think i have to little space left for the build 13 on top of build 12.1.

I have the Ubisoft version, its on their 'exclusive' budget label - and the disks are not coloured - just silver with black details(2 discs). I got mine from amazon uk for about £5(sterling), was about £9 incl postage. A bargin also <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I think I know your very close to release of a new mod pack ???

But if its not toooo much trouble , although I did read instructions in another thread on installing the mod..order etc.

I don't know if those are updated instructions ..or if the procedure has changed ...I went to the link and got a cant find server message..
 
We are almost done with Build 13, which will be released this weekend. All downloads are available from my site (link in my signature) including the installation order.
