Nigel Blythe Quest

I started another game and the Blythe Quest hangs again: <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Now I landed on Conceicao and had to kill Harry's ship - a pirate corvette - for Blythe. When entering the ship there is nobody onboard and my char just can't move. - nothing happens.

You should have been able to capture it and assign Nigel as it's captain.

If not, it is not a bug in the quest itself but might be part of the "boarding bugs" people have been reporting.

Hmm thanks. I managed the quest with a trick.

<!--coloro:#FFFFCC--><span style="color:#FFFFCC"><!--/coloro-->Is it necessary to kill Blythe on the Douwesen wreck? I would like to have him as officer due to his stats. Now I have another useless boatswain instead. I have no use for melee chars. I need cannoneers and sailors for my ships. Furthermore I lost the second ship Blythe was captain of. Therefore imho the quest reward is very tiny and not worth the trouble. Is this the general solution of this quest?<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc-->

Thanks for answering that.<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I don't think there is a way to make him an officer again.

As for money, let's see, I got the Shaggy Harry's Pirate Corvette, Pirate 7's Privateer, and all the silver that you would have gotten saving Voysey.

Two ships with combined base value of 210,000 plus the silver, I'd say it was very profitable.

You did notice all the silver, right?

Also, the new code changed the resale value of ships captured so you only get 20%, but you can change that in "InternalSettings.h" file
#define SHIPYARD_PIRATEDSHIP_SELL_MULT

I do that, seeing as with a LOM and capturing Pirate ships, there is no reason not to call ownership of such a captured ship just as "LEGIT" as if I had bought it.

If that would be right than I would like to agree with you but:

In my Nigel-quest there was a bug which made it impossible to capture the corvette at Conceicao. I had to sink it and bought a new ship for Nigel...70k away. The smuggler privateer was taken by Nigel and disappeared. So I've spent a lot trouble and 70k for 50k and a quad-pistol. However, I was only curiuos about killing Nigel. Despite his character I liked him since he acted like a real pirate.<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

What can I say? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />
You buy that "good for nothing" Nigel a ship, you loose money. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Seriously, your problem really was that boarding problem at the beginning which is not a quest bug but a gameplay bug.
I'd go back to that point and try to capture that ship again.

Are you using Build 13 with update 2?

Yes I do. I tried to capture severel times. The deck is empty and my char can't move. Nevertheless its ok. I just want to know if I could get Blythe back in my team.

Thanks again. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

This is disturbing. I know it worked with update 1.

Can anyone else verify that the Nigel Quest no longer works ... again?

Pieter?

It works, but not the way it is supposed to do.<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> I can finish it by buying/capturing a ship for Nigel.

Maybe it is another issue related to my german POTC version....

I can't confirm it; I still never ever played it beyond actually starting it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

EDIT:
I use a trick now: I buy a new ship and make blythe captain...then Douwesen works. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /><!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

The "missing captain" isn't recognized because of an incorrect character model. So, when you board the "Mean Harry / Shaggy Gary / Mean Garry" Pirate Corvette off Conceicao, you cannot move and are stuck. Here's how to fix it:

FYI - I'm using Build 13 update 3, but this should work for other versions as well.

Open this file in a text editor:
PROGRAM/Characters/init/TempQuestCharacters.c

The error is on line 14 (in build 13 update 3).

Change the last line:
<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->    makeref(ch,Characters[n]);    // Ethilrede Claar - ïèðàò, êîòîðûé ïðîäàë â ðàáñòâî îäíîãî èç íàøèõ îôèöåðîâ () Leborio Drago
    ch.old.name = "Ethilrede";
    ch.old.lastname = "Dubois";
    ch.name = LanguageConvertString(tmpNameFileID,"Ethilrede");
    ch.lastname = LanguageConvertString(tmpNameFileID,"Dubois");
    ch.id        = "Ethilrede Claar";
    ch.model = "corsar2";<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->

to this...
<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->    makeref(ch,Characters[n]);    // Ethilrede Claar - ïèðàò, êîòîðûé ïðîäàë â ðàáñòâî îäíîãî èç íàøèõ îôèöåðîâ () Leborio Drago
    ch.old.name = "Ethilrede";
    ch.old.lastname = "Dubois";
    ch.name = LanguageConvertString(tmpNameFileID,"Ethilrede");
    ch.lastname = LanguageConvertString(tmpNameFileID,"Dubois");
    ch.id        = "Ethilrede Claar";
    ch.model = "corsair2";<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->

Basically, this looks like a typo (corsar2 instead of corsair2). Took me about five hours to track down the problem, but it now works.

It works with the change I posted above - if you play it along the main quest timeline, i.e., your first visit to QC is the search for Rheims. I haven't been able to get it to work by visiting QC earlier than that - Nigel never seems to leave the ship at Redmond (and hence will never leave at Conceicao either). He actually is a decent sailing officer in that case...

It works perfectly well in my game!
Once you pick him up in QC, you sail off to Conceicao, make sure he's a Passenger,
before you land there!
He will walk into town and you go to the Tavern and talk to the Owner about him,
go up to the room to find the dead man, get yourself arrested, go to court than go into
the jungle to find him halfdead. Kill the Pirates wanting to do him harm and he will get
up and tell you about the treasure! Now all you have to do is "pick" it up and be a rich man! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

Sure made a booboo there! Time for bed!

You guys are lucky or at least persistent ...lol...I always kill the guy attacking the Nav....then I get the nav put him in a Tartane as a captain and attack something so he gets sunk . Its not that I take sadistic glee..although there may be some glee invloved...I don't think its sadistic..it just like with the canon guy from prison...they suck...really bad...and require more work to keep than to kill / have killed...one game I most likely will follow the story just to do it....I just have to restrain myself from laughing maniacally while they be blown into chum bits for the fish .

BTW ..I search the taverns for the leather Clad wench to make me capatain...her and the redhead ...I must depart as its very tiring to type with this jacket on and I can hear them coming to give me more meds...fare thee well for now,,,bwaaahahahaahahahaa....I'll be back .

you madman. anyway, i usually arrange an accident for them when they've given me their stuff. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> 50000 gold and a quad-barrel pistol for voysey, and all that other stuff from edgar. i never managed to do his quest though. i only know that it's there. with voysey, i usually fire him and kill him right after he tells me the secret.

Thanks a lot for that fix, Kevin!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />

Ahoy! I landed on Oxbay and Nigel buy that chocolate. Later when I afford chocolate to merchant and landed on Conceicao Nigel again defected from my ship. Where is he on Conceicao? I can't find him!
