Thangs Fred Bob Has Wondered About:

* Has anybody e'er managed tew git on top o' a buildin'?

* Can ye ever jump overboard?

* How does ye git tew dat swingin' bridge on FD?

Actually, it's a good spot to direct your battle, if you are only shooting from one side of your ship.

<!--`QuoteBegin-Fred_Bob`+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Fred_Bob)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->* In port, ye kin sometimes walk up on ladders layin' on their sides or cargo![/quote]Yep, done that. I try all sorts of things when running around in the town or jungle - in Redguard you could go ANYWHERE - and I just keep hoping to find some "secret" thing no one else has found. I also tend to try to SWIM everywhere I can, just to see if there's more secret caves or dungeons.

<!--`QuoteBegin-Fred_Bob`+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Fred_Bob)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->* When ye be seein' a Damsel in Distress in de Jungle, draw yer sword an' immediately start wackin' de thugs! I've often wondered about that empty office next to the Townhall on IM. You can go in there and find (usually) a double shot pistol, but there's never anyone in there - and it LOCKS itself at night. Mysterious...

There are NO "people" locators there, only candles. Nice room, totally empty...

I love walking around the backs of houses. Sometimes you find the most interesting things! I found a Master Spyglass on FdF one day. VERY nice surprise.

Has anyone noticed the lovely flowers planted in the yard next to the Townhall on FdF?

Ever wonder why you can *hear* animals (like a goat, for instance) but not see them?

There are tiny fish in the water. Look over the side of your ship to see them. You don't see them often, but they are there.

When you go into an (I think) English church (the one on Redmond, I believe), the ambient noise includes someone sneezing. If you time it right, you can hear the sneeze and talk to the padre, who says (audibly), "Bless you, my child." <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" /> Like you were the one who sneezed! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Have you ever taken a look at the bulkheads on an underdeck of a ship you have boarded and are fighting your way through? I love it that the Akella artists have made it look like straw or rope chinking in the cracks. Nice touch. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

In Conceicao when you enter the actual town and go on the bridge to the left it is possible to jump onto the roof of the building. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Harr! Great stuff! Cain't wait tew try bridge jumping at Conceicao! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

When I get back from sea, usually after having captured some enemy ships, I will make my character walk backwards from his starting point to the end of the pier and at the egde of the pier I keep walking backwards and I have my "Michael Jackson Moonwalk" Victory Dance, usually accompanied by me singing, "Billie Jean is not my lover...," in a falsetto voice and inserting the occasional, "Eee, hee hee!"

I wanted to get a picture of this with the Maltese Knight Costume, but the camera angles have changed and I can't get a "facing my character view" anymore, so you'll have to use your imaginations.

I know many others have mentioned doing this, but after a fight in the jungle when my crewmates and the previously unremovable Danielle put away their swords and became invincible, I would frequently shoot them and hit them with my sword, saying, "Bad crewmen! Bad! Bad!"

I haven't noticed whether or not the build has toned down this feature, but the first time I ever went into the jungles, and saw the butterflies larking about, I thought to myself, "Man, this is a Disney game, isn't it." Not that I dislike the wildlife in the game, I think it is great, but on those occasions that I go into a jungle area with no encounter, but lots of butterflies, I start singing Snow White's song, "I'm wishing..." complete with echos. On more than one occasion this has prompted Lady Mings to come to the door and say, "What the hell are you doing in there?" Dear creature, you'd think she'd be used to it by now.

I have to try that getting onto a roof in Concei.. Concai..., the Portugese island, that I have not tried.

Fed Bob, Lady Catalina is right, you would love Redguard, it has a lot of "try this and if that doesn't work, try this", kind of `Zork-like` problems to solve. (Am I the only one here who played Zork? I played Pong too!)
<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" />

(he's the same one who did the Gregor Salmsa dialog) LOL!!!

Sirus, I have GOT to try that rooftop thing on Conceicao.

And Sir Christopher, I have gotten that butterfly thing, just recently, on Isla Muelle. Just try landing at Oyster Bay and fighting your way through the smugglers on the path towards town. After all that furious fighting, I went through the last portal that leads to the back gate and was suddenly awash with butterflies! It was like confetti, or a tickertape parade... Whew, took me by surprise, or I'd have gotten a screen shot. It was pretty funny after all that fighting...

Best part, I had my sword still drawn, so I annihilated the little insects! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

I was quite surprised when I first saw the lizards in the jungle. I now find myself repeatedly running towards them to make them scurry off. It's a great touch. I love the wildlife in it... the birds, butterflies, large sea animals.. I haven't seen the small fish though. Haven't looked.

The ghostly dogs barking in town have gotten the attention of my dog on more than one occasion.

Okay.. here is my big question. Is it actually possible to sail from one island to another in "sea" mode.. and has anyone actually done it? I've been tempted to try.. mainly because everything looks so good and I just love the music you hear while leaving harbor.

In Morrowind, you can literally go from one end of the map to the other and over every mountain with minimal (and almost unnoticable) load times from one area to the next. There are no frustrating invisible "walls" in the game. So I was just wondering if the sea in PotC was the same way. I know it's not that way on land! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ib012.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cry" border="0" alt="ib012.gif" />

Oh.. and if you could.. would you run into any other ships at all?

Thanx <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" />

Someone actually did try sail'n tew another island widout use'n de world map an it took em four days an I'd not be talk'n game time <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Hmm, I tried sailing from Redmond to Oxbay without going to map mode. I aimed my ship on the right heading then put the game at 30x time. I don't think it is posible to do it because the game loads each island seperately. I also tried the same thing after I figured how close you can get before you hear "Land ho!" on the map, tried sailing towards the island on 30x speed again, but never got anywhere <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Speaking of detail, I noticed moths flying around the lamps at night <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="8)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" />

I'm still enjoying the picture in my head of Lady Catalina doing a `Ninja-Shrimp` number on an attacking troop of butterflies. Remind me never to surprise you.

Lady Catalina, I had an experience in POTC that sounded a little like what you encountered when you were Beta testing the build; where 60 or so Smugglers would suddenly up and surrender to you. I was in the Redmond Dungeon and started encountering unarmed smugglers, and thinking that they just wanted to talk I held off going postal on them. There were armed smugglers interspersed among the unarmed ones, so I just kept on playing.

By the time I got all the way around the dungeon I had about a dozen of them following me around and getting in the way of the armed ones. I tried giving them some of the swords that I had taken from their compatriots, but they just stood around and shifted their weight from one foot to the other. (It made me wonder if the lack of facilities in the dungeon was causing their anxious behavior.) The game played fine otherwise, so it doesn't appear to be a destructive bug, but I decided to get a group picture that I will post in the Build 11 Bug thread tomorrow. (I forgot to bring it today.)

Poor little butterflys.... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ib012.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cry" border="0" alt="ib012.gif" />:

I know, Fred Bob, I found that out. Darn, it would have made a funny pic, especially if I could catch them all jumping down from the roof after me! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Sir Christopher, about those unarmed smugglers - don't try to kill them because your rep will take a hit - and if they're armed but not drawing their swords, don't strike them or they'll all draw their swords at once... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" /> Hey, that could be fun, haha!!! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Actually, the first time I discovered these unarmed guys, there were only two, and they followed me all around the whole dungeon. I just left them alone and killed off the armed ones - then walked to the door, thinking, hey, I'll get some kind of reward for "rescuing" them from being lost in the dungeon... But they stayed in the dungeon. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blah:" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

That jump onto the roof maneuver will definitely come in handy. Isla Muelle is the place that I will usually try to do a Redguard Rampage because it has so much space to run around in. Whenever I take the notion, I'll determine that I have had too much ol' Snakebite Brew and kill an innocent passerby and then run around town killing anyone that is armed and the regenerating guards. I've noticed that lately the regenerated guards are in such a hurry to get to me that they forget to bring their weapons and just follow me around.

POTC doesn't let me do a true Redguard Rampage so I've had to draw upon my past experiences to make up the deficiency. When I was growing up, my brothers, I have five of them, and my father would play hide and seek, only we would arm ourselves with toy guns and refer to the game as "Cowboy hide and seek", one side making up the posse and the other a band of desperadoes. The posse would seek out the offending cowboys, and then we would spend the rest of the evening arguing over who had gotten whom. (My father was a big cheater, he never got hit.)

In Isla Muelle, though I suppose any of the towns would do, I will play a version of this
and try to "hide" until the guarda catch up to me and then come out `a-blastin`'. The pistol reload feature on Build 11 adds a new layer of excitement to this game.

I'm aware that doing this can have a debilitating effect on my reputation, but I leave you with these words of advice, "What happens in an unsaved game, stays in an unsaved game."
