hello again. Well, earlier I put the idea of attacking the french fleet & then attacking Oxley & taking the town, prior to the main quest where you kill the 2 french guards and enter the town to talk to the french sea captain.
I wondered if I would have to kill my own guards!
Well, I am back with the answer. Two answers actually, both disappointing.
First, after many naval engagements, I have discovered that the french fleet have an immortality fix in the program. `Ha-ha`! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
Second, I took the Isle Muelle fort on with a MOW to see what happpens if I had ever of got past the french fleet at Oxley. I won the battle, & was transported into the fort, & here there was a few treasure chests to open.
Then I went to the town. Although populated by people in the street, all the guards were gone, and storekeeper/shipwright/governor/tavernkeeper had all run off.
So there is ABSOLUTELY NO POINT in victory over a port fortress that I can see. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
By the way, I did this in the original game after uninstalling the build `12-1`. The build started stalling. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_twisted.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_twisted.gif" />
I have since read in this forum to install build 11 first, and then build `12-1`. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />
I will try this after I complete the game in the original version.
Thanks. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

When you capture a town, everybody disappeares, that's not a bug. However, the VC mod (By the `mod-conqueror` CouchcaptainCharles) interferes with this, so you can see the characters added in the VC mod. They don't disappear, THAT's a bug. <!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->I have discovered that the french fleet have an immortality fix in the program. `Ha-ha`! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />  <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->Actually, no, they're just much harder to kill than the other ships. And, they're not boardable. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/diomed.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dio" border="0" alt="diomed.gif" />

I don't think the VC mod when the town is vacant is necessarily a bug... When a REAL town is lawless (no military or police), there are looters and thugs running around everywhere! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Well, I didn´t actually do it, but it happened to me just yesterday:
I was already at war with the English thanks to His Excelleny Silehead when I came across an English Corvette. I felt a bigger ship was called for anyways by now, so i took it. It turned out to sail under the name "Surprise" - which was a funny thing, because the night before I had watched Master & Commander once again. But it got even better: I encountered a sea battle between French warships and Dutch merchants. The Dutch were of little interest, but the Frenchman was: A frigate named, you guessed it, "Acheron".

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" /> Wow, that just HAD to be rigged!!! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

i don´t think so, I already came across a lugger named "Acheron" and a Galleon named "Surprise", they´re both in random shipnames. Kinda funny accident, though.

Yes, I know it's random. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> It IS a funny coincidence, I agree. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Two really idiotic things you can do in PotC:
1) Take a "sink the pirate quest" from a governor and complete it. Then go to ANOTHER governor (preferrably the enemy of the first) and collect the reward from HIM! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
2) Ask a `would-be` new officer of yours how good he really is. You can now change his/her outfit, even when not hiring. Funniest thing: Find yourself a `would-be` officer sitting in a tavern and give him the Bilgemunkey skeleton skin (Post Build 12 skin by Catalina). You'll end up having a skeleton sitting in a tavern. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

The "sink the pirate" is really good!
One thing, I wonder if it was just an accident: I started a new game and skipped the Malcolm scene, but forgot to buy the common spyglass. A while later I came back to Oxbay (and had a common spyglass bought somewhere else) and found Malcolm standing there in front of the shipyard. Guess what: I got the quests (ship repair, sell the stuff etc.) and when I went to get a new spyglass, the shop owner offered me a masterpiece glass <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" />

If you want, you can have up to four "Mephisto"- class ships: Capture her in the Animist quest and maker her your ship, then accept pirate hunting missions. The pirate generated will have exactly the same ship you are using.

Ah, that last one is great, Grimm! Heh... There's only one... ...err... FOUR Mephistos! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

Update

I´m afraid getting more than one Mephisto class ship does not work any more with build 12, as you do not get any longer an opposite using the same ship as you do.

I think it depends upon how your game is set - if you've told your men you want ALL sightings, you'll probably get a different opponent in the Pirate Hunting `mini-quest`. If you're at the default, you'll probably get the same type of ship that you are sailing.
