They still have those lights in the gameplay demos at Playlogic's site. But I also wonder if they could be removed somehow...

(I'd also like to see night battles a bit harder. You should not see icons above enemy ships telling you where they are in the darkness. In fact, fighting in the dark should be very hard and nervewracking, indeed.)

The ship lights cannot be deactivated ingame. But there is a shiplights.ini and other lighting related ini files, so i guess its possible to modify this. I actually like the stern laterns.

and only landlubbers would ask to keep the kind of inland that was in POTC :p<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Like Captain Python has correctly pointed out so many times before, don't expect historical accuracy out of games. So much for being able to sack Panama and Puerto Principe (which could only be done by overland action, back in the day...) <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="<_<" border="0" alt="dry.gif" />
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

So? How many times did you sack Panama in POTC? The question is -- why on earth do you need "inland" if you won't be able to sack anything "by overland action" anyway?

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->I can't say I'm a landlubber. After all, I am studying to become a sailor.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

You know....there's always TES: Morrowind where you have all the inland in the world, why don't you try that instead of trying to turn a seafaring game into landlubber's paradise? Pirates are supposed to hunt for merchants at sea, not for butterflys in jungles.

We want inland....you know...a pirate's hideout ......and Hey mates don't start a fight!...hehe <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

And also.....Akella should put some kind of a story mission so the game wouldn't be soo boring after the game....no offense m8ts

ahoy vassal, good to see you here. since you are a potc modding guru mind if i ask you something? which file and command in potc controls how fast you move up in the military ranks/titels? i checked all ini files in aop, but found nothing. even after completing 18 missions for spain that darn governor wont give any promotion. the manual says that the number of successful mission determines your rank/titel.
maybe they used the same filenames and/or commands for this in aop.

agreed, the inland adds to the overall atmosphere. i also miss the shores where you can land and make your way to a townentrance if that given town is hostile to you. in aop you sail to a hostile island and activate the sneak into town button from the sailing modus, thus teleporting you directly into town. its functional and saves a lot of time, but it leaves the "sneaking" part to your imagination.
now the towns are very functional and somewhat reduced to a restocking facility and mission terminal. i hope you modders will drop some memorable characters on the islands.

Evil parrot....I can't answer your question for the moment because I don't have AOP yet....sorry..

that was a misunderstanding, the question refered to POTC. do you know which file/command controls the military ranks/titels in POTC?
i was hoping the programmers used similiar filenames/commands in AOP, so i can modify this myself.

If you use Build 12: You should get a Letter of Marquee and start sinking ships enemy to the country you're working for. That'll quickly improve your rank. You should talk with the governor every now and then and he will tell you when you're up for promotion.

Don't forget, guys, you're not playing a game, you're playing a beta-version, that's what you get from Akella if you happen to live in Russia. Not getting a promotion in ranking is one of those bugs, which they mention on forums. When you patch the game, some bugs get fixed and some don't and then there are bugs that pop up only after you aply the patch.

Is that part of the excitement <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Will be interesting to se it here, and see if playlogic clamped down on it a bit.

Aye - i learned this one the hard way..after 5 successful missions without a promotion i was still cheerful, after 10 missions there was this nagging doubt, after 15 missions i kept telling me "you are doing this for the spanish crown and not for yourself, so hang on" but after 20 missions without a promotion i gave up and babelfish-ed the russian forums, only to find out that you dont get any promotion with the latest patch.
..waiting for the "final" patch now <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

LOL, you're a die hard, evil_parrot <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
I believe some might think at this point that even though the game is buggy as hell, it's still two months before foreign release and surely the russians will iron out those bugs, won't they? Well, this "no promotion" patch kinda gives you something to think about. Seems like we have a case of extremely lame programming, and these patches either don't fix bugs properly or even worse -- they break things that did work before. Remember, this is the FOURTH patch in a row and the game is still unplayable. It still makes you give it up. Akella is battling it's own creation -- lame game engine. They still have two more months to go, but if you ask me -- my money is on the engine <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
