Patch 1.42 and the problems that come with it

Cyberops

Landlubber
Ok i been testing the patch up and down and even had a debugger run right next to it to see how it was going.

Well not good, i dont even recommend using this patch because there are more problems coming from it then that it solves.

1. AI Ship sometimes seem to have the option to keep firing cannongs without the need to reload, they just keep at it and don't even loose any amount.

2. Sound problems got worse.

3. The nodvd patch is not compatible with it and to make matters worse they added the startforce crap to more files in the modules folder.

4. Sometime when u encounter enemy ships they seem to be in godmode as u can not do any damage to them. As example i had a MOW and tried to sink a fleut well after firing at it for 15 minutes real time they still had no damage what so ever and just kept sailing along.

and then there are the mysterious ships that seem to be able to sail on land all of a sudden, im just saying there is some weird shit going on in this patch that was offiously not well tested.

And u end up with more starforce crap on your pc which makes the entire game even more unstable.

I actually had high hopes of this patch but it was a big disappointment so far, how does one loose faith in a company well this is the way.

So a lot more bugs come with this patch so for me it's back to the original game before it was patched.

Ye larned all dat in less than 3-1/2 hours?! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

yeah imagine what happens if i play it even longer who knows what other bugs come up lol

Anyway, im gonna take the fixes that do work and the model enhancements of the islands and import them into the super mod, so im gonna be doing a lot of modifying to the mod and import everything that is good from the patch, so everyone that wants to use the mod will also have the working fixes out of the patch, however im not gonna redo the entire mod to make it work with a patch that brakes more then it fixes. LEt's see if they make a better working patch next time and actually take the starforce crap out which in this case can cause problems with a lot of sound effects.

Just one more question i would love to ask to akella is i wonder is why add so many files to the patch that where not even modified in any way, not even half of the patch files been actually edited or modified.

Sounds like you are running into a lot of the same problems that folks over on Playlogic's forums have been saying. Sounds like some interesting stuff was added with this patch, but hella more was busted.

And they went and added even more starfarce checks on top of it all.

I hope this is just a teaser and their just pulling our leg while they make a good patch but sadly I fear it doesn't look good. Playlogic why have you betrayed us! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

officer i added the good things to the mod so all good will be in there <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Aye, Fred Bob counted 308 files total in the patch, 45 of which are either new files or modified files. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":huh" border="0" alt="huh.gif" /> Them 45 new or changed files make up 95% of the total size of the patch, so the additional 5% taken up by the 263 unchanged files be pretty negligible! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> Just means they found it easier to include some of the sub-folders intact rather than singling out individual files! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

We'll be lucky to get one more "official" patch before being cast adrift. I doubt there is a budget for anything more than that. And with all the terrible reviews blowing the game out of the water, sales figures will likely be down with Davey Jones. Even less incentive for any further patches, I'm thinking.
And with official patches not really fixing anything anyway, AND being Starforce-infested, folks like Cyberops will be our best hope for salvaging the game, IMHO...

Well i managed to get 133 bugs fixed myself which akella could have easily done, if only they took the time to listen when i said where to look. Geez i would be pleased to help them out if needed just to deliver a good patch but oh well i gues i'll be making me own patches lol

Anyways i took all the good out of the patch and added my 133 bug fixes to it and it all will be added to the supermod.

Im putting as much time into as i can but im also working on my own Pirate Simulator game which also takes a lot of time., and all the other projects we have going along with it such as our operating system and then some. Since it's getting close to the end of the year and we also release a few programs we made by the end of the year it's always getting hectic during the last 3 months of the year lol

As long as you know how much your work is appreciated.
You have the upper hand here, since you have a direct relation with the consumers (hell, you ARE one). You know what we want, while Akella has tons of things to worry about. All the other games they have in production, for example.

I recently updated to the new patch but have not installed the super-mod yet. I am wondering if the mod works with the new patch or do i need to reinstall to the original version to use it.

Cyberops , is it possible for you to release a mod that just contains the 133 odd bugs that you have fixed please ?

PS hi all <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

I will see what i can do making a patch only available to, that includes bug fixes and that will include the 4 bug fixes out of the official patch, however the supermod actually did almost only do bug fixing and yeah it added the jungles and opened a lot of option the game should have enabled to begin with, but if there are enough people that do not like mods but only want bug fixes then it is something im definatly willing to do. IF there is enough interest.

super mod works only Without the Patch.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

So just to clarify: If we want the good parts of the patch and Cyberops fixes to it , we should NOT install the new patch and wait for the updated supermod?

yes, the supermod v.1.1 u have to completely download, it's a big one that is true i will upload it to filefront either today or tomorrow and it will also be uploadded to rapidshare where u can download it as multiple .rar files.

After this big release i will try to deliver as many possible small update downloads.

Another funky thing is that they updated the program.dat file but all they did was take files out that are needed in the game so if your game is asking for certain files and crashes then that will be one of the problems, i dunno what they been doing there but it wasn't just bug fixing it was creating more bugs. It's almost as if they don't want us customers to play the game. If it wasn't for the fact that the game is so moddable i would have sold it again long time ago, without even to think again about buying a new game from them.
