Patch 1.42 and the problems that come with it

Another funky thing is that they updated the program.dat file but all they did was take files out that are needed in the game so if your game is asking for certain files and crashes then that will be one of the problems, i dunno what they been doing there but it wasn't just bug fixing it was creating more bugs. It's almost as if they don't want us customers to play the game. If it wasn't for the fact that the game is so moddable i would have sold it again long time ago, without even to think again about buying a new game from them.

Amen brother, if it wasn't for your modding efforts, this game would already be in my trash pile. I like Akella's game ideas; not many companies making seafaring games. But support has always been terrible. You get 1 or 2 patches for a game, and that's it. I guess the publishers won't pay them to do any more than that.
I am wondering whether to get "Captain Blood" now though. I hope it will be as moddable as AoP if it turns out to be half-baked also..

Fellow Seamen, Privateers and Pirates!!

Please, do remember that Akella hasn't a damned thing to do with putting SF into thier game. That is entirely at the feet of thier publishers.

I've owned and played basically every one of Akella's sailing games over the years. Some good, some bad but every damned one of them were fun.

Thats why we keep coming back when we know it's Akella thats doing the game. They are the only developer on the planet who have made and continue to make games about the Age of Sail. Every one of us here play them because its an attractive, romantic period that we all love getting to play games about.

So, I say remember to give Akella thier due for making the game at all, and give the publishers a boot up thier arses for screwing the pooch with thier useless 'anti-pirate' measures.

Cap'n Drow

Aye.....yew be right thar Cap'n_Drow. Still there are those that would have us ban all games with SF, and they be right....but this would hurt Akella anyway, and were back to square one again......tis a vicious circle tew be sure

yeah, but akella never really fixes anything with patches. POTC and Age of Pirates I think will forever CTD....they can't seem to fix whatever causes it in the engine....and whats frustrating is the patches they release focus on decorative things....I have never seen a game put on the market with as many CTD's across all platforms as this engine does...and akellas solution is to make it prettier. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

choose your words with care the first game Sea Dogs, was in the end fixed, and all Major bugs fixed.
All in good time, remember this is still a fairly young game, in fact, it is brand new on the international market. as for PoTC, Akella have no reason to fix PoTC, and nor should they want to. PoTC was ruined when the mouse with big ears poked its dirty nose in.

You got that right. Thanks to Mickey Rat, our anxiously awaited Sea Dogs 2 got turned into a crappy movie tie-in. And we're still waiting...
