Patch !!!!

Cyberops

Landlubber
im glad to say that we are willing to make a patch to fix some of the problems still located in this game which should have been fixed by akella and playlogic but they don't.

Anyways what do we need.

We need the following things from you.

1. List all the bugs that you encounter
2. Let us know if you use the game with or without mods, if you play with mods let us know which ones, this includes singles ships, clothing, flags etc.
3. if you do not use mods, let us know what patch you have installed.
4. We need a Dxdiag so we can compare systems.
5. if the game crashes let us know how and where the game crashed so basicly what you where doing the moment it happened.
6. basicly we need all the info you can give.

what will we do, we are going to collect as much info as we can and go from there. We will try to recreate the bugs, crashes etc. mentioned and fix it if possible. and yeah it's free lol

If possible and allowed you can attach dxdiag and such to your post, or upload it somewhere anyway you want it.

does this patching include adding some of the content that was in the game but turned off, or just bugfixing?

there is either no one with problems anymore or no one is playing the game anymore, so i gues there is no need for a patch anymore.

The main bug I've been encountering is random crashes to desktop. I can't really give a detailed list of where it crashes - basically, almost anywhere. In recent memory, it's happened while walking round town, while auto-saving the game prior to a boarding battle, and just after getting killed but before the grave screen could be shown.

This is AoP with Supermod plus all five updates installed over a clean install from DVD with no additional patches. I don't have a Dxdiag handy but I can tell you my PC has a 2.4GHz Intel Pentium 4, 512MB RAM, and a Gigabyte GV N76G256D-RH graphics card (Gigabyte's version of the nVidia GeForce 7600 GS).

Additional bugs which, with help from the forum, I've fixed in my own installation:
. Capture screen shows no ship data. Whichever item of cargo is selected for transfer, it gives the French for "cannon balls". You can't see how much of an item is being discarded by moving the "Discard" slider. Fixed by copying the version of "Program\interface\ransack_main.c" from the official version 1.50 into the current installation.

. When you approach a colony which is being attacked by someone else, a message full of odd characters, probably Russian, appears. Fixed by editing "Program\interface\AskForHelp.c" to replace the text in "void CalculateInfoData()" with something more meaningful. (I got that tip from Cep in the thread <a href="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=9848" target="_blank">Govenor Message</a>.)

You could be right, People have been putting up with a load of bugs for such a long time!
.........and nobody to fix it!
I stopped playing it for that very reason! However, I'll make an Effort to have a go as soon as tomorrow. My main complaint would be the CTD fom Battlescreens and the F2 menu
being crappy. See if I can find the Error.log and will report soon!
I noticed also, that bugs have been reported in your forum!! No punt intended and appreciate your willingness and effort to try to fix things!!
I also noted a lot of bugs being reported in the Playlogic forum under the Supermod heading.
As you can see in my Signature that I've got both SM and Patch 1.5 and find that the Patch is more stable than the SM, which tells me that a lot of
bugs where introduced by the SM. So, there must be fixes which the SM either does'nt have or was overritten. Cheers

But I can confirm that Supermod has overwritten at least one fix in version 1.50. When I first started playing AoP, with basic version 1.41 plus NoCD patch, I occasionally noticed that sometimes at night, the lights of another ship would become "detached" - as I looked around in 1st person view, the lights would move as well. This stopped happening when I installed the version 1.50 patch, and in fact I forgot about it until I reinstalled the game, installed the Supermod, and started seeing it again.

My biggest issue is with supermod and random crashing when you change screens or enter or exit battle.

I dont play the official version anymore. Or actually I have not been playing it . I have been waiting for SM bug fixes.

Bug fixes for the supermod can take a bit longer simply because the Pirate Simulator takes up most of our time, we are like working 5 to 8 hours a day on it and then still do some other work next to that, so we make long days developing.

This error log was created after Battlescreen CTD.
It must have had a few problems with Dialogs before that.
These Crashes are very regular!
Only sometimes do I get thru a Battle without a Crash and that does'nt
happen in Patch 1.5!! I've played 1.5 for hours at a time and did'nt get any CTD!

A few more minor bugs in the Supermod:

. In the Characters screen, when you look at a character's Items, different types of items can be enabled or disabled in the display - blades, pistols etc. "Telescopes" is in a foreign language, possibly Polish - I know it's "Telescopes" because those are all that's left if I disable everything else. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

. In the jungle, you occasionally meet thugs who want to attack you but can't because they have no energy. If you kill one, your reputation suffers.

. After you win a deck boarding battle and go to duel the enemy captain, the loading screen is for a tavern.

. In the original game, when you learn from a tavern rumour that a colony is under attack, a red cross appears next to that colony on the "paper" map. This does not happen in the Supermod. (I don't know if it still appears when one of <i>your</i> colonies is under attack because I haven't been playing the main quest since installing the Supermod. But in the original game the red cross appears even if a nation's colony is under attack, e.g. if the French are attacking St. Kitts. There was no red cross when the French attacked St. Kitts during my Supermod game.)

. At dawn, the sun rises in the west. The eastern sky is lighter but the sun is in the darker western sky. This happened when I was running original version 1.41, version 1.50 and still when I'm running the Supermod. It happened when I had my old Geforce Ti 4200 graphics card and still happens with my new Geforce 7600 GS.

Note to Cyberops: I appreciate that your own game comes first and look forward to seeing it. But you did ask for bug reports. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> Thanks for continuing to support the Supermod!

If it says "teleskopy" then yes, it is in Polish <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Again this is just bug fixing for the original game no supermod installed, bug fixes for the supermod will be done to but at a later stage.

No, "Podztruby". It could be Russian, but where (I assume) Russian appears elsewhere, e.g. in comments and in the occasional message in game, it's illegible because it's probably using the Cyrillic character set.

On second thoughts, it probably is Russian with the English character set. I've just tried looking for "Podztruby" in Google, and when that turned up nothing, I tried looking for "Podztrub". That found a number of websites in Russian advertising telescopes. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

Ah, so someone finally figured out what that Podztruby was. Glad to see that and here's to hoping it gets fixed. **grins**

Now, that's a <i>good </i>request for a patch.

Only thing i've noticed is the officer system in 1.5, when you hire one from the tavern you got only 3 left for that town, and they don't regenerate(so thats 4 officers total for every town).
