Yes, I cheated to get those stats, but I'm sick to death of having to play a weakling character when there are guys like this running around:

<a href="http://img191.imageshack.us/my.php?image=talentedlowres.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/2012/talentedlowres.th.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a>

So yeah, I could've gone even higher. In fact I will in my next game.

Maspero was my talented officer <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />.
Do you intend to make a char with his stats ?
Look at him at lvl 24:<a href="http://img268.imageshack.us/i/maspero.jpg/" target="_blank"><img src="http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/5008/maspero.th.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a>

Btw , I've noticed that the way you play (things you do more) influences your development and your officers development(a lot) too.
I mean it's like a pattern - they follow the same development tree.
In my case almost everybody has big navigation and gunnery even if that wasn't their biggest skill at origins.

By looking at your stats I can tell you boarded and sold a lot of ships.
I like to sunk them instead.
And the difference can be seen up to some point in the way your stats are.

Nah, I won't go <i>that</i> overboard. By default you have 42 stat points, which is just enough to bring all your stats to 6. That <i>seems</i> above average, but the minimum a stat can be is 3, not 1, so it's actually below average. I gave myself an extra 7 stat points to even that out a bit, and I think I'll give myself another 7 in my next game, for a total of 56. Which, considering that this guy has 61, still isn't all that much IMO.
And yeah, officers do share your xp. As for navigation in particular, I think it has a lot to do with how fast your ship is. I had the damnedest time training it early on, but once I got the Bluebird it skyrocketed.

Open up the file RPGutilite.c in a text editor and find the line that says ch.Skill.FreeSPECIAL = 0; (it's line #2152). Change that zero to whatever you want and the next character you create will have the specified number of free stat points for you to distribute.
You can also presumably edit the ch.skill.freeskill = 0; line to give your starting character more skill points, although I haven't tried that. And a dude on Playlogic forums says you can even add these two lines:
ch.perks.FreePoints_ship = 0;
ch.perks.FreePoints_self = 0;
Which obviously add free ship and personal perk points you can spend.
