Post the questions about the CoAS here. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Playing as Blood, is it possible to get all four officers in the beginning? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" /> Yeah I agree.. me too wants more officers to join. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> But still.. gay Final Fantasy ripoff? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Mate, I couldn't have described it better. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" />

I`m totaly new in AoP. And got a lot of newbick questions <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I have a Brig now (I think its not so bad <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> ) and trying to become a pirate, but like I see pirates still attacks me, and in their islands looks like to an alien. How to make them trust me ?

And another question is where to get main quests ? I dont want to do those private missions for cents, I would better take over some ships and sell them than going to search for a ring or something like that. I heared that if I want to take over colony I have to complete some quest.

Yeah about joining with pirates.. I wanna know about it too. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Heh, it was made even worse by the fact that he was the first character I saw in the game. Here I am, waiting for this game, marking the days, biting my nails, then I finally get to play it and out pops <i>that</i>. I went "what the hell have you done to my game!?"
No, seriously, what is it with these people that they have to stick something inappropriate like that in the middle of an otherwise very stylistically clean period piece? AOP had that chick in the ludicrously skanky outfit (fortunately that one could easily be reverted to a less egregious coat wearing model) and now in COAS we have this guy. I mean... why?

Anyway, all I can say about pirates so far is that if I fly the jolly roger they seem to not attack me on the map. They still attack if I approach them in sailing mode, though.

And another question: What's with the "find spy" quest? I've looked everywhere, talked to everyone I could find. I get that they like to make their games hard, but <i>some</i> leads would be nice.

The main quest gives the most famous pirates.

Talk to the townspeople, if the dialogue is not a spy, a spy to look at any house, on the second floor can be too. If there is dialogue, then a spy among the townspeople.

yea tanks but if i talk to the merchant he only say get out

well i have a problem. i need the brander skill.

the skill you blow up ships with.. i am at that pirate quest where i need to kill this guy for henry morgan. but i can only use a sloop or a lugger.
and he have way more men than me and they are very strong.
i can only fit like 70-80 people on my sloop and he got maybe 200.. he also have that musket shooting skill that kills 20 of my men.
so a capure is VERY hard. i am playing on corsair level. it also impossible to thin out his numbers with a cannon battle. he outguns me and sinks my ass in no time.. my cannons have rarely any effect on his ship stats, no matter what kind of cannon balls i use.. its also hard to hit him.
but is sloop or a lugger the only ship i can use? or can i use a schooner? the schooner can fit more crew but its a lv 5 class ship and i am not sure that scum got the guts to face it.. but can i use 2 ships? like one to blow up at his side.. that have to kill someone..
so maybe i have a chance, but were can i find a bosun with that skill? i have tried MANY times in alot of different taverns. like every time you visit a tavern for the first time someone new is there so i loaded back alot too find a good bosun.. but i did not find any. i need one with the brander skill and maybe even the musket kill skill. any way to get this? maybe with some cheats or program folder tinkering <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />o)

help me plxx! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> this quest is so hard! and i want that awsome pirate ship!

Brander is not necessary. Your main character is not ready for this job. Develop skills. Low did not leave of Kumano. He attacks only to ships of Class 6 and 5. To kill Low will need good fencing.

haha well i think i will be able to take him if i removes most of his crew. so i can use a 5 class ship? nice. well i will need the brander skill and maybe this shot crew skill if my super awsome jack sparrow like pirate plan is going to work <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

okay blowing up a boat next to another is not that epic. but maybe i can blow up 2 ships! now we are talking! haha and maybe i can ram his ship with another big lv 5 ship. and use the "get to another boat" skill to a ship with the good crew when the big lv 5 ship is starting to sink. or well i guess blowing up is better to take out his crew, maybe a combo of these two ideas. ram and blow! then repeat until he is weak and very lonely! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> )

but do my main needs to be a high lv to hire bosuns with these skills?

okay this will get expensive. and my pirate char is a little poor. but this is why we got banks right! the new world have a lot of banks around so cash is not a problem! everything will be okay as long as i kill that scumbag and get his ship!

Oh boy, I don't like that sound of that. Speaking of characters being unready, any ideas on taking on the Bluebird? On my first try I had a corvette and managed to dismast it and pepper it with buckshot a bit, and after a lot of savescumming I even won the deck battle. But then there's the captain, and after he gutted me like a fish for the tenth time I gave up and started over. Now I'm level 8, playing on captain difficulty. I'd really like to have that ship. Any strategies or useful tips for that battle?

Hey guys,

been playing the game for a couple of days. I think I may or may not have discovered a bug. For some reason I have -3 modifiers on all my "PIRATES" stats and is therefore affecting all my other stats as well. As a result my guy is practically useless; he cant fight, he can hardly hire new guys, he has to pay a ridiculous salary to all the crew, and so on and so forth.

My question is how the hell did i get these -3 stat modifiers and how the hell do I get rid of them. I am guessing that it may have had to do with several visits to the brothel and the subsequent drop in reputation. But I still have no idea what is going on here??

Your ship is too big for you. Lemme guess, you're playing Blood and you kept the frigate, right? You'll need to settle for something smaller until you level up some. It's basically the game's way of making sure that you don't get too powerful too quickly.
Oh, and a little hint: When you sell the frigate, don't sell it right away. You have ridiculous penalties on your stats, so you won't get nearly any money for it. Buy a tartane as a second ship, then switch to it. That'll get rid of the penalties and you can get some 70k for the frigate (oddly enough you can't <i>command</i> a big ship yourself, but you can have as many of them as you want follow you around without penalty...). Coupled with the 25k cash you can carry away from Bridgetown you can afford to buy and equip a very decent small ship.
I really don't see why the game tells you in the beginning that Blood is a character for expert players. He gets all the breaks! The others start with a dinghy and a few nickles while Blood, after a couple of fetch quests and some fighting, starts the game with nearly a hundred thousand in cash or twenty five thousand and a bloody <i>frigate</i>! Boy am I glad I picked him! Would've had a hard time otherwise!
Also, remove the guns and sell them separately before selling the ship. You get more money that way.

Anyway, my turn again: Can anything be done about rats? They keep eating up my cargo, and frankly it's one of those gimmick features that are neat on paper but become just annoying in practice pretty quickly. I mean, come on! They eat my crew's weapons! I understand that rats eat almost anything, but I'm pretty sure swords made of iron are part of that "almost". I doubt there's any way to get rid of them in the game, but can they perhaps be turned off somehow in the game files (sorry, modding n00b here)?

@ Sordid

Cheers bro! appreciate the help.

About the rats, heard there was a rumor that if you hire some type of officer, like the bosun, they sort out the rat problem for you. Although I've also heard that it doesn't seem to work. That problem is bugging a lot of ppl. Anyways will look into it.

Nah-uh, I have a full complement of officers and the rat problem still persists. Now if only we could buy a few tons of cats in the store...

there is some totem in game, don't ask me where you find it however, but was listed in the ru cheats as an item code, the rat god totem which makes rats go away.

but rats need looked at period, my big wth moments came when they were apparently eating weapons on my ships.....and alot of them in each go. also find it rather unlikely they would be into the gunpowder tho it could be entertaining to see rats spontainously explode.

Hey, it's <i>pirate</i> rats. They're bloody hardcore. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
But yeah, if there's a trinket that gets rid of the rats then I'm willing to put up with them until I find it. Probably my biggest wth moment so far was the wonky reputation system. Apparently conning a con man is a heinous act. As is turning pirate captains in to authorities...
