Wait! Conning a con man is bad for your reputation? And your reputation also drops when you turn a pirate captain to the proper authorities? I can understand a reputation drop with the pirates, but not an overall drop. Hopefully, I'll get a copy of the game until the weekend. Reading about the game makes me insanely impatient.

yep turning in pirate captains to the navy drops your rep like a stone. maybe because your are trying to work for the pirate legend morgan, but then again his pirate buddies should not be chasing me all over the ocean 5 packs at a time if they do not want me sinking them or taking them prisoner. but if there is anything else to do with em other than throw them overboard i dunno what it is.

also throwing captured crew overboard is a heavy rep hit, but you can take them as slaves transfer them to the other ship as cargo and sink the ship volia no rep hit. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />o)

You're thinking of wolverines. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> I know what it is. They're not really eating the weapons, they're stashing them away in preparation for The Great Rat Revolution, when they will overthrow humanity and rule the world.

Yep. Playing as Blood you get a quest early on to retreive some money from a debtor, who instead of paying back the loan intends to buy a ship with the money. Which is an odd rationale in and of itself, that's why you borrow money, to buy stuff you can't afford with your own. But anyway, you can make him give you what he owes (30k, IIRC) and return it to the moneylender for a modest reward, or you can trick him into giving you <i>all</i> his money, almost twice that (55k), and then you keep the extra. But doing so gives you a rather nasty rep hit. Or you can keep all of it, which presumably lowers your rep even further since now you're conning the moneylender as well, although I haven't tried that.

Nah, that rationale does not hold up, I was receiving the rep hit before I even began the Morgan quest at all.
Also, you can talk to the captives and release them, for all the good it does you (ie zilch).

I have another question,
why is it that after you get an class 4 of better ship, your "special" stats go down? (a red negative number in brackets in front of a "special" stat.
Like if you have an class 1 ship, all "special" stat go down to 1.
If you buy (or capture) a class 5 and up ship, they return to normal.

As far as I have seen, it doesnt matter even with all crew positions filled, or your lvl.
(tried setting the lvl to 80, but stats still down with higher class ship)

Is it a bug? Or is there a way to 'fix' this?

EDIT:-sorry for posting here I just noticed a similar question in the bug topic.

It's due to lack of sailing skill, or at least so the description of sailing skill says. Well, something to that effect anyway. I had trouble making heads or tails of it to tell the truth.

damn i tried to use a class 5 caravel to take out that pirate in the quest for henry morgan. but he did not show up.. so i cant use youst any kind of class 6 or 5 ship? i need to use a lugger or a sloop? they got no room for any crewmembers... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dp_nogd.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ng" border="0" alt="dp_nogd.gif" />

well i tried to take him with another level 5 class ship. but he did not show up. so i guess i can only use lv 6 class ships or something. how can i get the blow up ally ship with a cheat or something? i cant find a officer with this skill.. but can i make a caravel a class 6 ship? so then i can use that ship and maybe have a chance of winning. but how do i do that? i know some of you have modified some stuff in your game so a little help would be nice <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blah:" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

I found it (rightmouse on your navigation skill) <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Yes, I got that, but then it says something about deducting the difference between current and required skill level from the ship class, which makes no sense to me whatsoever.

Say ye has ye a Nav skill o' 80, matey! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />
Ye den captures ye a Class 1 ship, righto? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":huh" border="0" alt="huh.gif" />
Yer effective Nav skill den be 80 - [95 - 80] = 65 fer dat partic'lar ship! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />
Kapeeesh?! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Oh, thanks. Uh, I mean... arrr, thank ye, matey! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> That ship class thing had me confused.
Anyway, any ideas on how to quickly grind navigation skill? I really want to be able to use that corvette that I have sitting in Port au Prince harbor. I know you can use storms but it's kind of a drag having to haul my butt back to a town for repairs afterwards, plus chasing rainclouds isn't very fun.

Can anyone tell me how do you equip your officers? In AOP: Carribean Tales the inventory was used by everybody. In City of Abandoned ships, seems that this is not the case anymore. So how can I give better weapons and armors to the officers that I employ?

Assign officer as fighter when you visit your quarters on the ship
Face the officer
Type Enter
Choose trade Icon on top left of the screen
Transfer items between you and the officer
<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
or
Assign officer as fighter when you visit a city
Visit the street vendor
Shift from main char to officer in the TRADE interface by clicking on the officer.
Buy items for that particular officer

Enjoy!

You don't need to reassign officers. Go to sailing mode, open the command menu, and go to your cabin. From there to the cannon deck and from there to the wardroom. You can trade with any of your officers there.

Wow, that's so complicated. Why the hell didn't they kept the common inventory as it was in AOP: Carribean Tales, it's beyond my comprehension. Thanks, guys. I was that close to start bashing my head towards the wall because I couldn't figure how to equip the officers.
