Just to give my two cents, I don't see this as a flaw. It's just extremely realistic. So I like it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />. Only thing, they should mention this in the manual or so, that you know what to expect.

well if you are a privateer, a sanctioned pirate to "legally" raid enemy shipping even in peace times. while i would not be able to become an admiral in their navy i see no reason why i should not be allowed to capture towns and stuff for britian if i got my own private army and we never touch british assets or their allies. and since as corsair you start with brit and pirate flags i assumed that was what he was. now if i was sinking brit ships that would be another thing entirely to deny me but all the loot and ships i sank pirate, spain, and dutch they ought to be thanking me! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" />

Remember though, Henry Morgan was only nominally a British governor. Even after he obtained his governorship, he frequently did things that didn't exactly make himself popular with other countries, let alone the crown, which is who had to smooth over things with england's neighbors. The only thing that kept him in the crown's good graces was the simple fact that he constantly was feeding booty into the crown's coffers, and its kind of tough to argue with a gent who is putting hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of gold and jewels into your hands.

He was still considered a pirate. A gentleman pirate perhaps, but a pirate none the less.

Yeah, exactly. I don't mind that the game does that, what I mind is that it doesn't <i>tell</i> me it did that until much later. I've wasted months of game time. If it had I'd have just reloaded the game and avoided talking to the damn pirate, but noooo, the character just swoons over how great it is to be working for pirates and somehow neglects to mention that he just got locked out of half the game. And not only are you given no prior warning or afterwards notification, you are even told that the way people act towards you is determined by the reputation gauge. Well I'm an honest captain, so what exactly is the governor's problem again? I'm okay with NPCs lying to my character in the game, I do object to the interface lying to me.

Hey guys,

Just thought I would let you guys know, someone uploaded a gameplay video of COAS on youtube. Thought some of you who don't have the game might want to check it out.

Here is the link:

how do i make amands with the nations? when i leave bridgetown i have 25 grand on my head and i cant change the flag.... so im enemies with spain,dutch and england so i have only france and pirates to go to can i make amands in a france town or do i have to make my way to a pirate town? im playing as doctor blood

Zier, find a church, pay the goddamn priest and he'll smooth the relations, depending on how much you pay him. If you have a nasty relation with a nation, prepare a hefty sum, though. Not sure how you smooth the relations with the pirates, but I think it's linked to you doing piracy acts against the four nations.
And, yay. A friend of mine who lives in Holland sent me the game, with some friendly curses, because he had a hard time to get it.

thx <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> i havent tried that yet but uhm the priest does it matter if it is in a french colony or english to improve relations with ex: spain or should i be in a spain church? (i can check this out later)

Doesn't seem so. Seems that you can improve relations with any nation, no matter the church's nationality. Kinda of reminds me of Sid Meier's Pirates, which had the same system of improving reputation.

uhm i have another question in Tortuga how do i find the spy there? i cant seem to get info from the tavern... i just dont know what to do.... (still blood)

and how do i change flag? i still have the english flag on my ship..... and i cant seem to change it

You need the perks for changing the flag. As for the spy, prepare for many long conversations with the people in town. Question every single one and accuse them, until one will reval himself, because he won't have anyone in town to vouch for him that he actually lives there. Even the guards aren't above suspicion so, just bug them until they blow their cover. Also check every single house. Sometime those little rascals are in one of the many houses from the town.

it's the thng i cant accuse any one... i took out a gang of bandits before those but they were in the jungle and well its starting to piss me off and i soon will go back to were i stole the sip in bridgetown cause i dont wanna have any failed missions

Talk to somebody on the street. If there is no dialog option for the quest, that means the spy is in one of the houses. Or so I've been told, I haven't had a spy in the streets yet myself.

Had that quest in Guadeloupe and the spy was outside. But that quest is random. So if you don't have anything, try talking with the bartender in the Tavern (that little bastard will charge you with 1k piasters for any info, so I "love"him so much...). If that doesn't work, start visiting every single house in the city. As I've said the quest it's so random, as most of the generic quests are, that it will test your patience heavily.

Nah-uh, the tavern keeper is useless for this quest. That was the first thing that I did when I got the quest for the first time, ask the barkeep. Sadly doesn't work.
And yeah, 1k is a wee bit overpriced for a piece of gossip. Especially considering that you can get the same for mere 2 piasters from the drunks sitting just a few paces away or from the merchant for no money at all.

ya once in a great while the barkeeps will tell you about treasure fleets etc, usually it is just garbage you can get from the drunks.

the find a spy quest is cake, like others have said usually takes me all of a few minutes to finish it, talk to person outside see if you get the option to accuse them, if not check buildings done.

Yep. I got stumped on it the first time because I expected it to involve something more elaborate than simply looking everywhere. You know, some intrigue, gathering clues, figuring out who the spy is... you know, cloak and dagger stuff that spies do. Instead I'm required to talk to everybody until I hit upon the correct guy and then he'll reveal himself to me. Hm. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="<_<" border="0" alt="dry.gif" />

btw if you screwd up your game as a result of talking to morgan, i have a simple fix so you still do the national missions for your country.

find the file: common_governor.c file make a backup.

open the file find the lines

case "onlyGenWork_2":
dialog.text = DLG_TEXT_BASE[53] + NationNameGenitive(sti(npchar.nation)) + ".";
link.l1 = DLG_TEXT_BASE[54];
link.l1.go = "exit";

change the "exit" line to

link.l1.go = "work_1";

he will then give you a mission, minus the approprite dialogue lines, feel free to fix that on your own, :p dunno if it is full fix, but it is a start i just dug it out of the files, i will have to play some to see if it really works, but he did give a mission.

beyond that there are other "work" scripts in the file might take further editing to get the full national line functionality sorted out.
