Questions and Notes TO CoAS Players

Well that would've been useful before I deleted the saves. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> And somebody on Playlogic forums claims that you get a chance to do national missions just before the end of the pirate quest line, so I guess the fix isn't really needed.

What's the consensus among the community leaders about CoAS? I have a little money to spare right now and I was thinking about getting it this week, but I don't want to invest in a game that won't catch on with the community (AOP) and then end up collecting dust some where on a shelf a few months from now. :hmm

I use to play Port Royal 2 alot and when i picked up a copy of dogs of war 2 (POTC) i was shocked at the differences since in Part Royal 2 you sailed in world view all the time and in battle view it was still world view almost so it was just a game, addictive never the less. I played POTC a little but wasn't as hooked as i was to Port Royal 2, then i instaled Build 13 full and that was it i was hooked, Port Royal was uninstalled and POTC became tyhe only game i played.

When i got hold of COAS i wasn't sure if i liked it because all the addons this comunity had made for POTC spoilt me into wanting to play POTC more, and the fact that COAS was harder made me play POTC more than COAS, then the smuggler mod came out for COAS which made it easier and from that day on i have never looked back, i don't have the smuggler mod in any more because it made the game to easy for me but i have installed a few mods which have made this game feel so much better.

I would say its a game you will love, if not straight away it will grow on you but either way this game will take off in this comunity, already mods are been made, it seems in some way's like build 14 has been put on hold due to the amount of mods released for this game but that isn't the case its just easy mods that was transfered over to this game while the team continue to work on POTC, i think to be honest this game offers more than POTC, perhaps not right now but once we start seeing more mods been made COAS should easily become the next best pirate RPG available with POTC remaining a close 2nd, some things like sailing from island to island in 3D mode can't be done yet, but just like POTC you can't capture islands without installing build 14 alpha while in COAS you can capture cities after complting a questline, so my overall oppinion of COAS is its better than POTC and has a lot of potential to be even better, i say buy the game you won't regret it.

Build 14 put on hold? Whenever did that happen? :rofl

Myself, I have finally been able to get CoAS, but have hardly played it yet at all.
From what I gather, it's definitly a better game than AoP or PotC were originally.
And it seems to offer a very good base for continuing modding efforts.

Whether it's better than PotC: New Horizons (aka Build 14) is questionable though.
Build 14 really IS impressive and should be considered it's own game.
CoAS might have better graphics (PotC IS a game from 2003, after all)
and has a whole bunch of features that Build 14 doesn't, but then the same applies in reverse.

Build 14 offers a lot of features that CoAS doesn't have and there's some graphical stuff
in Build 14 that is better than what you might find in CoAS.
For example, I think that the character, town and ship models (especially the Build ones)
in PotC are far superior to the weird (anime?) style characters of CoAS and the all-the-same CoAS town models.
And neither does CoAS offer so many different storylines in different time settings.
Not to mention the Different Flags mod. :cheeky

But we might eventually port the finished Build 14 over to CoAS,
making the final result the best pirate game ever.
In the meantime, however, we cna use all the help we can get to finish Build 14.
After all, if you want us to port to CoAS as soon as possible,
we need to get it finished as soon as possible. ;)

Build 14 put on hold? Whenever did that happen? :rofl

Now now, Pieter i didn't say Build 14 was on hold i said it may seem like its been put on hold due to the amount of mods released for COAS, however i must say when i installed Build 14 alpha just before i had to reformate my hard drive, i was very impressed, Build 13 offered a lot of improvements like the3 cannon smoke which i found very unrealistic in POTC vanilla, and the same applies to COAS because the smoke effects after firing the cannons is well crap. If i was to name a few things that would improve COAS to be more realistic it would be the following.

1. Distance marker for cannons to change when ship moves from side to side, i found that very interesting in POTC and it offered a more strategic ellement to the game.

2. Cannon smoke to last longer and to have more smoke released after the cannons are fired, POTC vanilla is like COAS in that case where the smoke is so unrealistic its shocking, after all you would expect that part to be more realistic, in real life it would have been hard for the captains to see other ships in large scale battles due to the smoke so it would be nice to see that improved.

3. Sailing to and from islands in 3D sailing mode, wasn't in POTC vanilla and isn't in COAS which is annoying, this feature is one i miss since its quicker to sail to other islands in 3D mode now than it was in POTC.

I'm sure there are more but thats a quick summery of what will improve the look and feel of COAS.

But... but... it doesn't seem like it's put on hold at all because clearly it isn't,
considering there's still many people actively working on it,
with new versions being released very regularly.

The people working on the Build mod aren't working on CoAS in the first place.
And I haven't actually seen much people releasing impressive stuff for CoAS.
The clear exception is Jonathan Aldridge, but other than him,
it seems to me that if anything has been put on hold, it's actually CoAS modding. :shock

The only things other than Jonathon's work is Russian stuff :shock

Or Build Mod stuff being converted to CoAS :yes

Build 14 is great, no doubt about that :onya . The only problem is nobody really made new locations for Build 14. I always hoped someone could make a fortress like the one in Santiago of Cuba.(see video)

Well, it CAN be done. For PotC as well as AoP and CoAS. We just need the people to do it. :facepalm
Indeed such a fort location would be nice. :yes

A few months ago, I sent a PM to Captain Caceres but he was too busy... Maybe Damski62 (when he comes back from England) or SuperDurnius (seeing he started working on Maya) could do something like that

Well, I got my copy :will I got lucky too, the store I went to on Monday had five + copies of the game. I go there Thursday and they only had one left, and it wasn't even in the location where it was supposed to be. I had to look around for it.

I'm currently installing it, though I've read in another thread I have to then uninstall it, remove SF then install it again to make it moddable :facepalm

I guess it will be a while before I can actually play.

The western release of CoAS doesn't HAVE Starforce. :no

Awesome, now to look around for some mods in the FTP :onya

Update: Oh it's going to take me days to custimize the game to my liking, first step is doing something about the small selection of music, then off find a way to mix up some of those voices! The French govenor sounds more English than he does French xD:

Fortuntely I have my old mods saved so its just a matter of time and comparing files so I can port stuff over.
