Re-worked Privateer

I believe the one on the right would be more correct as part of the idea behind the spanker is to force more wind into the sails in front of it.

But then I could be totally off on that.

Cap'n Drow

As far as I'm aware, it's the left one that's right.
All the sails should be on the side where the wind is not coming from (eg. lee side), unless I'm very much mistake. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

I'll bump this to the next page.
I believe the one on the left is correct but would still like to here from others.

Hello Petros <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
You are right, the left one is correct, I used to own a sailing boat, and sailed in some scandicup races (but not with my own boat). <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" />

Hello Pieter Long time, no see! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" /> I have played "Silent hunter3 and 4."
also made some mods for them. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> I really like "Silent hunter" weather and sea. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" />

Well, be assured that you're welcome here again. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
Of course the sea looks as it always did, but the weather's improving.
Not the actual graphics, but the system's certainly better. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

I vote for the left one as well. Part of the function of the spanker was to offset the forces applied by the head sails. With the rig balanced you need little rudder input to stay on course. Every little bit of rudder input needed to correct the ships course reduces the ships speed.

Great job. The angle of the fore & sails in POTC alway seemed odd. But as me mother always said don't complain about the choir if you not willing to help. Sorry I will go back to being a lurker.

Greg.

Sorry to take so long getting back on this. Three days without internet - the cost of country living.

Hi Hawk, welcome back.

OK folks, the reason why I brought this up.
All the stock Brigs, Corvettes, and ships with the spanker have the sail in the wrong position as apparently hard coded in the game.

I had completely forgotten that some years ago, it was discovered that we could correct for this, by changing the XX value of the spanker's locator number on the Mizzen mast from zero to -1.

On several ships added through modding, this was done.

However, this change also causes the Gaff-Boom model attached to said locator to have inside-out textures.

That means, the gaff-boom models I've had ZarethPL work on, were normal all along.
It's is that they become abnormal when the mast they are on has the "XX zero to -1" modification.

I'll follow -up on some suggestions/requests later, after I get caught up on all my e-mail, etc.

All the game's brigs had the booms on the wrong side and fixing it flips the reys inside out? Now THAT's what you call WACKY! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

Yes.
The solution is to make a distorted, inside out rey.gm that would be normal in game on a "XX zero to -1" locator.

This is what was done for the Gaff/boom of the "Amsterdam" model.

Of the two models Zareth made, the first one I thought was no good actually works with these ships.

It is the one that shows up inside out in GM.viewer.
The texture is on the outside in game but it has that lighting bug problem.

If he could just fix the lighting on that model, then it could be used on all the Brigs, the Sloop-of-War, the Pirate Corvette, Light Frigate2, and any other ship with this problem.

Could it be that the inside-out rey has the lighting bug because it is inside out, while the model is actually correct?
Then to make it appear normal in the game, you'd have to CAUSE the old lighting bug again. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

She started with 24 ropes and several errors. I added 50 more for a total 74 ropes and no error messages.

The Privateer2 will be stronger (more iron, less glass) but only slightly slower than the Privateer.

I'm not sure if I want to do anything else with her but I plan to hold her back and add her as a quest ship in the "Bermudez Quest"

Beautiful! I hope you will release the improved brigs soon though; I'd like to have them included in Build 14 Alpha 9 if possible. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Not without a proper Gaff-Boom!

For the Privateer, I modified the one from the Amsterdam.

It however is shorter lengthwise and won't look right on the Brigs.

The inside-out version in the GM Viewer appears correct in the game, right? But is still subject to the reverse lighting bug, despite being properly exported from Maya, right? What if you take that GM file, export it to VRML with the TOOL, then import again and re-convert to GM. I am thinking that the GM file actually DOESN'T have the reverse lighting bug, but it appears wrong in the game, because it's being turned inside-out. If so, deliberately causing the reverse lighting bug might actually make it appear right in the game again. Sounds crazy. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

Of course. But the rey that ZarethPL originally fixed was actually bug-less, right? Until it got turned inside-out to fix the sail in the game. Then there was the already inside-out version (also bugless) that you used instead, so that it'd appear right-side out in the game. This worked as far as I understood from you, but it does appear to have the reversed lighting bug. However, the model doesn't actually have the bug and it is caused merely by being turned inside-out. So I was thinking if you'd take the bugless inside-out model and deliberately caused the reverse lighting bug again, it might actually appear right in the game.

This is a ships wheel that someone posted once, but it never worked in game.
It would not show texture or else just crash the game.

Using Tool, I have gotten it to where it works but has the reversed lighting bug.

Can someone correct this for us?
