Well, there is apparently an addon for CoAS that has just been completed by a mod group known as BlackMark that adds some fairly interesting things to CoAS.

Below you will find links to the original Russian version of the page as well as the English translation. Now by english translation, I mean to web page is translated, NOT the mod. So far as I can tell, the mod was done by a sub-group of Seaward and leaves the copy protection and locked programs directory in place, just adds lots of new features to the game.

Interesting... Good stuff mate! Now if we could just get the damn game!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

Those Russians are REALLY enthusiastic in modding those games! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

I just wish they felt the same about releasing them! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

I already got it, it has some really interesting skins <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

It's really good patch (I help tested it). The gameplay with that patch excellent. You are really necessary to translate it.

It not only has new skins, Thomas. But adds the ability to carry both a pistol and a musket. It adds lots of updated models, quests and more.

So this modification is something I would dearly love to see opened up so we can use it here in the west.

Agreed. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Very few Russians are active in here. One guy offered to translate something for us once, but he disappeared. Its like them Russians dont learn english at all in school... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

The big problem is that the Russian version of CoAS uses Star Force for copy protection and with that protection the Russian program folder is locked. All the Russian mods that are being built for the locked program folder version of the game. So we don't have access to some of the most important portions of the updated mods.

The only thing we might possibly be able to do would be to play through the Russian mods and try to get an idea of what was added and changed.

And even that that would be a poorly done job unless we get copies of the mods with unlocked program folders and assistance from the mod groups that made the individual mods.

I think that once we get onto porting to CoAS, we should try to contact as many Russian modding teams as we can.
Maybe we can try to convince at least some of them that putting everything together is going to be much better than having many seperate good mods.

I offer my assistance with any russian convincing <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" />

Me too! I don't speak russian but I have some really good puppy eyes available.

That would be awesome guys, thanks for the offers.

Sadly I'm not sure if any of the mod groups will go in for convincing or not, since they all have to apparently sign an NDA to get copies of the program directory and any associated additional tools.

I'd really love for us to try to communicate with the mod groups and Akella/Seaward to see if we can get permission to get copies of the various mods with unlocked program directories.

We may need to try going directly to Akella to get the permission, since according to Seaward it is Akella that is saying the files can't be released.

By the way Johnny, are you actually in Utah? And if so, where do you live? I lived in SLC for most of my life, just down the road from Liberty Park if you know where that is. **Grins**

Sorry man, No. I'm in Nashville, TN. "Johnny Utah" is the name of the goofy character Keanu Reeves played in <u>Point Break</u>. The movie is so so cheesy.

johnnyutah - Tis alright, I did know it was a character name from a movie as well, but for the life of me could not remember what movie.

Well eventually, I'm hoping to see some additional communication channels opened up with the various developers of each of the mods that we know of thus far. Among those are Secrets of Far Seas by BG Team, the 1.2.3 Hard Core Edition by Black Mark Studios, Pirates of the Mediterranean by Seagames Team and Damned Destiny by Seven Winds. These are the main large mods that I know of thus far.

If anyone knows of any other major mods out, kindly let me know and I will add them to this list.

There are also MANY small one off mods of new ships, updated skins, updated character models and updated equipment.

Cap'n Drow

Hey Cap,

Are all those mods available only in Russian right now or are they available in English too that you know of? I know the HE mod that was released is only in Russian. I haven't looked yet, but are those smaller mods with skins and ships and stuff available on this site or are they scattered everywhere?

There only Storm-engine based English mod is the PotC Build Mod. Not a single other one is available in English.
And I wholly support Cap'n_Drow's wish of more communication with the various Russian mod teams.
I just don't see the point of making many good mods instead of one great one. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Every major mod available for PotC, AoP or AoP2 besides Build Mod for PotC or Supermod for AoP are RUSSIAN ONLY. There is only one of the Russian Language mods that is even being translated at this time, which is Secrets of far Seas for AoP.

EVERYTHING for AoP 2 is pretty much Russian language only unless its something that has shown up here already in english.

The main thing that will keep things like this right now is the simple fact that in AoP 2 in the west, the program directory is unlocked and editable by ANYONE, whereas in the Russian version of the game the program directory is LOCKED and ONLY editable by approved mod teams.

I'm hoping to see the program directory unlocked on the Russian version of the game, allowing ANYONE to mod the game, Western or Russian, Period. If nothing else I'd like to obtain permission from Akella to get unlocked versions of the Program directories from each of the major mods out there.
