[REL] CoAS Hardcore Edition 1.2.3

Don't give up; I'm certain it should be possible. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

Searched the whole INI folder and couldn't find any file responsible for regular officers. Other captains can be changed or just added by editing HeroDescribe.txt as Nathaniel 'Gallows' Cordel said before. But editing those regular officers is harder than I thought <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

For instance, Cecil Forrester is in HeroDescribe and every game I play I find him at just about every tavern, so he'd be a good choice if you want to turn him into a woman and don't mind her as a fellow captain (unless her ship sinks).

For 'regular' officer npcs I'm not sure where they are stored but I haven't found any file so far with them in it, nor have I found any file that determines the npc's starting skills. This is frustrating since I wanted to define Cordell's starting abilities rather than just have his PIRATES stats set based on a class.

Also, I decided to try parts of the CoAS mod so what I did was put it in the Generic Mod Enabler MODS folder in a folder called Russian CoAS and then renamed the folders modules and INI so all the texture and model changes show up but nothing else. I actually tried running it with the modules folder but it broke the start.exe (I'm guessing I have to use the one packaged with it but I'm a bit hesitant). It's very easy to do and you don't have to delete anything in case we get a decent translation of it.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I found that playing with cheats enabled, you can hit the F10 key and it will pull up a list of all of the 'top' officers from HeroDescribe and tell you their current locations. What I also found was that none of the girls were on that list.

I either need to find a way to get them on that list so I can find them ingame, or find a way to just have them automatically given at the start of a new game. If I can't do that, then my dream of an all female fighting squad will never come true.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I figured it out.

Turns out that "sex_X {man}" or "sex_X {woman}" has nothing to do with the gender. If you put "man" they will be on the F10 list of independent captains and if you put "woman" they will not. I guess Russians are gender biased about who can be a captain. As far as I can tell putting "man" for a female character still gives her female animations and voice. I suppose if I try to have make believe sex with them in my cabin then I could be in for a Crying Game moment.

But the good news is I was easily able to start a new game with the women as "sex_X {man}", warp to their locations and recruit them into my crew. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

But still, it will only change top officers - ship captains I mean. Or does it also affect 'normal' officers'?

From what I've seen is that there is code to select the normal officers randomly from the files officer_1 - 13 (or in the area). It may need someone to add code for each normal officer. I've just replaced the gm files with other models. Just make sure to make notes if you do that and make backups.

Regarding the HE Mod this is what I have had succses with! Theas are the files that work.

My files are on the FTP site under the "Craiggo" folder!

Blessings and fair weather!

I was testing all RESOURCE files from CoAS_1.2.3_HE and everything worked out to make no problems: a lot of appearances will be changed.

To change apperance of Peter Blood I renamed Resource/Models/characters Blad_0.gm - Blad_4.gm to Blood5.gm - Blood5_Cirass3.gm.

(Be sure to save original files before copying and renaming).

Seems like a good idea. Don't know why I haven't thaught about doing it this way. Gonna rename those YokoDias and other files to officer_10 etc. and copy them to game folder. Sounds good and should work imo.

EDIT
Forgot about something - what about portraits? We need to change something here or we will have a female pirate with a male portrait in our interface.

I wouldn't recommend doing it that way. Generic officers are generic because you can get multiples of them as they randomly spawn in every bar. If you put Yoko in the generic list, then you could potentially walk into a bar and see 3 of her.

If you add her in the HeroDescribe, then she is a unique independant captain. I got her as an officer at the start by enabling cheats so the F10 menu would be active, using F10 to see what town she was in, teleporting to that town and recruiting her. It's very easy to get them to join at the beginning of a game because they have no money and no ship yet. If you try to recruit them later in the game they have much more of an attitute and make you work for it.

Independant captains are much cooler, because they move about the game, gaining levels, buying ships, taking quests. The F10 list actually calls them 'competitors'. This was very apparent when I saw John Easterling in Port Royale having a drink at the bar. I then went to talk to the governor who said, "I'm sorry, I have no quest for you today, John Easterling just completed a quest for me." I then went back to the bar to hire more crew and the bartender says, "Sorry, John Easterling just recruited all the sailors for a mission. Nobody is left."

IMO, keeping them unique adds a lot of flavor to the game. I currently have 20 uniques in the HeroDescribe and it makes the game seem much more alive and dynamic.

Good idea Croaker. Gonna add few more to HeroDescribe and see how it works for me <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Btw is there an app which is used to view various face files in portraits directory? Need to add faces to those new captains.

Also will I need to restart the game to make those new captn's appear?

You need GM viewer to see the models. <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?autocom=downloads&showfile=21" target="_blank">http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?au...amp;showfile=21</a>

You need TX converter to see the portraits. <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?autocom=downloads&showfile=22" target="_blank">http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?au...amp;showfile=22</a>

** The TX files need to be loaded on the right side of the interface.

Bless Ya! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />

Yeah save the best models for the unique captains. I just changed some of the random officers so they were not so bleh.
You can change the faces in Program\Characters\characters_face.c (requires a new game for the update unless you overwrite files).

Thank it seems I have gotten it sorted out. But one more weird thing is happened. I don't see any animations such as sitting down to play cards or drink at the tavern, when I go upstairs to meet the barmaid and get into a fight the guy just stands there and then I cant go put the door and my guys don't follow me sometimes. Weird stuff like that. Can anyone help?

Well people i am having some problems. When ever i change any file data or overwrite any file i have a error message. I am attaching the image. Even if i use any kind of mods or patches. I can not use the russian mod Coas hardcore. I found a website that translates mods. I translated it and tried to play but its does not work. It did not work even when it was not translated. I mean no kind of mods(translated or russian) is working on my computer. the musket thing, i changed and the game ran but i could not equip it. Now how do i play it with so many problems. If there is anyone please help.

What should i do to enable the Coas hardcore mod. Should i copy all files to the root menu.

With regards

The mod is not compatable. You can manually import textures and models, but so far thats about it.

You may still have problems with the russian mod just with the textures and models. I get intermittent crashes when I open chests/bodies when I have it enabled, telling me that there could be one or more item textures that don't work right.

That is odd, I never had any of those. In fact, my game runes better then it did before i applied the new files. It might be a hardware problem?
