Sherlock Holmes

If you like adventure games at all.... this series is really great.

Started with the Secret of the Silver Earring and just finished The Awakened.

Great sleuthing, puzzles and deductive reasoning.

Good to great graphics. Very good interface. First person adventure.

Very absorbing, havent played any VG's that I was this lost in since Oblivion.

I remember playing a Sherlock Holmes CD game on the old Panasonic system 3DO. I never finished it but it was very interesting. You traveled around old London looking for clues to a murder and reading the Times of London and other publications and also questioning people in the city. There was also a kid who ran out and did errands for you.

I just bought Sherlock Holmes versus Arsene Lupin.

Arsene Lupin is considered the worlds greatest thief. The story sounds very interesting and brutally difficult to solve.

After playing The Awakened, I'm ready for anything. This game goes all out with the sleuthing...giving only minor clues to what to investigate in game. I is all up to you and your deductive reasoning powers and your ability to recognized clues to the case. The game runs the full gamut of what a detective's life must have been like in the late 19th century, with only limited technology at you disposal.

If Holmes wasn't this creative in his case solving, at least the game producers were. Truely a fantastic adventure in puzzles, clue finding and logic.

yeah I saw this advertised on Steam and was wondering about it.

Might take a better look at it

I've got about 30 hours into Sherlock Holmes versus Arsene Lupin, and I'm guessing about 2/3rds done with the case.

The game is as advertized, nearly impossible without total absorption. Get out your notepad, you'll need it.

Put the headphones on and enjoy the music (if you like classical violin) the story will sweep you away to 1895 England.

I've got him pinned down in the Tower of London ATM.....

I have to try this game, it sounds very involving. I love those mysteries that have many twists and turns.

Found a <a href="http://pc.ign.com/articles/819/819820p1.html" target="_blank">review.</a>

You can buy The Awakened for under $10.00 USD on Amazon. It will be the best 10 bucks you ever invested.

I just finished Sherlock Holmes vs Arsene Lupin, and must say this adventure went above and beyond any other game I have ever played.

The Awakened will set you up properly to solve this latest installment, but you will still have many moments of racking your brain and endlessly studying your notes just to make and educated guess or advance slightly in the game.

Frustration is not a good description, because you will not be totally frustrated. In my case the set backs caused not only frustration but a determination to carry on an reconsider my every move throughout the game. I WAS going to solve the case.

The game for me, succeeded in gaining my total attention and resolve to complete it.

In the end some may be disappointed, some will feel relief...as it turns out, Arsene Lupin is Holmes greatest challange.

Well, I love to get lost in games like that so I will be buying it. I'll get The Awakened first like you suggest. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbs1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":2up" border="0" alt="thumbs1.gif" />

what's the system requirements? i really like games like that, but i usually just can't run them.

From the Frogwares website:

MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS :

OS: Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/Vista

Processor: Pentium® III 1.3 GHz or higher

Memory: 512 MB RAM

Graphics card: 64 MB DirectX 9 compatible

Sound card: DirectX 9 compatible

DVD-ROM: DVD 4x speed (Not required if you download the game)

Hard disk space: 3 GB

My rig could handle that. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

hahaha. i don't even have a single requirement matched. wait! i've got windows. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

<!--quoteo(post=237187:date=Feb 9 2008, 10:40 AM:name=Morgan Terror)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Morgan Terror @ Feb 9 2008, 10:40 AM) <a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=237187"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->hahaha. i don't even have a single requirement matched. wait! i've got windows. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /><!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Well Morgan if that's the case, I'de say it was time for an upgrade <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I know that not everyone can afford a new PC, but those sys. rec's. are met by PC's that are like 4 years old. Yours must be ancient. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" />

What is your configuration?

mine's some old computer from the school where my father works. before that it was an office computer, i think. some guy put a Geforce 2 in it along the way. here's the current specs of the wreck:

windows XP

i have no idea of the pentium version. i think it's III, but i wouldn't be surprised if it's II. 604 Mhz.

364MB RAM, but for some reason it says 128MB. must be something wrong somewhere.

graphics card: as i already said, a NVidia Geforce 2, 32MB. the only reasonably decent piece of kit on the thing, apart from the keyboard, which i think i have proven to be of excellent quality by now. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

soundcard is definately directX 9 compatible, as i have 9.1. it seems to be pretty small though, as it can't handle some things.

50x CD-rom drive.

pretty small screen. 1024xsomething is the max it can handle.

it's so miserable i just can't stop laughing at it.

Only thing what me computer needs is a new videocard with about 200-500 mb VRam and this memory 256 mb Ram thingy replaced with a 500 mb Ram thingy.
But only problem is that i have a Thinkpad and its "impossible" to change videocard ..only thing what i can change is this Ram thingy.

My computer currently has a 32 mb Vram Ati Radeon 9000 (thanks to about 700 Ram memory thingy it can handle some 64 mb VRam games).

Morgan, try this:

From the run command on the start menu, type: msinfo32.exe & enter

This will tell you everything you need to know about you pc.

all i know is that's it's crap. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> a game either works a bit, or definately doesn't, and this one is one of the latter. i've heard something about me getting a little bit more speed for my wreck though.

Well you may want to look at an earlier episode, The Secret of the Silver Earring. Not quite as good an interface (no walking around by yourself) but a good game none the less.

Here are the requirements:

Processor: Pentium® III 600 MHz, AMD Athlon™
RAM: 256 MB
Video Card: 32 MB DirectX® 8.1 or higher compliant
Sound Card: DirectX 8.1 compliant
Direct X: DirectX 8.1 or higher (included on disc)
CD-ROM Drive: 8x CD-ROM (24x recommended)
Hard Drive Space: 1500 MB free

You can download the 350 Mb Demo <a href="http://www.ubi.com/US/Games/Download.aspx?pId=1299&dcId=61" target="_blank">Here</a>
