How do I get to use better ships without penalties? I'm Level 8 I can't figure out if I can use the better ships though? Do I need to do governor missions to raise my rank?

If not where does it show me what rank ships I can use?

The ranks you get from governors have no relevance to which ships you can command, except in that completing the governor's missions gets you experience points which eventually increases your level. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

If you're good enough at fighting, don't risk wasting your money buying a ship which you can't command. You're a pirate. Go and steal something big, and if you can't command it, sell it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=")" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

So at level 8, I'd expect you should be able to command a class 2 ship without a penalty, but you're not quite good enough to captain a battleship. Which is fine, as the class 1 ships are big and clumsy, and for general piracy you're probably better off with a corvette or frigate anyway!

Thanks yeah I started reading the manual a lot more carefully I have a frigate and 3 war galleons.
