Need Help ships

Ben Coats

Freebooter
ok since the beginning you only get to start out with a lugger ship. I'm already level 5, got over 100,000$ and I still cant find a bigger ship and the officers in the taverns are all swindlers, and no good, where are the others you can hire? I need a couple of officers, especially boarders. but every time I'm out @ sea, I get attacked by 3-6 ships of pirates or Spanish. where can I get a decent ship, cant do cargo runs for the harbor masters cuz ship is too small, so all I have to do is escorts and that is getting redundant and not really becoming fun anymore, its becoming quite a chore instead of enjoyable. lousy missions, just bout every gov asks you to do that single mission where you have to go to the town and get a package, just getting to the town is a problem cuz of pirates, too small a ship and crew....its almost endless of problems. any advice or tips?

What difficulty? Is chartering your ship for store keepers worth the money? It is in Aop2. I started out making about 3k a run, and moved up to 10k fairly quickly, and it kept rising from there.

Officers are random, so maybe save outside, and re-enter the tavern?

Sam will probably be more help here, as I'm waiting on a computer part.

difficulty is normal, Harbor masters wont give me any contracts @ all cuz my ship is too small wont hold the cargo, so mainly doing escorts to and from for 6-10K a piece. now all my stuff is in the negative side for what??? I got 125K now and still cant find any bigger ships to buy.

and I have these guys coming after me all the time----> the Bigger pirate ships, every where I go, getting hounded by them.

This is a very realistic made RPG and not an action game Ben. It is also very tricky, so you have to build it up slowly and wisely. You can´t rush into it and expect to survive Ben. That won´t ever work out.

1. It´s not clever to rush for a bigger ship too soon because Rang 5 means nothing in this game and if you choose to have a bigger ship so soon, you will suffer of negative skills, even with a navigator. Also the shipyards won´t offer you bigger ships with such a low Rang. But if you absolutely want a bigger ship so soon, you can always try to attack spanish or pirate ships and if you succeed, you can change your Lugger against their ship in your menu after the fight. But i won´t recommend this so soon. Anyway for this kind of gameplay that you wish, you will need a crew that´s good in boarding (soldiers) and a lot of officers. For example 3 Boarders, a Boatswain and a Canoneer. Before you enter, you should always use Grapeshot in your cannons to minimize the enemies crew to have the best chance to survive a fight with a bigger ship.

2. To find and get the officers that you want and need, i would recommend that you save your game in front of a tavern before you enter it because the officers are random generated. It can take ages to find the right ones and you also have to be VERY PATIENT for that. Don´t hire the ones that tell you that they are the best in this and that, only take the ones that tell you that they shall be good in this and that or they will disapoint you for shure after some time.

3. If you want to avoid attacks from enemies when you are leaving a harbor, place your ship in front of a fort, go into seamode, engage and let the fort sink them for you, as i told you already some time ago Ben. It´s the easiest way and saves a lot of money too. Out on the sea i would recommend you to save many times and reload to avoid rat attacks and escape from enemies. This save and reload system is logged in your statistics but won´t have any negative effect on your gameplay at all like you mentioned in another tread. Also the loss of health is logged there but hasn´t a negative effect either.

I can only always repeat myself, that it is not meaningful to rush this game in any way. If you want to enjoy it, you have to build it up slowly and with patients step by step. Or maybe this game is not for you Ben. I would recommend to follow the advices from your brother Michel, to join one of the 3 companies that are available after the introduction and the 3 month of waiting time (the Dutch West India Company is recommended for beginners), to build up your skills like it´s meant to be and to collect the 1.000.000 pesos to free your brother afterwards. After that you should be strong enough for the freeplay that you seem to prefer. I´m not absolutely shure at the moment because i didn´t play the whole game through yet, but i have the feeling that it is made much more linear then AoP2CoAS:

I really wish you good luck in everything Ben :onya

finally, I got a Boatswain and a Boarder, I'm up to rank 7 with 185K and took a sloop outside Martinique. (funny after all the ships I've boarded, captured and sunk the steam achievement still isn't unlocked) anyway, still having trouble with the 4-6 pirates/Spanish that keep coming after me, is there a way to thin them out? I've already fought "Gentlemen of Fortune" @ least 3x's and still he comes around when I don't need him showing up cuz I'm running some mission.

Maybe other nations have already set a bounty on you. You can see that in your nations menu of the game. This can happen if your gameplay is to aggressiv or unfair. In this case Fadey in Guadeloupe can help you out. The enemy ships you can always try to lure to French or English forts and let them do the job for you if your are unable for it. Good luck anyway Ben.

to buy or not to buy? I have now just over 208K $ is it worth the trouble to buy this ship with an upkeep of 129 men+ food, med, rum, weapons and such? I think I'll wait till I have 500K and then buy one....

finally captured a bigger ship to sail around, I was out roaming and came across 3 Spanish ships, I quickly boarded the fluyte and got to the capt "if you value your life run we've lit the powder magazine" REALLY? I need that ship, not have it blow up, I reloaded 6X's and still the same thing...........

whelp my navigator just quit on me........so all I have is a boarder.
barely find missions to make $ (escort or cargo shipping from the store/tavern)
pirate attacks are still 3-6 ships (galleons and heavies)
cant play cards/dice
gov missions still same (package to someone)
cant find any officers.

fist my Boatswain quit, then Navigator (the guy you get from jail) and now my boarding officer has quit on me and I cant find officers @ any tavern English, Dutch, French or Pirate to take on (in a way I save $ by not having them, but need a boarder to capture/sell ships). Amulet doesn't work cant activate it for some reason.....so I'm back almost to square one. my authority is green past the "Y" yet I cant keep anybody to help. all I can do is escort missions (1/2 the time you don't even get paid for) or cargo runs from the store. also I've looked thru all the files and its supposed to say:
"beginner, seasoned, normal, hard, hardest, impossible" but it starts you in the normal, there is no beginner or seasoned levels, even tho it says so in the files.
Rum is also a problem every where its expensive, for 15 days its costs over 7000$.

Ben, it's very simple. If you wanted to sail on big ships, you need develop the skill of "navigation". Click on the navigation to find which skill level are necessary for your ship. Due to the lack of navigation skill, your other skills is reduced. this means that you have reduced the skill of "Charisma" (which is why officers are leaving you) and "trade" (which is why Rum costs over 7000$). Find a small ship or good navigator:
Officers are random, so maybe save outside, and re-enter the tavern?
And if you want interesting quest - visit Fadey.

Sorry for bad english, I hope it will help.
