Hi!

I'm new at this. Just got the game around Christmas. Played it for a while and decided to go looking for mods and found this site. Installed build 13. It is very interesting. It was also very buggy for a while. Installing new video card drivers helped tremendously. Until tonight. I don't know how far into the game I am, but it was working ok until I got into a storm and got washed up on Duweeson(sp?). Got stuck there with a ship but no crew. Also that is where the real problem reared its ugly head. The game started running in slo mo. Very irritating. I finally got killed in town and woke up in QC. ????? How did that happen? I got a ship and crew there!!!!! But! When I left the dock I got into a 4 against 1 fight in slo mo. Finished the fight and returned for repairs. Slo mo. Then it kicked into normal speed until I sailed away again. Slo mo. Then another problem appeared. There is now no way to use the world map, and I can only sail to one place. QC. Is there a way to fix this?

I think that problem has been reported a long time ago and was fixed in the Build 14 WIP versions.
As far as I'm aware, the slow motion stops at some point as well.
What happens if you press the time compression [R] or [G] keys?

This is due to a game engine bug. Saving and restarting the game should help. By any chance are you using an ATI graphics card? Those new drivers are tremendously evil and the game does stall when too many textures are loaded.

The new compressed textures in build 14 (full install only) should help you in that regard.

It's a coding error. Somewhere. It always happens at that particular point in the story in Build 13.
It's not a framerate thing; it actually really IS slow motion. Some sort of time scale problem.
Build 14 has it fixed.

My graphics card is an ATI (ATI Mobility RADEON® HD 4670 - 1GB) and it runs all my games fine :shrug

The new intel cards that just came out about the same time as Windows 7 HATE old games, in that it doesnt even run them :shock

Hi.

Pressing the "R" key speeds it up to a little more than normal. I started using it a lot. "G" speeds things up quite a bit. I also use that a lot now.

I have been saving games everywhere. Sometimes saving and exiting, then restarting helps for a minute. Sometimes not. I'm using an Nvidia 275GTX. I have had issues with their newest drivers and on their advice recently fell back to the 186.18 with good results in all programs, new and old. That means 1998 to 2009 for me.

I tried build 14 and didn't like it. The buildsettings.h file is hidden and when I did find it, none of my changes had any effect. Not having a rules book is a big handicap also.

The BuildSettings can be changed ingame now through the Options>Advanced Options menu.
Should be more user-friendly than doing it through code.

Build 14 went Beta today and it comes with a Manual this time around. That should help. :cheeky

I continued with build 13. The slo mo stopped soon and the game worked without a glitch after that all the way to the end of the main quest. Every time I tried to use the thingy from the temple the game ctd'ed. So, I did it the old fashioned way and got 2 battleships and 2 manowars and shot the Black Pearl to splinters. It never did let me board it. The game continued working well, so I decided to go looking for those Dutch children. My rep was "horror of the seas" for a loong time so I never did any side quests. It went well until it came time to escort the Barque. Soon after leaving port the game ctd's. It doesn't matter if I use the world map or just hit "g". It ctd's either way. I'm stuck. Is this a known issue and is there a fix, or should I just delete the game?

The one Build 13 CTD I am aware of is the "midnight full cargo hold" one.
Did you install the fix for that one? If not, I recommend you do so.
You can run into this bug in all sorts of situations, including deliberately filling up your cargo hold
for trading purposes or after looting a bunch of enemy ships.

Yes I ran into that bug early on. This bug is new to me. I save often so that if something happens I can go back to before the problem and start over. This one doesn't seem to have a solution, because there is a movie you have to watch. The ctd happens right after that so there is no way to avoid it. I simply can not leave that island. I'm playing build 14 now which seems to be better so far.

Bizarre. Glad to hear Build 14 Beta 1 is working for you so far though. :yes
